I can say that when I was younger, I was very fortunate to experience the original Jaws ride. I didn't remember much outside of the 'biting the boat' part for the longest time. I also know it was one of the few times everything went fine. What I didn't know until later on, is that my Grandfather filmed the entire experience on VHS. I'm so grateful he did knowing later on that the original experience didn't work most times and only lasted for a few months. One of these days I'll have to transfer the footage from the VHS.
I also got to experience the original Jaws experience without a hitch when I was 11. I unfortunately do not have video of it. Wish I did. You're very lucky.
My grandfather and my dad got to ride the original jaws just two months before it closed. Sadly they didn’t videotape any footage of it. They have a photo of them outside of the original ride which is enough for me.
This was a tough video to watch. Those years were the heyday at Universal. As much as I love Potter, Jaws Terminator and Kong are iconic and should have never been removed.
You have to keep the rides of the movies that brought you to the dance. Disney has kept all their old movie rides for the most part. Back to the future, jaws, Kong, all need to be there. They are why people love universal. They replaced back to the future with simpsons for crying out loud.
It was the fact so much of the replacements were non-Universal that bugged me the most. Original Kong knocks spots off that Skull Island. That and Fast and Furious are the worst rides I have ever been on and will never queue more than 5 mins for either again...
Jay Day I don’t remember the banana but do remember the fake tv new and how King Kong would pull the cart (this thing 🚠) closer and all I could see is his glossy eyes.
Stay safe everyone! And don’t worry, your trips were just postponed, you’ll definitely get to go sometime soon 💖 Sending you guys lots of pixie dust! ✨✨✨✨
Definitely have to disagree with you there. Maybe at one time but universal outside of harry potter, is pretty forgettable to me now without all the classic rides they used to have. Just a lot of screen rides and fast and the furious might be the worst ride they ever created. To each their own but to me universal is far from its prime in the 90s.
I absolutely love so many of these attractions. I especially love Kongfrontation, Jaws the Ride, Back to the Future the Ride, Terminator 2 3D, and the Triceratops Encounter
"since the beginning, the construction of the ride was full of problems" oh so it was exactly like the movie? you know what they say, like movie like ride adaptation
Omg I hate that I feel like Disney does the screen rides better because they only have 2 screen rides that are great and well made. Universal just shakes you around. Disneyland makes it pop out at you and make it smell like where you are
I've been on Kongfrontation in Orlando! Greatest theme park ride I've ever been on. If I ever hit the lottery and hit it big; I'm going to have it remade just as it was for the entire public to enjoy once again.
This brings back so many good memories of growing up in the 90s and going to Universal during the summer. I loved those old rides so much and I'll definitely miss them but I'm glad I did get to ride Jaws one last time in 2007. If there is a part 2 I really hope you cover the Twister attraction. I loved that one so much and it's one of my favorite movies. It gives me so many good feelings to see the old Universal logo where I've got so many memories. I haven't been back since 2007 but I'd love to go back in the future and finally see all of the Harry Potter stuff
It'd be really cool if Universal revisited these old attractions for a couple years. Universal Japan is a fun visit because they have many of these classic attractions, but others are missing (like ET). Bringing these back as a limited event could be really interesting.
The thumbnail alone filled me with so much longing nostalgia I almost cried at the realization I would never get to go on those rides again. I’m really happy with the new rides, and I recognize that things need to change. Still, I think it’s okay to take a moment to appreciate what I had too. I still remember my excitement racing to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and my crushing realization that it is built over where the JAWS ride used to be. Clearly the ride meant a lot to me growing up. I’m grateful for my memories and I hope that many more can build memories just as meaningful with the current and future attractions.
I have distinct memories of waiting in line for Kongfrontation and that weird gas smell all over the area... I can't ever forget. So many classics I have memories of as a kid, I can't believe so many of them are gone/replaced!
My favourite retired ride has to be Back to the Future. I did that ride 7 times in a row once. I also loved Kongfrontation too. Earthquake was a great ride too. I also loved the Hannah Barbera simulator ride with dick dastardly
When me and my family were announced that the Jaws ride was closing down later that, we had to go say goodbye. It was our last ride that we had the most thrill of it. We sat in the very last row and it felt like we were getting a bit more scenery and more hydrologic feeling than in the front.
My dad and I got to ride Back to the Future before it opened for everyone, when it was being tested. We were the only people in the queue and on the ride, and it was so amazing and fun. There have been many improvements at Universal since then, but I really miss that ride.
