6:25 Uh btw the squid isn't underwater, it is completely dry actually. There are two panes of glass in between each other to act like a small space where water and bubbles can be spouted out from. Sure it looks like it's underwater, but it's not. If it was underwater then its underweight flowy tentacles would not be able to move as fast and flowy as it shows in the video.
@@GlutzahnLP Yeah I know, the fact that they said that it was underwater is what I was pointing out as wrong though. Lucky you btw, I was looking at my youtube comment replies and I see you pop up. Nice
Mickey and Minnie were the ones that broke my heart. It’s not exactly the fact that they’re simply underwater. It’s the fact that they’re down there alone. Separated. Cold. Looking very lonely and so worn out. But they’re still smiling because they know we will try to get to them. Minnie’s pose suggests that she welcomes the company. Mickey clearly is reaching out. They’re smiling but time is too unkind to them. They would look less lonely and heartbreaking if they were in diving suits or something.
My fear is more rational as what scares me is the jagged gears, bolts, and other mechanisms that make them work. If you are in the water with them you could get cut, stuck, or sucked into these machines which is terrifying
Actually, the giant squid isn't underwater, there is a second panel of glass and in-between the two panes of glass there is water and bubbles go through it, giving the illusion of being underwater
Always disheartening when you hear of brilliant unique ideas that never came to light in favor of trendy cash grabs. A ride with mythical creatures would be classic and still cool to this day.
It really would’ve! But wasting the budget to make one Dino to try and get people excited for one movie? Would’ve been better if they added one Dino in with the mythical creatures running up to the release of the movie then removed later keeping the attraction true to the original idea
I figured someone here might appreciate my anecdote. I was on the Jungle Cruise and leaned over the side (which I should NOT have done) to take a photo. I heard some bubbles in the water. I looked down into the open mouth of an alligator, which hadn't been there a few seconds before. I SCREAMED. Our guide stopped, paused, asked if I was ok, then said, "Let's give her a hand, ladies and gentlemen! The first person to be legitimately terrified by the Jungle Cruise!" And if that wasn't enough, he stopped me after the ride to ask what had happened. He couldn't stop laughing!!! He even pulled out some sheet to write it down. As far as I know, my stupid self is in some Disney archive of idiot guests LOL -_-
its less a fear of the animatronics and more so they're moving around and could touch you if you were in the same pool except burt the bunyip, he's terrifying
My fear really isn’t animatronics underwater, it’s being in the deep ocean and looking down into the water and seeing some massive plane wreck or huge ship right below me. Even just writing about it gives me chills. Edit: hey everyone, I’m glad to see that there is such a nice discussion in these replies, it’s really interesting to see all these people sharing fears similar to mine. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for supporting me and letting me know that I am far from alone with this. Thanks, and have a good evening!
@@pyroshayniac1090 It depends on the size of the wreck and how deep it is for me. A fishing boat wreck or a wreck I know was sunk on purpose doesn't bother me. It's the ones in the deeper parts, the ones you need a deep sea sub to get to, the ones you can see from the surface but cant reach. The most terrifying for me is when I look down and see nothing. Just the empty blue.
*the scariest thing about this all isnt the animatronics/statues themselves, it’s the fact theyre just underwater, rotting away where you cant see it and if you were to be in that same water as it-* 😳 *it’s like going into a haunted house; its not the actual people/things scaring you (well at least for me), it’s what theyre doing or the setting their in*
The Nemo ride creeped me out when I realized their was 0 real fish in the entire ride and I was basically looking into a tank of mechanical things it was unsettling
Personally, I am not scared of swimming with the statues because they can’t move. The only thing that scares me is touching them. I am scared of swiping with the animatronics. I am scared of them touching me and getting their disgusting rotting mechanics on me.
I remember watching a video about the man who fell off the boat at the jaws ride. And God the thought of that happening to me is scaryyy. Like imagine you fall off the boat into the water and when you open your eyes a shark is coming towards you FULL speed
@@etch_e.sketched yeah! Awhile ago when universal had a ride dedicated to Jaws, a man fell out of the boat and the animontric shark was heading towards him, Everyone on the ride thought it was part of the show, so they started clapping. Apparently he was stuck their for an hour or 2
Exactly!! For that whole ride, the water was only four feet deep. But- where the shark shoots up with its mouth wide open, the water is (I think) ten feet deep. That’s where the guy fell in
@@luxx4 I heard that, that guy died of blood loss because he got hurt while being there. And there was other guy who was stuck in the water for like 2 hours because he was working on smt there and it suddenly turned on and he got electrocuted but everyone thought that it was manequien or smt.
The giant squid from The mysteries of the Nautilus sure is scary but it's actually not submerged. The iris windows is composed of an inner and outer pannel with water between them, a device below produce the bubbles to give the illusion we're underwater. The animatronic is in a dry, dark room behind that windows. I'm still sad that it no longer work well because it's one of my favorite disney animatronics.
