people thought the lego movie was anti-business? Did they watch the movie? did they realize that president business was just the child's representation of his control freak father, and that the film was about promoting creativity? Or did they just read "the villain has 'business' in his name" and dedicate the two functioning brain cells they had to making a ruckus about it?
ehh, i'm not entirely sure how i feel about the premise of lego batman. i mean, the lego movie was all about creativity, and i think it threw batman in there as a representation of the hollowed-out supercilious husk that movies have made him into. making a superhero movie (one of the blandest and most oversaturated genre of film) about batman (one of the blandest and most oversaturated superheroes, next to superman) in the same format as the lego movie seems like it's taking a not insignificant amount of piss.
His character is cute- helpful and curious, kind with a little bit of cheekiness (When he puts his little foot on the cleaning robot's face- omg!) THAT is what makes a character cute as much as anything else: I'd seriously argue Quasimodo from Disney's Hunchback version to be an adorable character- which is of course the point of THAT movie, but minions don't need a point. Fuck it.
Just saying, The Lego Movie was meant to promote creativity, not discourage business. The only reason the main villain was named President Business was because that was how the child saw his father and adults, because he was a person that only followed instructions and did what he was told, much like many other adults. Children, on the other hand, run wild in their imagination, and don't adhere to rules. That was the point of the movie, not to say businesses are a bad thing.
People like that just over-analyze the movies to the point where anything could become offensive. Up? There's too much grief for your child to bear. Monsters Inc.? It's a monster movie! It'll give your kids nightmares! They don't even bother to watch the movie to find out what the movie is truly about.
Illumination can't even keep their own stories consistent. In the first Despicable Me, which I rather enjoyed, we see an old formula up on one of Gru's whiteboards showing that he created the Minions from corn kernels.
Yeah, I always assumed he made them. Plus, it just makes more sense. This whole Minions movie reads less like an official entry in the series and more like someone animated someone else's fanfiction.
I watched the Minion Movie and the "funny" scene where the three guys were dancing with long hair, I heard a baby cry when it started. NOT EVEN THE BABIES LIKE IT!
rusty diamonds Update: It’s amazing how things change in two years. Since then, I’ve had a new hatred for anti-SJWs and my comment has aged terribly. I thought over sensitive parents interfering with the media died down in the 2000s, with the 2010s equivalent being SJWs. As much as I _hate_ SJWs, I don’t hate them as much as over sensitive parents because kids deserve to be challenged, it’s what helps them grow. Sure, there _are_ examples where it’s taken _way_ too far (like Ringing Bell, though that movie has its cake and eats it too), or movies that are dark for the sake of being dark or try to be both dark and lighthearted and fail and only prove these idiots points (like The Nutcracker 3D).
fortune kinz If I ever have kids later on in my life, I'll start off small by maybe showing them some superhero films (PG-13 of course) and work from there. I'm not going to shelter them all their lives until they start school, because then they'd run the risk of suddenly being bombarded with all this violence that they've never seen before in their lives. That would probably traumatize a kid, or worse. So that's why I'll start off with baby steps, and progress from there.
Lego is literally a corporate juggernaut like what the fuck would be the reasoning behind making an "anti-capitalist" film? the elite class are just really paranoid about getting found out about I guess. Corporations own our news outlets so yknow
I still remember the scene in ratatouille where remi eats the strawberry followed by the cheese and then combines the two together, creating a symphony of new flavors. That’s the creative shit that sticks not yellow buttcheecks getting slapped together
It was one of those scenes I never thought much about as a kid, but as an adult I still remember it vividly for some reason. My guess is because it was such a simple idea that made A HUGE difference on how you see the world. Trying two different foods creates a whole new flavor like mixing two colors makes a new color. I went way too deep into this but what I'm saying is that creative way of thinking really sticks with you, sadly something I have not seen from any Illumination movie.....
For me it's Belle getting so scared of the Beast that she runs away in a blizzard, basically saying "fuck this, I'm out!" but she runs into trouble because of a pack of hungry wolves but can't fight back, Beast intervenes in a badass way(he picks one of the wolfie and roar at its face, then destroy the whole pack himself) But he gets seriously injured and Belle brings him back to his castle. He regains consciousness and starts giving Belle shit about the incident before and she has none of it! Then both calm down and Beast let her treat his wounds without bitching...😝 I know, it's not close from what you described but this scene always impressed me. Its like ten minutes but it contains more badassery and character development than the whole Minions movie!