So um quick fact about backdraft: the ending has the ceiling almost simulate a collapse where pips ( above the guests ) almost "falls down" on the guests
I am SO grateful that I got to experience the Jaws ride twice before it closed down. I'll never forget the first time because it was raining hard and we were dressed in yellow ponchos getting drenched by the rain. It was only me and my grandmother that went on the ride. We were horror movie buddies and we loved Jaws. The heavy rain we were in really enhanced the experience, making it WAY more terrifying! And the fact that we were also in yellow ponchos was the subtle icing on the cake that made it even scarier because in one of the sequels at the very beginning of the movie, a guy gets eaten by Jaws and he's in a yellow poncho/raincoat. I got to experience the ride one other time in my life before it closed down. The weather was clear that day so I got to experience it the "normal" way but it wasn't the same for 2 reasons...1. The bad weather the first visit actually added to it and made it better. 2. and more importantly...my grandmother was no longer with us 😥 She was all I could think about during the ride and it just wasn't the same. She died May 1st 2014. In a strange way...experiencing that ride for the last time felt like a way to say goodbye to her. Because I never had the chance to in person. I miss you so much Glinda Gilreath! 🥲💓
I went to Florida in 2003. Jaws, back to the future, Terminator 3D. It was amazing. All of them gone. I feel lucky to have experienced them. They were all absolutely amazing. And all absolutely timeless. All 3 movies are considered classics. They should have kept them going and repaired and updated bits if necessary. The main draw for me going there were those 3 experiences. It was 2003 and those movies were from 1975, 1985 and 1991. Why on Earth they needed to be removed is beyond me.
I lived in Orlando when Universal first opened. It was so fun! We used to go all the time. I loved the King Kong ride, Earthquake, ET, and Back to the Future! There was a Ren and Stimpy mini waterpark there, I was about 11, 12 when we would visit. I have pics standing in front of the Delorean from Back to the future, we watched the Beetlejuice show and John Stamos Western show, toured the Nickelodeon studios with lots of green slime., my ex boyfriend was in an old episode of Guts. haha Fright Night on Halloween was absolutely incredible, so many great memories! Thanks for this video, it takes me back.
Sorry if I’m late but this video was so fantastic and impressive. I would love to see this as a series. You would basically talk about Universal Studios history and story line. Thanks for the video.
I loved going on those rides (though i didn't go on the Backdraft ride) when I went to Florida in 1997. At least some of them still exist in Japan. I still have my 12'' Terminator 3D action figure and i treasure it.
Such great rides…I rode a lot of these at Universal in 1993. The back to the future ride was amazing for the times. The ET & The Kong frontation, the earthquake and jaws were really good too. For the times they were unlike anything!
I was at Universal in 1993 as a 12 year-old. Coming all the way from North Ontario, it was a big family trip. We did a 3-day at The Magic Kingdom, 1 at Busch Gardens and then Universal. Those rides and memories made me get a Diploma in Theatre Production and then work as a Roadie. The amount of work that goes into those sorts of attractions is incredible.
I go to Universal Studios Hollywood all the time and I always have an amazing experience a few years ago when I went on the studio tour I meet Vin Diesel because They were shooting a scene from fast and the furious I as well saw the film making crew shooting scenes for modern family it was epic
The only thing left of the jaws ride is Bruce the shark the tied down shark out in front of the ride. He was moved behind the seafood restaurant near the lake depends on you see it but it’s in a city section. It’s well hidden back there and you have to seek it out but the photo is worth it I think it’s the waterfront area. It’s kinda hard to spot.
I saw T2, Backdraft and Jaws at Osaka Universal last year. I'm glad I did. Just wanted to say I found your channel through Theme Park History`s Tokyo Disney Sea video. Great job.
I’m happy to say I’ve been able to ride each ride a few times with the exception of Backdraft I wasn’t interested. Time to head back with the kiddies to make new memories. 👍🏾 great video
Universal Studios was incredible. ET, Jaws, T2, Kong, Twister, Hitchcock, Back to the Future, Earthquake. While I still enjoy it, none of the replacements are as good as the originals
I went to Universal Orlando in the early 2000’s with my sister, her ex-boyfriend, and both of my parents. We went on the Back To The Future ride, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Twister, and of course T2 in 3-D. The last one that I was really into it. Both of my parents had fun on my reactions towards it. We did all the theme parks on that trip. I’m not into going on any roller coaster rides. We went to Sea World, NASA, and of course one of the Disney’s theme parks. I had fun back then. I’m not into theme parks now these days.
