Do you find that you need to clean this tank often? I moved my two common goldfish that I won from a state fair a month ago to a heavily planted 50-gallon tank with 5 danios because it was just too much to maintain the smaller 15-gallon tank. It's so planted I can't see the substrate it's covered in swords, runners, and java ferns and anubias, and java moss, banana plants, mostly plants they don't eat. The parameters in this tank are very stable and its mostly self-sufficient outside of needing to cut back trimmings. I'm worried that they goldfish are going to soil the tank. It's been a week so far, and everything seems fine.
I love that you show all the faffing and mess that go into creating a tank too, because those are the silly things that make it funny. And then when you're done, and you look at your masterpiece, and think "yeh, I did that" .... And then you turn around and see all the buckets, and water and bits of plant & rubbish all over the place in the rest of the room 🤣🤣🤣
Those little hacks are my favorite part of this channel. somethings you hear every video. its those little things that have no branding that are cool af to me lol
I love the way you care for your fish. I also move my fish by hand, once they're used to it sometimes they'll go straight into it when I'm just fixing a plant. And the no filter for some of the really heavily planted tanks is how I have a lot of my tanks and they grow really well like yours. Love your channel
I have some goldfish in a stock tank pond outside. I've got hardy water lilies, rotala, bacopa, and even a couple spare crypts out there. The only plant they really mess with is floating plants. They nibble the roots off of any floaters I put in.
I dont own fish, I own invertebrates but you are slowly bringing me round to the idea of a beautiful natural looking fish tank to compliment my invert enclosures, I'm thinking about shrimp tank but will be doing a lot more research long before I look to get any new animal.
Delightful setup. Simple and attractive. Works so well with the goldfish. I know it won't work with the light fittings being in the way... but I'd love to see the setup with the HOB filter on the side of the tank to give a really clean, clear look at the back of the tank.
Been home sick with covid this past week, and I've really enjoyed binging your videos while at home. I've learned a lot and can't wait to take it to my own aquariums once I get the time and space to! Your tanks are absolutely beautiful
They are so cute! I’ll name them for myself if you won’t! 😜 The one that was chilling in the red plants name is “Pumpkin”. The more white and black one’s name is “Dotty”. And the dark orange and black one’s name will be “Gill” ☺️
I’ve been a subscriber for a long time. I have had nothing but excitement when I see a little notification in the corner. Another great video. You inspired me to come back into the hobby. Keep on doing what you do well!
Your Betta tank reminded me of a 15 gallon I used to have about 12 years ago, with Co2, it got taken over by the Blyxa Japonica jungle I had going on. I was throwing loads of it away to make space for my Ember Tetras to swim. I decided to list it on ebay and I ended up selling loads of it, it was replicating pretty quick via runners sprouting and popping up.
I'm in the middle of redoing my goldfish tank and your videos give me a lot of inspiration and information! its great to see that plants are working for you, i will be trying out some plants myself to see what works and what doesn't.
The new plants look amazing with the goldies! I think the darker substrate compliments them so well too, and I like it better then the light substrate you initially put in. Good choice MD! Loving the whole new look! I was wondering, if you put a little duck weed in now and then, it also might deter them from eating the plants? Idk, just a thought. Thanks for sharing what you do so well. Always a pure pleasure!
They are so cute in that tank MD! I think the plants will survive them. Either way you are providing great content and doing experiments that others can learn from.
That attempted Elephant analogy!! LMAO 😂 Great substrate setup, think that crushed lava rock will really help. Fingers crossed they don't eat all the plants. Also, check your emails MD - I wana buy you a pint!! 🍻
I really like the last 20 second of the video 😆 Just watching them swim while the music is playing 👍 You should get a bunch of footage and do one of those 4k aquarium videos that is 3 hours long with chill music in the backround 😁🙏
I am obsessed with your channel at the mo! Not had an aquarium for a good few years, before I recently got a little set up for my son. Now I'm planning several of my own. I used to keep Axolotls and frogs, but Nano fish are really tickling my fancy now. I feel like Jonny 5... Input input!