@@anikmonette2140 agreed actually! It's been awhile since I last saw Beauty and the Beast but many things stuck out to me. I vaguely remember the chemistry between Belle and the Beast but I know it was FAR more interesting than any character "development" from the minions....
-Tell people the Lego Movie should be panned for having an anti-business agenda -Doesn't watch the movie and doesn't realize President Business is known that way because a kid would only know his dad goes and does 'business' during the day and so he names it after his dad. -Tells kids to watch minions hypontize three guards into stripping, exposing an unreasonable amount of hair, and slapping each other's asses dancing around to gibberish music. I'm sorry I want my kid to grow up smart, you know.
True story: I saw this in theatres, thought it was every bit if not more miserable to sit through than Ralph describes, and when it was over one of the of girls behind me -- maybe in their late teens -- said, in all seeming sincerity: "That was WAY better than Inside-Out!" Until that point I thought that the slow head turn of disbelief was just a cliche thing in movies, yet that was exactly what I did in that moment.

@@weezypeezy508 I completely agree. It's too bad cuz the first one was okay and I still don't mind watching it once in a while. In fact the minions were the main thing I ever disliked about it. @@renegade6578 Depends on which deaths you count on which man. You could for instance blame all WWII Deaths on Hitler, since he started the War. You could count the people that starved to Death as Kills for the Russian tsars who didn't build up the Russian industry and left the Country in a very poor state when the Bolsheviks took over. And partly also on the White Army and western mercenaries who burned down lots of Farms to not let the Soviets get food. You could also count all the deaths on God because without him there wouldn't even be people that could die! Atleast If you believe in God. My question is: How did you count the numbers of Deaths? Or did you just take them from somewhere in the internet without trying to find out if they are right simply because you are to lazy and like the picture they paint well enough so you don't research it?
Fun fact: The scene with the dancing guards is a reference to the musical, Hair. Hair is a super controversial musical and is full of swears, sexual terms and racial slurs. Because that's great for kids, right? Sure, Hercules had a reference to a Greek play with a lot of sexual themes, but at least that movie knew how to appeal to adults.
My dad defends these R-rated movie references (as I like to call them) by saying they're for the parents who were dragged by their kids to see the movie. From my point of view, he is defending pandering to adults - even though the same thing is already happening to kids.
@@bryancain2145 So, he defends pandering to adults in movies that panders to kids? He does know that pandering is the most creatively lazy way to base a movie, right; and also really desperate and pathetic?
This is exactly what I try to say to people. I've had people say to me, "Why are you being so harsh on a kid's movie?" Well, first off, children are our future. You need quality entertainment to show them what art is and what putting love into your craft looks like. Second, just because it's a kid's movie DOES NOT mean it has to be bad! Look at the work and care Jim Henson put into all of his projects? He never put pretty colors on screen just to make kids pay attention for five minutes. He actually knew what it meant to make something that children can watch and be inspired by.
I honestly feel kinda bad for animators at illumination. They clearly have talent, they can make some pretty visuals and lively animations but they're robbed by poor writers due to the companies bad directors, and are also weighed down by low budgets compared to pixar. I feel like the illumination team with new writers and a not so stingy lead director, could really do amazing things.
Well, Illumination is one of the worst mainly for what they do: they make Cheap and Safe movies to get the most out of so little effort. The first Despicable Me actually did have a little care and heart, while they gave FAR less effort to every other movie. They give more effort into researching how to pander to the Lowest Common Denominator abd advertising than into the true film. With such knowledge, their films mostly feel so clinical, as if it they were made by an algorithm.
I feel like Minions is a good movie - when you take the actual minions out of it. Literally everything about the minions aside from those dumb yellow creeps is great.
