I feel like you could clip some dangly charms or tie ribbons on those waist loops on that skirt!! It came out super cute!
This!
ooo I LOVE this idea!!
The bows/ribbons are also a cute idea for the leftover fabric of the sleeves!
I like to hang earrings from my belt loops as accessories and could so see that working here
For the sleeves: What I like doing with my scrap fabric is making either scrunchies or bows that I attach to hair clips. That way you have a cute hair accessory that matches your outfit 😁
YESS or a headband!!
Yes! I was going to suggest that too!
You could use the leftover sleeves to make a wider waistband if you want!
Yes!
Take of the zig zag band (I know it's hard after you finally figured it out) and make a tunnel using the sleeves. Then you can thread the elastic through this tunnel and voila.
That said - this transformation is awesome! The skirt looks so much better than the dress, even though I wouldn't have thought it beforehand.
Applauding your courage and very happy it paid off!
The braided belt could also be used for waistband fabric if needed!
This is what I came to comment! Agreed.
That or scrunchie or hair ribbon out of the extra fabric. Or perhaps a bow or rosette pin to pin up a part of the skirt if it works
The waist loops halfway down the skirt actually for some reason take it to the next level. Like from just a skirt to *damn that’s a cool skirt*
And putting the waist tie and/or something else through them is ~revolutionary~
I am stealing this idea
Wow, I like that dress so much better as a skirt! It was still pretty as a dress, but you made it look stunning. The longer lenght was definitely the right call, it looks great with this fabric!
thank you sm!! I was worried people might not be on board but I love that you're loving it (what can I say the commenters have taste)
@@beepwrld ❤️
it’s crazy how much of a difference the cherries made, it looks like an entirely new shirt!!
If you attach buttons further down, you can use the belt loops to bustle up the skirt. I like to add that to a lot of my full hippie skirts
omg this is genius thank you so much for sharing this
Right?!?
jaw dropped at the skirt reveal u KILLED IT! love it
you could make a waist band or pockets with the sleeves of the dress😮😮
I often hide the knots/ends of embroidery inside the fabric itself. For an example like the towel, you could probably start by inserting the needle into the inside between the thick edging piece, and pull it out so that it's starting where you want your embroidery to start. If it works, your end should be inside the edging, and not visible from the outside. You can hide the end knot the same way. (:
Yes! This is what I was thinking
Oh wow you had a VISION for that skirt. My mouth popped open in awe when I saw the after footage.
hahaha I did!! So glad you enjoyed the final product
This is a good reminder to do the thriftflips i've been procrastinating 😅
Girl, don't feel bad about making the dress a skirt. I just did the same to two dresses I've had for years.
The dress was cute, but do whatever makes it wearable for you. (that's also why I turned my dresses into skirts 😂) 👍
That is one stylish and skilled minion 😳 Give this one a raise, Gru!
My blanket stitch tip is to mark 1 cm (or however wide you want the stitch to be) on your thumb. Just using a pen or some waterproof eyeliner or something. That way you can space them out evenly and your stitches will look super neat, without having to reach for a ruler all the time!
As to the dress-turned-skirt: maybe you can use the extra fabric from the sleeves to make a wider waistband, maybe even a string to tie the waist with?
The skirt came out perfectly and suits you 🍒 Maybe you can make slip pockets or an unstructured purse with the excess sleeve fabric.
The graphic on the ref shirt made s huge difference! The artwork is beautiful and gave me some ideas for my own home. Thanks!!
I feel like the weird side seams on the skirt look perfect for putting pockets in... Morgan donner has a great video on adding all kinds of pockets to garments.
I'm also remaking a dress into a skirt at the moment that has this amazing black silk taffeta circle skirt (so like light but sort of stiff and swooshy). The bodice was dying and was way too small for me, but my mum owned it when she was younger and it was vintage then, so I felt soooo stressed about taking it apart, but I'm glad I went for it! It was no good to anyone until I rescued it!
Those sleeves look puffy... isn't there enough fabric in them to create a matching waistband?
For the sleeves: What I personally love to do with my scrap fabric is either matching scrunchies or matching hair bows that I later attach to hair clips.
I was so sad when you went after that dress, but your vision prevails and it looks even more anazing now! The sleeve remains make such cool panel details!
Definitely would love to see more diys!
love how that cherry graphic tee turned out!! i totally want to try that:3
the cherries are cute! glad the acrylic works for you, you could also get some "fabric medium" to mix into the acrylic which ensures that it will stay put in the wash and makes it a bit more smooth to work with while painting
The skirt came out amazingly! And it has a twirl factor of at least 8, I can see why you were loathe to give it up! ❤ I love all your thrift flip videos!
Seeing how big the sleeves were you could definitely use them to make a waistband for the skirt or make hair scarves to match the skirt
For the sleeves, maybe either a matching headband/scarf or even a cute lil matching mini bag if possible ??