In the late 70’s early 80’s they had Battlestar Galactica, when the hero would shoot the Cylons they’d split in half, they also had an old bridge that would appear to start collapsing as the tram went over it and then the infamous “Ice tunnel” good times!!
Wow, I went on the new King Kong ride recently and this one looks so much better! By miles. The new one is mostly 3D screens with one admittedly really good King Kong animatronic at the end but you see it so briefly. The old one looks so much more immersive, I wish I could have gone on it.
BTTF ride was my absolute favourite. Especially with the train from the 3rd movie parked outside. Earthquake and Kong were close seconds though! Terminator was amazing when I was little, but I think they kept that open a bit too long and I got to go on it in 2012? and it’s age definitely showed.
Jaws ride was my life as a kid, I somewhat remember going on Kong and the back to the future ride. But as a wore out kid I was passed out during the terminator attraction. I just watched this going... wow... I slept through ALL that
1990s Universal was the shit. I remember the Kong Ride like it was yesterday...You can feel the heat of the fire and you get right next to his face. I have old pictures of the ride.Good times..Jaws to as well. I also liked Earthquake and that Twister. I wish at least those remained and back to the Future!!!!
That’s crazy I first went to Universal in 2002 in July or August… crazy to know that was the last year & the only time I’d been able to get on Kong-frontation. It was a fun ride
One nice thing about the T2 attraction in USJ was the crossover they did with Ring when I went in 2018 for Halloween Horror Nights. It fools you into thinking its the usual attraction. Before you enter the auditorium, you get quick flashes of Sadako video tape. After you take your seats in the auditorium, it looks like the usual performance is about to start until Sadako crawled out of the 3D screen and killed the guide. Then everything goes dark, cold and foggy. You can see Sadako pop up in random places killing random people in the audience and see her eyes staring down at you from the 3D screen. It was wild. I definitely want to do it again.
For 4 more retired Universal attractions, you got E.T. Adventure in HW and JPN, Back to the Future in all 3 parks, Earthquake: the Big One/Disaster in ORL, and Universal's House of Horrors in HW.
I was lucky enough to witness the jaws ride , and the T2 ride which made me cry of joy. I was a BIG fan of T2 at the time and coulsnt help my emotions lol

OH BOY WE ARE DA SAME,I think
Jaws it’s one of my all time favorite movies and remember going on it when I was just 4 and riding it one last time when I was 6 (maybe 7)
“Set to debut in spring 2020”
Me, watching from quarantine: Yeah good luck with THAT
I SAID THE SAME SHIT OH MY GOD
@@sosansational you suck
Yea
Well the attraction is now open
This is sad 1 year ago and quarantine
I can say that when I was younger, I was very fortunate to experience the original Jaws ride. I didn't remember much outside of the 'biting the boat' part for the longest time. I went to Universal Studios back in November 1991 as a kid and it wasn't working. Got a picture though with the hanging Jaws thingy inside his mouth.
My grandfather and my dad got to ride the original jaws just two months before it closed. Sadly they didn’t videotape any footage of it. They have a photo of them outside of the original ride which is enough for me.
please do post it if you're ever able!
Please share the footage when you get it transferred to digital! I've been dying to see what the original version of the ride looked like!
This was a tough video to watch. Those years were the heyday at Universal. As much as I love Potter, Jaws Terminator and Kong are iconic and should have never been removed.
Disney Therapy agreed it feels watered down now compared to this.

I feel the same way. I loved the mummy but kong was my childhood
I need a new Terminator attraction, I think a dark ride would be dope
I feel like universal has lost a bit of its magic recently they need more dark rides
There are 3 dark rides are at Universal and 3 at Islands.
they just need less screen-driven rides
focusing to much on harry potter
@@kendracarnes9123 yah
@@kendracarnes9123 it would be nice if they just had like a separate park for that.
BACK TO THE FUTURE THE RIDE, FTW!!!!
AND Back To The Future, FTW!!!
I still remember Kong ride,it was honestly something I would never forget. It’s was the best ride from my childhood
Me too...
The smell of bananas filled the air... I thought that detail was amazing
Jay Day I don’t remember the banana but do remember the fake tv new and how King Kong would pull the cart (this thing 🚠) closer and all I could see is his glossy eyes.
Same here!
I WAS SUPPOSED TO GO TO UNIVERSAL FOR SPRING, BUT THIS FLIPPING CORONAVIRUS STOPPED IT. **cri**
*hugs* It will be ok.