I didn't think I would, but I really like that dark sand, it does look really natural. I wonder how much impact dark substrates have on plant growth compared to lighter substrates which reflect some of the light back into the plants. Possible video idea 💡
one of my favorite parts of the hobby is experimenting with different methods to see what works, it's cool to see you try things out and document it for everyone to learn from
This looks great, and the fish looks so happy! Crossing my fingers that you don’t come down in the morning and find all of the plants nibbled down to nubbins 🤞🏻
Gorgeous tank! The goldfish are toooo cute. Every set up you do has such a new interest, it's really cool you can make the same concept so enjoyable every single time! You really make me want to try planted tanks Have been a fish keeper since I was a kid (38 now) and only once did I try plants and got Malaysian snails. lol so I gave up, but...I still have them (a loach has helped me minimalize them) so maybe I should try again! It looks so good!
this is inspiring me to reset my 3 year old planted angelfish tank and follow proper set-up lol. I dont have lava rocks below and I only have patches of soil and sand as I kinda just added parts and parts of my tank from time to time lol.
I watched a RUclips video thr other day on a breeder of Ranchu goldfish in the UK. He breeds them in man-made ponds outside in a green house type shed. He was saying ranchus do best in a big area of shallow water cos of their shape, makes sense! They struggle in deep water.
woul love to have such golfishes but my tank is too small. I LOVE the tank. Not too much hardscafe which is my cup of tea. Maybe you could plant some smaller tanks with little-medium hardscape?
I think you're right about the plants, if they are small they see them as food. Larger plants don't get touched. So many myths about what you can and can't do, I would ignore a lot of them.
Md love the channel could you advise me on what flooring plants are good to get nitrate down there’s not much difference between tank and tap, so I need something to all eat nitrate. Basically thanks for your time mate keep the builds going you’re an inspiration baz
I'm interested in knowing how this tank holds up over the next month, the plants look great rn but as someone who owns a comet goldfish rn, I would suggest hardier plants like anubias and java fern unless you're counting on a very fast growth rate to negate any nibbling. Though tbf, duckweed has shown to be an acceptable sacrifice in my experience to allow you to keep even an infamous tank destroyer like a comet fry in a planted tank. I'm not actually planning on keeping this around a year old fry more then a couple more months though, but then they'll be someone else's problem because I'm still far from owning a pond and wanna give them to someone else that does, since they're getting a bit too big for an indoor tank at 3in, 4in if you count the long tail ^^'. Good luck with your goldies though and I hope the plants survive since they'll definitely help the age old issue of every goldie keeper, they need all the help with filtration they can get and I prefer natural over mechanical Also, one last thing, that bottle idea is genius and I immediately thought of how well it would work with a betta fish so thanks for that idea. Definitely storing that for later
I have a goldfish that I got when i first started the aquarium hobby and now 3 years in i have really got interested in planted tanks and it eats almost every plant i try to put in. Frustrating but I have found some that work even if its not exactly what i wanted. Thinking about buying another smaller tank so i can do what i want with it.
I think it looks really good. So simple but amazing! Plants just make the difference with everything! Tbh I think the goldies will be fine with the plants!
I've felt similar about all the cautionary tales since coming into the hobby. There are no doubt best practices, certain types of fish that don't mix etc, and best water conditions for each fish. But everyone seems to have such varied experiences. I feel like quite a lot of the staples that get told to beginners are more like folklore than hard fast rules. Not saying to ignore other peoples' experiences by any means, just that mileage seems to vary a lot in this hobby. Was kind of glad to hear someone else feel the same way. I've planted my Fantail aquarium because I feel like they benefit from environmental enrichment and eating it is a bonus for their diet, so whatever. Afterall, it's not a show tank.