omg ikr imagine swimming in the water without knowing there was an animatronic and you find the animatronic, get close, and you hear a weird machine noise and it TURNS ON AND STARTS MOVING.
I almost cried while watching this, I haven’t been this scared in a while, it’s just the thought of the ride malfunctioning and you have to swim out near the animatronics, omg I would actually pass out, submerged animatronics are my biggest fear.
on gooood me too, i just learned about that fear I’ve basically had since forever. Everytime I walk near fountains with mechanical moving stuff or near attractions involving water I just think about how I would just pass out or intentionally drown myself to avoid being close to these kind of things !!!
8:45 "And is completely submerged in water" I can't seem to find anyone calling this out, so I suppose I will. It's not underwater, it's a dry-for-wet effect. The animatronic isn't submerged at all, it's in a blacklit room behind a double-paned glass barrier that houses a layer of water for the bubble effects, simulating the idea that it's submerged. That being said, it certainly still draws out my personal submechaniphobia.
When I saw that, I was immediately confused because there is no way an animatronic that large can move that fast and fluidly from a full-stop. That's why the original Jaws ride sharks had so many problems. Thanks for confirming this for me
I can’t tell if I actually have submechanophobia. The images don’t exactly scare me but it certainly makes me uncomfortable and defensive(like my body is getting prepared for an attack or jumpscare). It also activated my paranoia 😫
There are different levels of Submechanophobia. If you only feel uncomfortable and fear something like a jump scare, you likely have a low level of it.
Hahaha that’s the only part that scares me. I can see pictures... I can walk by them or go past them in a boat or a submarine... Doesn’t bother me at all. But the idea of being in the water with them? Or swimming near them? I HATE that thought!!
I actually went snorkeling at Castaway Cay and saw the statues and submarine and I ended up having to stand on the Minnie statue for a sec to adjust my gear and I almost cried from having to touch it
Honestly what makes me the most upset is the amount of times Disney will just abandon the attractions for 10+ years before salvaging and it sucks because they could store them properly and make a mega museum. All of these beautiful designs and artworks just...rotting. it's so sad because the craft that was used to create Disney movies and attractions back before 2000 was so mystical and magical and all 2D coming to life in 4D then 3D animation started creeping in and now half of these attractions that weren't brand titles are being replaced by crap like frozen. It feels like the attractions are loosing their story book myths and legends roots with these stunning illustrations to make way for the main money maker movies that are heavily....merchandised....and that doesn't feel very magical anymore. When I was a kid I was able to go once to a Disney world for a holiday when some of these older attractions were still around. I wasn't old enough to appreciate the stuff I see in them now as an adult, I didn't pay attention to the details and stories, the aesthetics and illustrations all of the little nuances that I would pick up on now that I'm older and it sucks that I won't even be able to see this stuff in a museum to appreciate where the art and illustration that inspired me to become an artist came from. I was only able to go to a Disney world once when I was a child and it's the only time iv left my country on a holiday. I've always wanted to go back and make a list of the rides I went on and the attractions I saw when I was a kid and try and find them again, but little by little they are vanishing and being replaced and it's breaking my heart. That's not to say however there isn't any new attractions I would want to see, but I'm very sad that they aren't atleast even TRYING to preserve their more historical pieces. They really should have known better.
@@onyxth3ripper Sorry, I'm just sick of seeing anti frozen comments everywhere, especially ones like the one you saw me reply to cuz I consider them toxic and make me feel attacked.
I don’t think these scare me as much because they’re in a controlled area and were put there on purpose. The scariest ones to me are the shipwrecks, plane wrecks, etc in the middle of the ocean that aren’t supposed to be there, and probably have a horrible story that would go along with them, stories that we will probably never know.
My fear is more too some living creatures that made a home in a ship, car or plane wreck..i don't want to fight any territorial animal under the water..nope...
I don’t have submechanophobia, but some of the underwater animatronics are spooky as hell, especially when abandoned, they look like something straight out of FNAF.
I... Uh.... Didn't even realise that there was a term for for my discomfort towards sunken things. The giant squid at DLP is the only one on this list I've directly experienced. Loved the rest of the attraction, just not the cursed squid lol
Fun fact! 2000 leagues under the sea had sometimes hired real people to act as mermaids. Can you imagine swimming next to those animatronics. Gives me the chills.
reminds me of the first story in fnaf submechanophobia ( the book is too dang expensive so just go to a popular or smth and find an open version and read a little )
I had recently discovered this video a short while ago and ended up loving it! The phobia itself is terrifyingly cool, as we are able to see how water can damage or warp the "creatures" in these rides. Part of me wishes that we can see these old figures more, or at least, recreate them as a small sideshow (like a miniature aquarium filled to the brim with these antiques)