Apparently the employees are treated very well, so none of their movies are Sausage Party situations at least I’ve also seen concept art for their films and freelance art from people who work at Illumination and it honestly looks pretty good Who knows maybe one day Illumination will make their own SPIDERVERSE or something
I went to my four-year old neice's birthday party last summer. The party was minion themed, and we watched the minion movie. Of course it was awful, but my neice liked, and I love her so I didn't say anything. But then we got to the dancing guard scene and I made a joke to my cousin (who's the same age as me) about how stupid it was. And he got mad at me, and said that the minion movie was his favorite kids movie. WHAT THE F*CK! out of all of the brillant and creative kids movies ever made; The Lion King, Wall-e, How to Train Your dragon, this was his favorite. I love my cousin but sometimes I worry about him.

There is nothing more vile than Minion memes. You know what? I don't think it's The Lego Movie that's from Satan, I think it's those awful fucking Minion memes. They're subtly taking a shit into the mouth of comedy.
Also, did you know that "minions" couldn't happen in the despicable me universe, because in a spin-off short film, the minions are referred to as genetically modified mutants (lab created).
iloveteaalot also the film establishes that they will follow the most powerful villain they find which canonically means that minions probably helped run the holocaust camps or soviet gulags in the despicable me verse
No they didn't because they run away to that ice cave during the time Napoleon was around. They stayed there until the 60s. The filmmakers did this on purpose, I guess, to avoid the "minions probably helped Hitler" part.
I actually enjoyed Despicable Me, the minions were only there for 1/5th of the movie and worked, right now I'm being forced to watch the minions movie and I want to gouge my eyes out
Danny 6798 At least Despicable Me had plot and characters with dynamics that I can enjoy watching. Minions is literally 90 minutes of commercial for the company brand...
Honestly, the film establishing that the Minions are more or less indestructible kind of lowers the stakes. No matter how violent it is, all dents will buff themselves out and they'll be fine in a minute. That might work in a Looney Tunes cartoon, but not in a movie that requires stakes to drive a good plot.
Hear me out folks! Snap Crackle and Pop > The Minions In all seriousness, these elves from Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal are superior than the yellow tic tacs in my opinion!

I remember when the Shaun The Sheep Movie was out in cinemas and I really wanted to go because Shaun The Sheep was a big part of my childhood and I still really liked the show but my mother said no because it was for babies and there was gonna be lots of children in the cinema even though I was like 9 I think at the time, so when it came out on DVD my mother bought it for me and I loved it, I still do to the day but instead of watching Shaun The Sheep Movie, my brother (who is older than me) and my mother went to watch The Minions and they both loved it. Oh yeah and the same exact thing happened again but with Storks in 2016, I didn't love the movie as much as Shaun The Sheep but I still enjoyed it.
Something similar happened to me when my dad poked fun at me after he learned that I went out to watch the LEGO Movie 2 when it first came out in theaters. A few months later in a phone call he talked about how he saw The Secret Life of Pets 2 and how hard the little bunny character made him laugh.
Sean the Sheep was really good. Even if it wasn’t the best, it blows Minions and Secret life of pets and all other cheap lazy movies like that out of the water. The past few years or so have made me so disappointed in the human race...
Similar thing to me. My dad makes fun of me for watching animated action movies meanwhile he watched after earth (if you haven't heard of it. It's not a good movie.) And he loved it dsspite the cheesiness to it. Parents are hypocrites at times.
Since the Shaun the Sheep animations are all voiceless, they can be distributed around the world but because of that, they need to be clear in their story-telling and in the shorts, they are brilliant at this (still haven't seen the film though sadly). Aardman work hard at their craft.
Ugh, I adore all of your videos, but this one, by far, is my favorite. What you say in the end never ceases to leave me tearing up at least a little bit because of how genuinely true and sincere your words are. You can hear the passion and life you have for film, and it's a passion I wish more people had in the world so as to let creativity shine through, not only giving us beautiful imagery in whichever way it may come, but to also leave an impact on our lives, possibly even change some of us as people for better in the future.
Dear lord, that montage where they're talking about the Lego Movie. The reason he's called president business is kind of explained at the end of the movie. Its a story practically told from the perspective of a kid whose father cares more about work and keeping everything boring than having fun with his son.