Beautiful…I found them to be intelligent when I had them…I think the tank is great f0r them. Lots of stimulation. Have you ever tried giving them a ping pong ball to play with…have no idea if they would, but might be fun.
I watched the Amazon video right before this one and I love it so much, but my understanding from getting my youtube degree in fancy goldies is that the hardscape needs to be limited to smooth items like you've done with the rocks here. I'm checking out goldfish setups because I'm trying to upgrade mine from their current, embarrassing stock tank. Do you have any ideas for how we could make a tank that has plants at the top, but for goldies, so no wood to help give a natural look? I can't think of anything that wouldn't have them just kind of hanging there very unnaturally. One thought was maybe like a shelf, with side supports that rest on the stand, so an upside down, squared U, with holes drilled in. Then I'm not exactly sure how I would secure the plants into the holes, but their roots would be dangling into the water and then maybe have some pothos or creeping jennies or a nicer vining plant to hide the bases of the taller plants and hopefully most of the shelf so that the whole setup is sort like encased in plants with more vines down the left and right sides. Maybe not having room for a light would be the issue? I am 100% an aquarium noob, probably trying to jump in too hard, but I just don't really have any other level :D I will start small though, I just want a little bit of an end goal vision.
Bristlenose don't eat slime coat, ottos do. Love the way you just leave the pearlweed grow doesn't work for me for some reason. Gets stuffed with muck since it sieves the water due to flow and algae take over all throughout it... end up discarding it eventually 😂
Wow I'm jealous of you, I am new to fish keeping and I grow plant first and after 1 month bring 2 goldfish and they destroyed almost all the plants and messed up my substrate
always curious as to what tank you use for these video's the water drains and gets put in so nicely that it won't disturb the substrate. I need a pocket pump for my 55 and 140 gal because how AI been doing it is taking a massive bucket and lifting it over my head to pour it in
Hi. Big fan here. Here's an idea. Why not make a planted Avatat themed fish tank? Like the halleluyah mountanis or the seascape at Avatar 2. And put in a betta sorority for the colorful fish. Have a great year
I thought those root tabs were slow release, taking a while to break down and leeching into substrate? Using a pestle to grind them down, doesn't cause any issues like algea bloom or affect water quality?
What nutrient substrate layer would you reccomend? I've never been good with plants in aquariums but that's just cause I was using nothing but gravel I think!
I have a bristlenose with my ranchu and don't have an issue with him and he's about 5 inches. Can I ask what you used for the soil? I always worried about using soil in my tank.
I have some anecdotal evidence about plecos sucking on slime coats; I've seen it happen once; my brother was a shitty fish keeper and didn't feed the tank enough, and definitely didn't leave enough for the scavengers so they got a little aggressive. Once I started sneaking in sinking pellets and stuff it stopped. Your plecos and such probably leave other fish alone because you're caring for them properly.
That's exactly what I'm thinking with that idea, that and many scavenger fish sold as algae eaters are, in fact, scavenger fish and only stick to algae as fry because it's easy to get and small enough to eat. Once they start growing though... They've gotta get their protein one way or another and if they're not stocked with a bunch of short lived fish that provide an occasional carcass to feed on or target fed, they can get kinda aggressive when starved. Ofc though, the fish isn't the bad guy here, nor even the owner in most cases, the true culprit is ignorance as many people aren't warned about what they're truly buying and not all sellers know either. With time though that rare instance may become all but a myth as more awareness is spread about these awesome, often not so little guys, and I'll happily wait to see that day
When you use API ( QUICK START ) How many days did you cycle the tank? before you put the API quick start? beginner here thanks thanks anyone that reply
Hey MD! I was just wondering if using plants that you’re able to glue onto rocks or wood would be good choice? My thought process is they’re not in the substrate so they avoid some of the sifting, but i could see them picking off the leaves just as easily. 😂 Any advice helps!!

