We know you love scary animatronics, so just like we promised today, we’ll be covering 9 of the scariest animatronics from universal studios! And to do so, we’ll be joined by another theme park expert: Expedition Theme Park!

Disney of course creates the classic animated fairytales!! Plus family friendly dark rides like Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion
okay but Dinosaur at animal kingdom makes me crap myself, they also got them scary dinosaurs
Spielberg was very very angry when the other ET rides closed. At this point he's told Universal that if they close the ET ride in Orlando he will refuse to work with them again. He won't let them touch it.
He also said that Jurassic park would not be allowed in Universal Orlando if ET the ride was close in the park
I recently went on this ride for memories and I still am scared of his friends till this day. But I hope it never gets closed because it needs to stay for many generations.

they really should attempt to update it and the area around it. since The Simpsons area is probably going away, so they should think about bringing back the Back To The Future stuff too. people loved it and nostalgia is a big interest today.

Here's some other terrifying animatronics I know of:
-Imhotep from Revenge of the Mummy
-All the Aliens from Men in Black Alien Attack
-The Cat along with Thing 1 and Thing 2 from The Cat in the Hat (It's just their eyes are staring into your soul)
The "Mom" animatronic from ET is fairly spooktacular, as well.
That freaking cat in the hat ride is the stuff of nightmares

When I was a child I went to universal and I was told by my parents and sister that the Jaws ride was just a boat ride and not scary. Well it was very scary and till this day I have a phobia of sharks and I don’t swim in the ocean.😂

I attended the Ghostbusters attraction and at the time met Wayne Brady as Winston. Way before he became famous of course. I remember his voice distinctly so when he was on whose line, recognized him almost immediately. Later, heard him talk about Ghostbusters on his talk show.

I really miss Jaws. While it is nice having Diagon Alley, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts was not worth losing the ride. Thank goodness Hagrid finally gave us far more animatronics for Harry Potter, because that was a heavy reason for why Gringotts was a disappointment.
As for E.T., it’s been said that Steven Spielberg was not happy with the Japanese and Hollywood versions of the ride closing, and threatened to end his ties with the creative team of the parks if the Orlando one was closed. So it’s not going anywhere for a while. But it does need a refurbishment soon. Some of the animatronics, like an owl, could really use some updates, not to mention E.T’s really weird way of pronouncing our names on the passports.
Finally, I’d argue Aragog and the other spiders are even more scary on Forbidden Journey than the Hungarian Horntail.
that was the biggest disappointment with gringotts! the screens! animatronics are just so charming and they really bring the rides to life in a way that i feel screens aren’t able to.

They seriously should have closed fear factor live or at least MIB for Diagon alley, or you could’ve replaced Disaster and Beetle Juice instead of doing that horrible Fast and Furious ride no one likes😔

It's true. That's why so many of their 'rides' are screen based 'attractions.' It's just movie theatres with sliding seats.
Honestly, if Fluffy and/or the Horntail Dragon are ever abandoned, I’m finding em and restoring them. They’re waaay too awesome to rot.
The scariest ride for me personally was the Harry Potter ride because when you’re riding, I didn’t realize that you would be swinging in the air in front of giant spiders and creatures. I cried...

Went to queue for Kong Skull Island two years ago and honestly the queue scared the crap out of me - I knew I wasn't the biggest fan of animatronics/ costumes (at least no up close - from a distance I think they're fascinating and bloody clever) but the witch really creeped me out.
What did it for me was the costumed cast members who jumped out in the pitch black as we were waiting - I could barely see anyway but between the (admittedly brilliant) themeing and the threat of people touching me it shook me up so much I didn't go on the ride in the end xD
Apparently the rides great and i'm not even sure if they still do the live cast bits but damn i'm never setting foot in that queue again (Apparently roller coasters are no problem for me but underpaid theme park staff in masks and moving latex turn me into a huge wuss)
Me too! I still havent been on the ride because I'm just so afraid of jump scares. Like if I wanted to be spooked like that I would go to a haunted house, not a theme park queue :(
They, sadly, still have the cast members jump out. It terrifies me to this day and I refuse to go in the regular queue. If you have a fast pass, you don’t see them. So I just give universal more of my money so I don’t have to experience that anymore 😂😂
I’ve been on this ride once and I don’t even remember seeing this stuff and I didn’t use the Express line since the line was on the short side.
Fluffy shouldn’t be on here, but every animatronic in forbidden journey should be here

Well in all 4 movies he's only refer to as a shark and doesn't have a name. So I guess he can be forgiven. Spielberg also referred to him sometimes as 'The great white turd'

Yep, it's like Another Code: Two Memories and Trace Memory. Same exact game, just UK VS US name. Just the dialogue is different from my experience playing both.
Wish the sequel had an alternate version to try though.
I'm just blown away at how lifelike most of the animatronics are today. I remember going to Show Biz pizza in Indianapolis and thinking "Wow, this is cool!" For it's day it WAS, but NOT so much anymore.
Did you know that there were some lockers in the Ghostbusters show? Supposedly back in the day, when Twister was still open, you could ask to go backstage. If they'd let you, you could go inside the control room, where these lockers could still be seen.
Oh yeah, it's all coming together. Now this is what I am talking about, not only you guys talking about animatronics, but with a special cross over.