27:00 This little speech really means so much. I remember when I was a kid, I watched animated films just to laugh or to pass the time. For a lot of time, but i saw people on the internet praise a movie called "Spirited Away" and I was immediately pulled in by the animation and aesthetics. I had a chance once to watch the movie, and I when I did, I fell in love with it. Everything is made with so much heart, and what you said "when a kid feels a connection with a film, thats when they transition to a person", even tho i'm a 18 year old dude, somehow I still feel a connection with Chihiro. Everytime I watch that movie I cant help but cry. All i'm saying is that movies with heart, for kids, matter so much, and i'm scared they will ever stop making them, I but I hope for the best.
Landa I had a similar experience with Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke. The animation and story pulled me in, and by the end I was completely engaged by the characters and their interactions, and I was able to care about what was happening. When I finished watching it, I felt as if I was a changed person. That’s the magic of animation. It can make you care for something that doesn’t even exist. It’s beautiful. That’s why Princess Mononoke is my favorite movie. No, it’s probably my favorite piece of art I’ve ever seen.
I feel you dude. I worry about that too, but as long as companies like Pixar and DreamWorks exist, alongside Studio Ghibli and some other small studios that produce works of art like Laika, the good stuff will still exist. :) I just hope Illumination doesn't set the norm for animated movies to be silly, cheap, and fun yet make as much if not more than the actual good animated films.....
If a child ever falls into my care theyll grow up watching a very carefully selected set of content, which will include a lot of late 1990s early 2000s western animation, japanese animation (oh my dear Giblhi Studio), Steve Irwin and Bob Ross. Considering how parents care progressively less about their kids education and growth, Ill be considered a control freak, but so be it Which doesnt mean Ill censor anything, just that ill introduce the good stuff
I love the concept of scarlet betraying the minions. Like imagine these timeless entities. They exist only to serve the most evil. The “evil people” definitely would have some deep understanding that if they seek to serve you, that you’re not only the most evil, but you have free, undying and faithful labour for the rest of your life. Then she tries to kill them because...? Plot reasons? Also the minions committed war crimes against the innocent people in both world wars and definitely participated in the numerous genocides in human history
Omnical Nah, Illumination wrote them to go into exile after the Napoleonic Wars so that they didn’t have to deal with people saying that. Because god forbid you challenge children to think for themselves, right?
I know you posted this video 3 years ago, but... As an animation student in my final year I have to say, your conclusion about films and what they can do when the creators give a fuck really touched my heart. I've been feeling shit about animating because of dumb college politics, life, late nights, long hours, shit food and just years of exhaustion. But I'm so close to being able to do what you spoke of, what I started studying for. So thanks, Ralph
Me too. Hats off to Pixar and DreamWorks for leading the animated movie industry down the deeper and more sophisticated side of animation. They'll always have my utmost respect....
There's a difference between "Adorable cute" and "Annoying cute." Adorable cute is something that isn't screaming, whining, laughing obnoxiously, ect, like cats, seals, pugs. Then Annoying cute, is the oppisite of that! Case in point, Minions.
Hear me out folks! Snap Crackle and Pop > The Minions In all seriousness, these elves from Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal are superior than the yellow tic tacs in my opinion! Okay, I know Snap, Crackle and Pop don’t count as much since they are cereal mascots, but at least they have something worth remembering about them, overall. You can tell who these elves are just by looking at them. But, the Minions’s designs are pretty much bland and uninteresting. They even look the same! At least with the aforementioned elves, they have a different design to tell Snap, Crackle and Pop apart in the Rice Krispies commercials. But with the Minions, how can I tell which is which if they virtually look the same!?

Yes without a timestamp there's no way anyone will ever know why you're referencing a reference because obviously nobody can pay any attention to anything while it's actually happening
The first Despicable Me was pretty good. To bad the quality got worse with each movie. Gru was neat, Vector was cool and it was just a cute movie overall.
The two of these characters looked interesting. Such a shame that these vomit, ear bleeding abominations have to take over in storm. And sadly I used to like these when I was younger. A very cringy era it was.
True story. I watched this movie in a theatre, and it was one of the most painful movie experiences I had in a theatre that year (even it it didn't even make my top 10 worst films list -- I did see 125 movies that year including, "50 Shades", "Fant4stic", "Unfriended", "Jupiter: Ascending", "Hot Pursuit", "Vacation", "Pan", "Jem and the Holograms"... gawd, what an awful year). However, what made this particularly painful was that after the movie ended, one of two the mid to late teen girls who were behind me says: "That was WAY better than 'Inside-Out'!" I never knew that the slow-head-turn-of-disbelief thing was actually a thing until I did it to them right then and there.