Is you’re beta fish hiding from the light . Too bright for him x
Hey I really love your content. I would like to see more of the videos were you review other people's tanks! TY
Still think you'd really fall in love with Black Moore goldfish 🤣
Do you find that you need to clean this tank often? I moved my two common goldfish that I won from a state fair a month ago to a heavily planted 50-gallon tank with 5 danios because it was just too much to maintain the smaller 15-gallon tank. It's so planted I can't see the substrate it's covered in swords, runners, and java ferns and anubias, and java moss, banana plants, mostly plants they don't eat. And then when you're done, and you look at your masterpiece, and think "yeh, I did that" .... And then you turn around and see all the buckets, and water and bits of plant & rubbish all over the place in the rest of the room 🤣🤣🤣
the plastic bottle water diffuser is probably the best hack ive learned from this channel. so cool to see it still being so useful!
Those little hacks are my favorite part of this channel. somethings you hear every video. its those little things that have no branding that are cool af to me lol
Loving the goldfish, I'm off to pick up pea puffers today for a planted tank I've been cycling, Hope 2023 has been good for you so far MD
Love the rounded rocks, I think too many aquascape use jagged rocks that don't look like they have been in a stream.
I know right, I think sometimes people forget that flowing water will smooth off stones and rocks
also the smooth rocks are pretty much a must have with goldfish who can accidentally scratch themselves against sharp surfaces rather easily
That depends on whether they wanted to make their aquarium actually look like a steam or not.
The goldfish definitely put a smile on my face they're quite cute. Thanks for sharing and all the inspiration you give, MD
I love the way you care for your fish. I also move my fish by hand, once they're used to it sometimes they'll go straight into it when I'm just fixing a plant. What an awesome tank. The goldfish look like bubbles with fins, very cute 😊
I’ve been a subscriber for a long time. I have had nothing but excitement when I see a little notification in the corner. Another great video. You inspired me to come back into the hobby. Keep on doing what you do well!
The colors of the fish look so great with the colors of the plants! You are definitely an aquarium artist!
Thanks carole. Yeah the plan come together well I think.
Your Betta tank reminded me of a 15 gallon I used to have about 12 years ago, with Co2, it got taken over by the Blyxa Japonica jungle I had going on. I was throwing loads of it away to make space for my Ember Tetras to swim. With goldfish a black background makes a huge difference, I would recommend doing that, it will probably make the plants pop aswell
I'm in the middle of redoing my goldfish tank and your videos give me a lot of inspiration and information!

I really like the last 20 second of the video 😆 Just watching them swim while the music is playing 👍

Had a planted temperate goldfish set up for well over 2 years now. No problems as long as you have the right plants
one of my favorite parts of the hobby is experimenting with different methods to see what works, it's cool to see you try things out and document it for everyone to learn from
You should do a Japanese zen garden tank where you do driftwood with the moss/plants on top to look like a bonsai tree
This looks great, and the fish looks so happy! Crossing my fingers that you don’t come down in the morning and find all of the plants nibbled down to nubbins 🤞🏻
Hi, I love your videos. I started watching your videos for about a year ago. And I would love to see you make a slate tank. Or use slate in a build. 😁

What size is the tank? Love the way it looks 😍
Happy New Year and much luck and happy fishkeeping. ❤goldfish. Your tank setups always look so amazing. Great tip for the filter flow.
I love that you have plants with Goldfish! Super cool 😎 Gina

It's looks really beautiful!
Forgive but I'm a little worried about the roughness of the substrate- not sure if it will scratch them🤔
Wow I'm jealous of you, I am new to fish keeping and I grow plant first and after 1 month bring 2 goldfish and they destroyed almost all the plants and messed up my substrate
Sad the see the buce go. But the setup looks great. Especially with those fish. The colors are perfect!