Acrylic paint on fabric works really well if you heat set it before washing:D especially if you wash with cold and hang dry
oo great tip!! thank you!
that skirt thrift flip was magical!!
You can set the acrylic paint by putting parchment paper over it and using a clothes iron on low for a bit or i think in a pinch if you have a hot hairdryer you can blow hot air on it for a bit to set it. But it will crack over time, so it is best to add a fabric medium to it or buy fabric paint which is just acrylic paint with the fabric medium already mixed in. The ratio of the fabric medium will be important though to not lose too much opacity in the paint when you mix it in yourself.
the skirt turned out amazing! you could totally add other things like charms or chains or something depending on the outfit!
Use the sleeves to make a waistband! Gonna have lots of seams but if you space them evenly it will work with that skirt ❤
They all turned out really cool, especially super impressed with the skirt, good job!
I totally think the rectangles on the side of the skirt could be places where you could put pockets! Since the look of the skirt is already a good pocket shape.
uggghhh your are so inspirational to me!! The towels matching the painting miht have made my day lol. I have been dying to paint one of mt shirts, and know i am going to try!
Slayful is my new favorite word
If you're having trouble with using just acrylic paint. You can go to the craft store and find fabric medium, which gets added to acrylic and then can be used for safe washing.
You could hide the ends in the fold of the towel hem with a needle (if they have any hems that are folded.) or you can crochet a simple border on top of the stitch, for instance just single crochet along the top - pretty easy and quick too like learning the blanket stitch :) - it gives the edge more body and you can hide any ends in the single crochets to make it look really nice, or you could then even do a scallop edge or picot edge or even a crochet lace border on top of that. it's one of my favourite ways to decorate old stuff. once you get the blanket stitch done that's the most work, crocheting on top is even faster than the embroidery :D I think the blanket stitch on its own looks very cute too as decoration, or i use it for instance to lengthen sleeves that are just a bit too short with lace crochet, it is a great way to add a super cute looking border to anything and everything
Add some elastic to the top of the sleeves so you can pin them to any sleevless top to add cold shoulder or off the shoulder sleeves. You can also just add them to a white top to match the skirt!
omg the skirt is so cute!! also, love these types of videos, cause my project pile is intimidatingly big, and I always need motivation lol
thank you!! & hahah me too I have so many to do still.. but slowly we will conquer them all💪
Use the fabric from the sleeves of the dress for the fabric to lengthen the skirt!
I absolutely love the new posters
A real upgrade! And the Will Morris print! Perfect!
Cute cute cherries on your shirt!❤️❤️
Amazing DIYs! Would love more videos like this when you have more projects to show. Also NEED to know how you styled your hair and bangs! Looks great :))
Use the fabric from the dress sleeves to make a waistband!
Regarding the skirt, you could maybe even put pockets where those loops on the side are? I think it would fit well and who doesn’t love pockets 😂
Liz the Builder ! She can thrift flip it ✨
loved this!! always love to see your thrift flips and DIYs I could eat this content up all day :))
edit: just finished the video and simply had to add, i LOVE the way you turned that dress into such a unique skirt, it's literally a new item with infinite styling possibilities what a slay!!
thank you so much!!! so glad you enjoyed the vid and the skirt hehe I'm so excited to play around with it:)
Fell in love with William Morris years ago👍
You can use the sleeves to make a scrunchy to match the skirt or ribbon, or make pockets to your skirt (because we all know skirts are 1000 times better with pockets ! 😉
the skirt has the perfect carabiner clip holder now
omg the skirt is INSANE like it’s so stunning, glad you didn’t listen to us😂
omg hahah thank you so much Kendra so glad you approve
Yes please. Another DIY would be great 🎉❤
You could use the sleeves from the dress to make a waistband.
ooooh i love the belt half way
Last summer my mom, boyfriend, and I went to William Morris' craftsman cottage home in England. It was stunning, absolutely adorable and a truly gorgeous location! Highly recommend anyone who can go to do so! It's called Kelmscott Manor and it's in the Cotswolds.
For the towels, after you knot them off, thread the long tail between the layers of the hem (examine your towels. Some of them have multiple layers not including the roll of the hem. This works best as it won't come loose as easily, but if it doesn't, you can sew up the gaps after having your loose embroidery thread secured) until you're a couple inches down. Then lead it beck through the front, pull taut, and snip so the tail disappears.
you coud use the sleeves to make pockets for the skirt !!! 🤩
If you have a sleeveless peter pan-collared shirt then you could sew on the sleeves! I think that would be adorable.
You also gave me the inspiration to paint a dinosaur on one of my t-shirts, thank you.
the skirt looks so pretty! 😍
The skirt turned out amazing 👏 👏👏❤️
thank you sm!!!
make the waistband with the sleeves :)
You could use the sleeves to make pockets!!