The Hungarian horntail dragon Is not Hagrid's pet. He *would* of had a Rhodesian ridgeback dragon as a pet, if it wasn't discovered still as a baby and sent away. The horntail is the dragon used for the dragon challenge, and the one Harry has to go up against, hence why also in the new (now sadly gone) Dueling Dragons "Dragon Challenge" ride, the blue was named Hungarian Horntail.
Rhodesian Ridgeback?? I thought Norberto was a NORWEGIAN Ridgeback? I mean I'll go and find my old book but I'm pretty sure that's the word I've read in book, game and official toy?
But yes, you know how much Hagrid loves Dragons, he would have happily kept the Horntail.
I felt physical pain learning that the Ghostbusters animatronics were destroyed. Why not have archived it instead?
Nat Your Average Nerd I know!!! Another thing is that the ghosts were made by the Chiodo Brothers who worked on the Killer Klowns from Outer Space movie and the Klown costumes in that. Those too were practically ruined by the studio repainting them to use in Ernest Scared Silly as the trolls and now hearing about the ghosts for Ghostbusters being destroyed is a real kick in my gut. These things are theme park history and should be archived!
@@ghastlyjibberish1314 universal doesn't give a shit about their animatronics honestly. They either let their animatronics rot, or tear them down most of the time, I guess it's a lot cheaper than having to store such huge animatronics like that.

I remember going to Jurassic world where you see the dinosaur and go straight down (forgot which one) and I can feel myself slipping out of the seats. Thankfully my sister hold onto me, and in the end the pictures showed me slipping off barely and my sister freaked out saying “SHE COULDVE DIED”.

In my opinion the scariest animatronic on this list was the shark from “Jaws”.
Honestly that shark always look so incredibly fake to me on the ride. sometimes you can even see it sitting under the water before it popped out.

I imagine the skipper on the Jaws ride trying to stay in character after the Shark electrocutes himself. It was probably awkward as shit.
i went to universal orlando this last year for hhn, and i was absolutely blown away with how they put the house together for Killer Klowns. everything looked like they ripped it right out of the film itself, all the way down to the people in the tall clown costumes (which were actually bigger than i thought!). it was very terrifying and i hope they come through for this next year's hhn.
as someone with extreme galeophobia (the fear of sharks) and mild submechanophobia (the fear of underwater manmade objects), that jaws ride shark animatronic unnerves me to no end. i can’t even watch the movie, let alone go on a ride themed around it. it’s utterly horrifying to me. i know that if i ever went on that jaws ride, i would probably have a panic attack.
They should do a chamber of secrets ride with the basilisk - maybe a water ride?
oh my god the witch is TERRIFYING!!!! not to mention you have the chanting and the fire and the music in the queue as well. it's such a surreal experience to be in there

If you have not visited universal Orlando, I highly recommend you go. It is so fun! I recommend riding the Jurassic Park ride and the mummy ride. The mummy ride was definitely the best ride I’ve ever rode.
Revenge of the mummy is fun, with the exception of pre covid days when you would get stuck with people who would speak every line during the ride (shit got annoying especially during hhn)

That indominous Rex is one of the main reasons I wanna see the Hollywood Studios ride-
I went to universal studios in 2001 when I was 5, and we went on the jaws ride. I remember the boat ride clear as day, the sharks attacking our boat and the boat driver shooting the sharks and one of the sharks ( I’m assuming the one that got electrocuted) caught fire. I CRIED the whole ride it was terrifying. We still have a photo album with photos of the ride and the burnt shark and my crying ass self.
I found the dragon in the Harry Potter ride to be the scariest because when I first went on that ride I was not expecting that lol
Honestly of the bunch I think Stay Puft was the spookiest. Something about the cute cartoony face looming like that in that kind of atmosphere does a good job capturing the uncanney valley effect to me.
The acromantula was the scariest to me because I have arachnophobia

I remember the first and only time I got to ride Jaws. I was terrified. I remember that in the scene inside the boat shaft I had my hand out of the boat, seconds later the shark passed by, touching my hand making me scream. Note that I am both terrified of any body of water, and have submechanophobia. Great convo for 11 year old me.