Strange how I recently discovered submechanaphobia and find it extremely uncomfortable, but my favourite franchise of anything ever is Bioshock... Weird
I think it depends on the situation. I'm totally fine with those statues that are submerged for decorative art that can let coral grow on it, and same with the idea of tossing old trams/trains/subway cars into the water for life to use them as shelter...but actually being in one of those while underwater would freak me out pretty bad. And I'm sure that "submerged" ride over in tokyo disneysea would give me some serious issues...I already have a fear of being under the water so, seems like a bad choice in ride for me xD But yeah, things like statues or the jungle cruise animatronics? Totally fine with that
Disney's 20'000 leagues under the sea was an amazing ride. Yes, some parts were scary. However, I always loved seeing the mermaids swim around next to the big sunken treasure chest
“they’re just animals so they’re not scary” the animatronics on splash mountain terrified me to the point i had a panic attack- just Automatonophobia tingz 🥴
Urggggh there's a bit where the bear is getting dunked repeatedly underwater and I hate it sm!! I always imagine what would happen if the ride broke down and they made us climb out amongst all the submerged animatronics and rails. Bleurgh. Also Pirates of the Caribbean.
I have nightmare about items submerged underwater. My fear of underwater objects started when I saw and soon caught a latex Frankenstein mask on my foot on a beach in the 70's a child. Then at Geauga Lake Amusement Park I was on a skyway ride and saw large stones painted to look like dead bodies in the lake. In 1985 I went to Walt Disney World as a 11 year old and rode the 20,000 leagues under the sea ride and saw a bunch of submerged animatronics. It did help me face my fear of submerged objects and I did find it very enjoyable.
I feel that Im more scared of falling in with those things. I already have a huge fear of deep waters just because you never know whats down there, but Ive read a few comments from other submechanophobia videos where they stated stuff like “Imagine getting stuck on the animatronic and being under there with it.” Just that scares me. The looks of them scare me. Eugh. Wonderful video though and its really neat to learn about this kinds of stuff!
I had no idea my fear had a name. I think the worst part is that some of these animatronics aren't just unnatural, but could cause serious injury. The Jungle Cruise has some hidden deep pits, with moving metal parts that would probably break anything that was there. Worse is the Jaws ride hinted at in the ending of the video. Hidden in the dark water, this 3-ton metal shark structure supposedly moved with the thrust of a 747 jet engine. It would move as programmed, and I wouldn't be able to see it coming as it crushed me. Terrifying.
i thought I was the only one who would have a literal heart attack if I fell in the water with the animatronics. ever since I was like 6-7 the angler fish in the Nemo ride scared me so much. just imagine being a worker who had to go down there and fix it, ughhhh it’s unsettling 😬
I see the Sea Serpent, I don't care if I am at the bottom of the sea, i get out of it. Doesn't matter if it's fake. I see a dog with eyes like those. I would die. But this is a masterpiece of FPF animatronic talk. Keep it up. Nice vid.
I’d like to see some pretty cool animatronic sea serpents like a giant animatronic sea serpent to help promote/advertise Morey’s Piers and its E-ticket white-knuckle thrill ride!
If memory serves me right, the squid in Mysteries of the Nautilus isn't actually underwater. It's in a dark room, with guests viewing it through a double-paned window filled with water and bubble effects.
Great work! I'm sad, that Disney ruled out and closed such iconic and exciting animatronics. Fascinating to see, what Disney created in those days in the 1950s to 1980s... A ride along flatscreens showing animated figures is not nearly the same exciting thrill which animatronics can convey. They have their own spirit. Wish Themeparks would come back to the good old days of practical effects and animatronics.
Now makes everything sense, I have nightmares about water and squids or octopuses since I was younger. I'm now 17 and still have those nightmares, but I also have a huge fascination for animatronics and water. Always are the squids behind glass in my dreams, once was Ursula there in a enormous aquarium and took my friends under water with air masks so they can breath.. The last time I had a dream about squids and water was a few months ago, I was at a fair and there was a tent. In that tent was a large aquarium with dark water and lightning. Once I look through the glass a tentacle passed by and pulled me into the water. When I was 8 years old I visit Disneyland Paris and walked through the attraction 'The mystery of the Nautilus'. I was so freaking scared of the squid behind the glass and everything makes scenes now why I have those nightmares about water and squids or octopuses! Sorry for my Google Translate English, I'm from the Netherlands! I wanted to share it with you guys, because this phobia is a real thing..
tanuki mix Just try to conquer your fear just like how Finn did it in an episode of Adventure Time and he was afraid of the ocean! You have thalassophobia which means you’re afraid of the ocean!
Carmine Crincoli yes but it’s also the fear of not knowing what lurks in the darkest parts of and not know what is under you. Just dark water in general. There is no way in heck I could conquer my thalassophobia OR my submechanophobia :/