I got out all my upcycles so I can diy along with this video 🙏 thank you for the motivation
Coming back after watching to say: if you're unsure about what to use the sleeves of the dress for, and they end up sitting around for a while, you can use those to make the waistband of the skirt so that it matches. Great video, wonderful diy's, 10/10 ❣️
you could use the sleeve fabric to make a waistband !!!
OMG YESSSSS ANOTHER ONE!! So excited for this!!
(looking forward for the end of exam season so i can tackle my own pile lol)
noooo... I cannot unsee the Minions comparison! still, we love
A drawstring small purse and matching ribbons or hair tie.
I was rooting for months for you to turn that dress into a skirt and wow!
Love these videos, really motivates me to get through my endless to do list!
Love these videos! Would definitely watch more like this.
love this type of videos! so inspiring!
I was honestly sceptical about how the sleeve portion of the skirt would look, but I love how those panels create a really subtle contrast! And the sleeves could be easily turned into scrunchies or headbands or reusable gift bags !
Absolutely adore all your DIYs😍
Turn the sleeve into a little floppy purse to match skirt.
The skirt is amazing! Brilliant idea on making it longer!❤
What a coincidence, I've got a dress waiting to be turned into a skirt next to me right now! I guess this is my sign to stop putting it off 😅All your flips look so cute, the cherry tee is my favourite
I have the same pearl necklace, it was my great grandmothers in the 20s-40s
OK I have an idea I would love to see you experiment and style with! I'm not 100 % if you've already done something like this since I'm a relatively recent subscriber so haven't had the time to binge through all your videos yet. BUT yesterday the shoelaces in my gray leather shoes broke and I swapped them to another shoelaces in a different colour that I happened to have at home. And omg even a small difference (from grey to black laces) gave the boots such an updated and more interesting look, and I'm much more excited to wear them now. Sooo my thinking is: it would be so cool to see what type of ideas for different combos and outfits YOU with your funky and imaginative sense of style could maybe come up with! If you use other shoelaces you have at home, or borrow from someone you could have a decent amount of alternatives without even buying anything new (I've never seen just shoe laces sold at the thrift store).
Definitely giving bob the crafter
I really like to tuck half way down my skirt into my waistband; I bet if you use the loops on your skirt to hitch it up to your waist, it will add a lot of dimension!
also this inspired me to finally get frames for the prints i’ve had since 2020😵💫
Hi new subscriber here. I love all you DIY's such great ideas. You are very talented and very inspiring.
Love the dress to skirt transformation! Seems much more you now
thank you!! definitely is haha I'm stoked to wear it
lol i have that exact same necklace and also find the clasp to be too loose!! i gotta take a page outta ur book and switch it out
The belt through the loops is kinda making a mermaid silhouette, which was big at the Met gala this year. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's on trend.
It’s giving ✨holly hobby✨
omg.... me if I were a doll
the skirt!
loved all of the diys! I have a red shirt like this and I'm really tempted to paint it now. And the dress is much better as a skirt. Great video editing and narrating too. Bestdressed was my favourive fashion youtuber once upon a time, and I never tought I would find someone like her again. You have the same enthusiasm for fashion and making quality videos :)
Ok that skirt! 👏
My favorite DIYs were your cherry tee and the hand towels 😊 so so simple and so cute!
I also appreciate that you rope in such fun sponsors like milanote and posterstore! I wonder if some of your illustration could get posted on that site?
Wooohoo, half of your poster art haul is Swedish :D ;)
You could have cut only part of the sleeves off and turned inside out to be pockets in your new skirt. Also you can still use the belt in the loops if you want to wear it as a dress with waistband at the armpit level.
i would like to hear about the trouble shooting! i don't think its boring lol :)
I love the skirt! why don't you use the sleeve fabric to make a waist band?
This is a great! For the necklace though, you had been using it wrong. The loop would have been around the pearl/loop you were hooking it around. There would have been a longer section of single beads/pearls though. IT would not have ended in a loop like it was.
the sleeves could become pockets
A girl after my heart. lol. This has been my life upcycle and create for less. The only thing is I’m not very artistic. Crafty yes. So I would have to actually see a cherry drawing tutorial or copy yours lol to actually draw the cherries
The skirt I wonder if you could also wear it shorter by folding the top part in and using the waist tie to secure it though the loops somehow? The whole idea is really lodging itself in my brain here
ohhh I love this idea the versatility!! I will have to try this
You could’ve made the sleeves into pockets
From what I've heard, you can also use fabric medium to thin the paints to help them adhere or lay better on the fabric. What fabric medium is I don't really know though, been trying to find it online for years, but never found any to buy even though it's supposed to be a thing. :I
I have some that's JoSonja brand, if having a brand name helps your search
@@helenm1085 That does, thank you :D
heyy, what is the microphone you use? thank youu