Kong's queue is great but it gets old fast if you get stuck in there for awhile. Also, there is no wifi. We also have screens with natives as well as an actual actor who pops out at you.

The jaws ride was my favorite since I was like 2 or 3....the fact key and peele used it in one their “meegan come back” sketches kills me lol “ahhh it’s jaws” 😂😂😂

Also, the only thing that scares me about the t-rex animatronic is the thought of it malfunctioning and falling when it lunges at guests. Otherwise, it's just kinda silly because you see the mechanisms that make it move, and it's not standing on anything. It's just floating and the thought of a t-rex that isn't affected by gravity amuses me.
The trex is truly terrifying,they do such a good job at amping it up and you're sitting there with your heart already racing and boom, giant beast and drop XD Its terrifying but def needs to be experienced :D

In universal Orlando, the Jurassic Park ride seems like just a ride where you get to look at all the animaTronics moving around but actually there is a giant dip to where you’re going underneath the big tyrannosaurus Rex animatronic and I did not know that that was there so when we were riding and I was like whatever and then I saw the giant thing and I saw the dip and my life flashed before my eyes.
When you talked about Skull Island Reign of Kong, I thought you were going to mention the big beautiful majestic Kong Animatronic, to me that’s the best part of the ride. The Witch is very impressive, no doubt, but Kong at the end 👌🏻🍒
Agreed!!!! It's a freaking beautiful animatronic. I guess he didn't mention it because it wasn't so much terrifying as it was mesmerizing. IDK. The whole ride is awesome

The queue for kong skull island took so long and it’s all enclosed for a long time...I started to panic being in there once we were in the part with the mummies, you can’t see the ride and have no idea how much longer you’ll be stuck in line. It’s insane.
Rode Jurassic World The Ride this past summer and I agree, the last part is pretty intense, there's so much going on Animatronic wise in a small amount of time you feel overwhelmed! I do think they need to add more when you go past the cage area for the Indominus Rex, its like a minute of nothingness.

*Wait.* My brother and I rode The Forbidden Journey ride a few years ago. Thing was, I was already feeling kind of sick while waiting in the line (it was the end of the day and I was pooped) and by the time I got on the ride itself I just did NOT want to be there. I kept my eyes closed and focused all my attention on not throwing up through 90% of the ride. And now you're telling me there was a huge-ass *_dragon head_* in my face and I never knew? I thought I felt steam and some roaring, but I didn't realize the ride was anything other than that digital screen. Jesus Christ, I totally missed it! AND my brother never told me! XD

I want to go to Universal Studios Japan just to pose in front of a roaring Rathian, Azure Rathalos, Zinogre, etc. etc. and mimic the pose whenever a monster roars and you don't have High Grade Earplugs. The selfies would be amazing.

Always and forever the OG T-Rex at the end of Jurassic Park was the scariest thing when i was younger. Although the spiders in the Harry Potter ride terrified me as well, pretty sure i closed my eyes and missed that whole chunk of the ride.
'The shark is not working, the shark is not working!' So apt then that the ride doesn't work just like the mechanical shark Bruce in the movie. A fitting tribute I'd say.
When I went on the Jurassic World ride in October of 2019, when I got scared by the predators I screamed "DOWN BESSY"...

I never found the Trex to be that impressive. It doesn’t look like the Trex from the films.
I’ve only ridden the Hollywood version so maybe Orlando is better.
They were in the middle of making the king Kong ride when I was last there around 2014. Can't wait to go again and see it

Dude.... if you didn’t go to the Hagrid’s ride on opening week.... YOURE LUCKY! Jesus Christ! The average wait was 10hours, it shut down a lot, a lot of storms caused it to close, too, and it broke down A LOT! And I had an executive pass, and I had to wait til the last day of my vacation to go because it was either too busy or shut down! It’s an amazing ride but when I went on it it broke down like 4 times for like 15-30mins each time. I loved the rides but Universal obviously wasn’t ready for its opening....
How about the "moby **ck of pleasure" it creeps me out so much! 🥺

All those animatronics are in few words more than meets the eye as a whole,but i can say with ease that nothing beats the sinister smile of jaws! He's like the joker of the seas in a horror movie and this saying allot to me.I always watch this attraction with awe waiting the shark to appear and i would love one day if i can see it from close!
I remember the original kong ride scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.
I remember when I was young going to universal and my fam and I rode the Harry Potter the forbidden journey, like, 18 times. Kinda funny tho how it kept breaking down and freezing right in the middle of the ride, and the characters on screen would just freeze with these stupid expressions on their faces, and you could just hear a whooshing noise in the background 🤣🤣🤣 I still love it tho