I'm well known to make that joke periodically. And don't forget, the ninth wonder of the world can be found in Central Plaza...The backside of Walter!!!
If I’m face to face with one of these but still quite far away I’d be a little scared but not sticky up hairs scared. The fear of being FACE to FACE with one whilst it’s abandoned UNDER water. THATS what terrifies me.
I didn’t realize other people experienced this feeling!! I have always been terrified of the water where the finding Nemo ride is since before it got drained and I could see the turtle from undersea voyage. I always thought I’d fall in especially from the monorail entrance right above!
8:43 "Well, yes, but actually no"...The Disneyland Paris kraken, while an amazing effect and animatronic, isn't actually submerged in water, it's actually in a dark room behind specially made glass that produces the simulated bubble effect. (Honestly, though, that just makes the effect a bit more impressive.)
I'm not terrified of animatronics on land. But put them underwater and oh my g o d, I get goosebumps. It's mostly the idea of tripping and falling into the water, brushing against something not natural in the water... ugh
Just in time! I'm about to release a video of my own like this! Great stuff, folks! The more submerged machines the merrier!
Yaaas! Can’t wait to see it! It’s such an interesting thing to talk about 😁

I know! I didn't even realize I had this fear or that it existed!
Aw man...

Hell no.

@@user-oe1sy3kv8q "ight, imma head out"
Something about the idea of touching animatronics just doesn't sit well with me.
The fear I get when I see one one of them is suddenly falling into their pool of water and they come alive and chase you.
That’s my fear too.
Yeah that technically is my fear, my fear is that they could activate at any moment and hit you or as you said chase you....
That was always my fear on the jaws ride at universal. was always afraid that i’d fall off and the robot would just go rogue and try to eat me.
My fear is more rational as what scares me is the jagged gears, bolts, and other mechanisms that make them work. If you are in the water with them you could get cut, stuck, or sucked into these machines which is terrifying
Well, they won't come alive, because they're not real, and thankfully they're fixed and coded to doing specific things.
Actually, the giant squid isn't underwater, there is a second panel of glass and in-between the two panes of glass there is water and bubbles go through it, giving the illusion of being underwater
Thanks for that! I actually feel much calmer about it now!

Indeed
As far as I know, my stupid self is in some Disney archive of idiot guests LOL -_-
I'm so sorry about that but I also needed yo laugh. This could've happened to me

You put my feelings to words. Ship and plane wrecks underwater just horrify me. Especially ones where many people lost their lives.
@@pyroshayniac1090 It depends on the size of the wreck and how deep it is for me. A fishing boat wreck or a wreck I know was sunk on purpose doesn't bother me.

8:45 "And is completely submerged in water"
I can't seem to find anyone calling this out, so I suppose I will.
It’s weird how it can trick your mind into thinking it’s underwater, messes with my submechaniphobic head
When I saw that, I was immediately confused because there is no way an animatronic that large can move that fast and fluidly from a full-stop. That's why the original Jaws ride sharks had so many problems. Thanks for confirming this for me

I had recently discovered this video a short while ago and ended up loving it!

And I'm sure that "submerged" ride over in tokyo disneysea would give me some serious issues...I already have a fear of being under the water so, seems like a bad choice in ride for me xD
But yeah, things like statues or the jungle cruise animatronics? Totally fine with that

Oh god no, my heart is racing just imagining going on a ride with a giant squid animatronic, hell no!

Terrifying.
