    I just set up a 29 gallon tank! It was cycling for two months now and it’s finally cleared to get fish so I went out and got 2 of the most cutest baby Ranchus and I’m so excited to raise them!! Thanks for this video!!!!! 🥰

    • @sofybeckwith153
      @sofybeckwith153 2 года назад +12

      Make sure to upgrade your tank to at least 50 gallons when they get bigger. These fish need much more room than 29 gallons! Their bodies will only grow to the size of the tank but their intestines never stop growing. In a healthy environment they should grow to a minimum of 6 inches. No hate just making sure you’re aware of the appropriate tank size!

    I had a goldfish who loved their bubbler and blue pebbles, would take time to pick out as many to place around the bubbler as possible, and put in high points on the fake wood prop. Ever been death glared by a goldfish? It's funny, the blue pebble in the tree was not to be touched, and if annoyed enough they would pick up a pink pebble to spit it at the glass. Miss having them but apartment living isn't the best for large tank needing fish.

Tons of amazon sword plants and pothos clippings keep the water ammonia and nitrite-free, but I don't know if anything stops the hormone apart from more water changes.

I have noticed that some of the ranchu I have are not of a high standard and would like to move them to a different tank setup however, I only have a chiller on the one main GF tank. My question is, could I possibly put them into a 180l tank that can get up to 28 degrees Celsius or higher during heat waves (inside tanks) or should I try and sell them to a local pet shop? The only people that usually have chillers here are those who do marine tanks, everything thinks I am crazy when I say its for fancy goldfish!

    I agree with you on "overstocking". There are several ways to improve the conditions for the fish. Number of "inches of fish versus gallons" is useless as a measure of the conditions for the fish. A much better rule of thumb is "The fish load is too high if nitrate ever hits 40 ppm, or if nitrite is ever anything other than 0." This nudges the fishkeeper to consider several factors that affect the fish's health, and to actually test so they can begin learning how to improve the conditions. Including aeration, plant filtration, surface area in the tank, being less wasteful with the feeding, water changes, water volume, and other factors. It doesn't capture everything, but no rule can, and it's lightyears ahead of "one inch of fish per gallon" which is useless. I've kept 50 inches of endlers in a 10 gallon tank successfully, but a 10-inch Bala shark in a 10-gallon is overstocked.

      You can use sponge filters and simply just not fill the tank up very much. You will had less volume, meaning less fish can be in it, but it will be better for the fish.

    I thought it was one inch of fish per gallon. So two 5 inch fish would need 10 gallons. But also if you start with small fish you’ll want more gallons for growth.

    By overdoing the filtration. Can I use like a 7 to 8 times of the tank volume water pump for my canister filter. Will it work or do I need a sponge filter too?