Glad you got these positive experiences with goldfishes. :)
YES! SNAILS *ARE* BRILLIANT! 😍😍😍
16:51 Camouflage! U'r doin' it right!
always curious as to what tank you use for these video's the water drains and gets put in so nicely that it won't disturb the substrate. I need a pocket pump for my 55 and 140 gal because how AI been doing it is taking a massive bucket and lifting it over my head to pour it in
A beautiful looking specimen, and the fish are nice as well.
Hi. Big fan here. Here's an idea. Why not make a planted Avatat themed fish tank? Like the halleluyah mountanis or the seascape at Avatar 2. And put in a betta sorority for the colorful fish. Have a great year
First red plant looked so good. More to watch.
MD! My man! Good morning from Texas
MD, when you gonna start build your high tech tank? Cant wait for it😅
Beautiful. MD - would be so interesting to see you do an Oscar tank. 🙏
Attachment you hung on the tank for filling up and removing water. Just wondered where you bought from
Nice! But i didnt see you return the snails you removed when you first broke down the tank. Did you forget or you didnt get to film it? 😀
Just a quick one do you put an air pump with your gold fish and all the others?
Can you do a black phantom tetra aquarium? They are one of my favourite tetras and I would really like to see an aquascape with them. No pressure!
Love the scape! personally i wouldve added some crypts on the front left instead of more of that rotala, looks wild tho! ❤🔥
I thought those root tabs were slow release, taking a while to break down and leeching into substrate? Using a pestle to grind them down, doesn't cause any issues like algea bloom or affect water quality?
Do you still have these goldies? Ive looked through the channel and cant see any videos on them?
Yo emdee, what happened to the plastic net bags for the aquasoil? We not doing that any more?
Can you please make a update about the goldfish?
The Music for the episode was Fire
I remember your previous Ranchus were very cute like these ones!
Say, I wonder if one d ay you will do a bichir tank! They absolutely love planted tanks so
It's really funny that the last goldfish just didn't notice you taking out his friends 1:18
Tank looks good as always, what fertilizers do you use
I believe he uses API Root Tabs, crushed up fine and sprinkled over the middle layer of his substrate?
What nutrient substrate layer would you reccomend? I've never been good with plants in aquariums but that's just cause I was using nothing but gravel I think!
super nice aquarium! I'm curious if it will still look like this when the fish are bigger😄. my ranchu's are absolute destroyers.
you had fun with your puppy dogs fish; too cute
Plant weights have been missing from my life ... didn’t know they existed!!
hope the goldfish dont mess up the dirt layer. they are prone to rooting around the substrate
I have no idea I could find this plants on my location.. Could you write that plants names for me? Thank you.. Your tank is great..
Nice done!
You are the guy!
Hii! Do you know if it is possible to keep the gold fish with that other fishes they stayd with? 😚
You're kind of like the British Bob Ross of fish tanks. 😊
I like how these goldfish look like they're struggling to swim. Poor lil guys, but funny af.
With time though that rare instance may become all but a myth as more awareness is spread about these awesome, often not so little guys, and I'll happily wait to see that day
I've heard that goldfish can swallow and get choked by small gravels so it's better to use either fine sand or gravel bigger than their mouths
I've also read that somewhere and the same goes for some cichlids
It would be very rare to happen.
Love the tank! Lets hope it works! 😊
When you use API ( QUICK START ) How many days did you cycle the tank? before you put the API quick start? beginner here thanks thanks anyone that reply
Question, did you plant the red with weight? Can I plant it without weight and foam?
Question, If CO2 isn't being used, then how do you keep the color of red so bright? :)
great video awesome fish and tank - you're voice is competing with your volume gotta turn that down and master it separate.
Any updates on the Ranchu?
Watching the three of them get put into the plant holding tank, they were so confused haha
Hey MD! I was just wondering if using plants that you’re able to glue onto rocks or wood would be good choice? My thought process is they’re not in the substrate so they avoid some of the sifting, but i could see them picking off the leaves just as easily. 😂 Any advice helps!!
Thanks for the upload