I was supposed to go to Walt Disney World but thanks to Coronavirus I can’t go
Isabelle Montville thank you
Stay safe everyone! And don’t worry, your trips were just postponed, you’ll definitely get to go sometime soon 💖 Sending you guys lots of pixie dust! ✨✨✨✨
Fastpass Facts Ok, thank you! We’re gonna go there this summer!
As much as I love Disney. I loved my time at universal.
Mudd1321 same here. There was actually a time where I liked universal more than Disney. (90’s early 2000’s)
I hate Disney as a company but I like wat they make
Universals parks are way better than disneys
I always loved Universal the best especially islands of adventure
Definitely have to disagree with you there. Maybe at one time but universal outside of harry potter, is pretty forgettable to me now without all the classic rides they used to have. Love that this vid was a bit longer than normal, there was certainly a lot to cover,. And the old footage was a real plus too!
I lost so much respect for universal when they got rid of jaws.
I haven't been back since that night
Now they have a bunch of dumbass screen rides
It also didn’t help that someone fell into the water and almost died. He sued Universal for 1M and I believe he won
Christopher Vento true true. All in all, that ride was a bit of a mess at the end but it’s still loved to this day
I heard of the jaws ride and was so excited to go but when my i told my dad he said that he went the year they shut it down😭
At least they still have Jaws in Japan, even if it's completely Japanese which is fine because I'm learning the language
I'm pretty sure people are learning Japanese just to go on that ride
You're really there for the spectacle. Knowing Japanese helps with the stories, but it's far from essential.
Plays jaws theme in japanese
Hes there for the hot asian women
I'm glad I got to take my kid to USH when I did before JAWS closed.
Universal just isn’t immersive enough they use too many screens.
Omg I hate that I feel like Disney does the screen rides better because they only have 2 screen rides that are great and well made. Universal just shakes you around. Disneyland makes it pop out at you and make it smell like where you are
That’s what my dad said
the new 2 rides seem to not be screen rides, maybe they'll finally start to make non screen rides.
I agree. Only mummy Jurassic, and the tram ride aren’t totally reliant on screen , keyword reliant
Idk that transformers ride was wildly immersive imo.
Kong, earthquake, Jaws, Terminator and back to the future were all amazing. The newer rides don’t compete
Twister
Yes they do
@@ceyciemateo9411 backdraft
I’m hoping that part 2 will give us the Jimmy Neutron ride, I remember going on it once as a kid.
I was more fond of the Hanna Barbera ride, those cartoons were my childhood. I'm not saying I hated JN, loves it.
I've been on Kongfrontation in Orlando! Greatest theme park ride I've ever been on. If I ever hit the lottery and hit it big; I'm going to have it remade just as it was for the entire public to enjoy once again.
I’ve always said they need to make a theme park with all the great retired rides! I would go yearly!
This brings back so many good memories of growing up in the 90s and going to Universal during the summer.
So happy I got to ride ALL of these. I was very lucky
In the late 70’s early 80’s they had Battlestar Galactica, when the hero would shoot the Cylons they’d split in half, they also had an old bridge that would appear to start collapsing as the tram went over it and then the infamous “Ice tunnel” good times!!
glad i was lucky enough to ride most of the rides all except kongfrontation
Nice to know that Universal still has some sense of what their flagship meaning is in 2020...
Wow, I went on the new King Kong ride recently and this one looks so much better! By miles. The new one is mostly 3D screens with one admittedly really good King Kong animatronic at the end but you see it so briefly. The old one looks so much more immersive, I wish I could have gone on it.
Lol the OG King Kong ride scared me so bad when I was little, I threw up when we got off and was leaving down the ramp to exit
I hope I can still go to jelly stone park with my bff
I miss T23D and Jaws so damn much.. I was lucky enough to be there on T23Ds last day and even took some of the glasses home
I remember that damn terminator ride. I was a little kid and it literally traumatized me. I closed my eyes the whole time cause I was so scared.
For 4 more retired Universal attractions, you got E.T. Adventure in HW and JPN, Back to the Future in all 3 parks, Earthquake: the Big One/Disaster in ORL, and Universal's House of Horrors in HW.
You guys planning on doing a part 2 video?
Yes!
I was lucky enough to witness the jaws ride , and the T2 ride which made me cry of joy. I was a BIG fan of T2 at the time and coulsnt help my emotions lol
My favorite Universal retired ride is Twister: Ride it Out! I miss it so much.
The only problem I have with the Jaws ride is that the movie was released in '75, not '74 as you said.
Sorry I'm a movie geek.