Normally I'd say that people's opinions are valid as long as they don't force them onto other people.... But for this girl, we're going to need twenty sporks, some hallucinogenic drugs and a place where the Geneva Convention doesn't apply.
Oh damn that's the most insulting thing I've ever heard. Minions better than INSIDE OUT?!?! I try to respect other people's opinions, but we have a problem right here.....
My dad’s cousin actually designed some of the characters in Norm of the North. I got to see him about 2 months ago and when we talked about it he said it was one of the worst things he made and was glad they didnt credit him in the sequels.
I really hate the way Hollywood treats animation. It's such a shame that gems such as Inside Out and Coco seem to only come once or twice a year, and most of the year we're forced to sit through kid-pandering crap like Minions, Secret Life of Pets, and The Emoji Movie.
GetShr8kt Illumination Animation post-Despicable Me 1 represents everything I hate about modern animated movies. Their movies are safe-space, pandering garbage...and the fact we had to lose 2D animation to make room for stuff like this...😒
Lauren210 check out the video called “how rugrats killed disney 2d animation” by rebeltaxi since that video explains about how the cheaply made 2d animated films based on popular cartoons at the time and that was also the time when cg animated films were new and exciting but then they got overshadowed by cg animation due to the over saturation of those films i mentioned. and also not just that but another reason i think that also killed 2d animation in theaters is how poorly treated they were when it comes to marketing and scheduling like the infamous example is the beloved classic, the iron giant didn’t do well at the box office because executives didn’t even bother to advertise it and the princess and the frog was well received and did ok at the box office but not a gigantic hit since it came out at the wrong time since it was released before the highest grossing movie of all time, james cameron’s avatar. so yeah that’s why i think 2D and hand drawn animation died out in theaters here in the u.s. and as i wanted to be a writer, director, animator and artist. i am also one of those people that wanted to bring back hand drawn animation since CGI animated films are not that special anymore. and i also wanted to bring animation to more genres outside of comedy. like horror, drama, action, thriller, etc. into mainstream. and i also wanted to stand out from the crowd edit: the last 2d animated film we saw from disney is Winnie the Pooh and it faced stiff competition to harry potter and the deathly hallows part 2. so they give up on hand drawn and move on with cg. edit #2: i am not against Pixar or Dreamworks, i loved Pixar and liked Dreamworks. i am just saying that i loved 2d hand drawn animation way more than CG animation, same goes to stop motion animation
That's one of the two reasons I vastly prefer anime over western 2D and 3D animation; it's more like Western live action, in that content for _all_ ages is produced and coexists for any audience to find and watch what suits it. Western 2D and 3D animation, on the other hand, is made for kids and adolescents. And that's it. Yes, *_RARE_* exceptions, sure, but generally that's it. (The other reason is that I just don't really like most Western 2D and 3D animation styles.)
Gems? Coco and Inside Out? Really? While the animations, designs and everything visual is good, they have the safest stories ever with tropes we've seen millions of times already and characters we've seen thousands of times. Inside Out tries to be smth new, but in the end it's the same thing we've seen already. I'm not saying they're bad, but they're not the movies most people will be talking about in 5-10 years (smth like Lion King, Monster Inc etc). It will be mostly "Oh those movies were a thing"
The dumbest thing about this movie is they have been created since the beginning, but in one of the shorts there was a video that said Gru made them. The other is that Gru looks older despite being younger in DM1 and that was before he became bad guy. Minions is just trying to confuse kids and thinks we are stupid. I think it should have been a short film for Despicable Me 3 where we see Gru creating them. THE END
10:53 The joke is that each of the characters are innately drawn to rooting for the contestant that physically resembles themselves. In other words, the joke is that minions are racist.
Puss wasn't comedic relief. He was a fleshed out character that stood out the same way as Shrek and Donkey. It would make sense that he got something. The Penguins in Madagascar are close to the same thing, too, and they worked well, but they also had their own character. If your only trait is being the relief, you shouldn't be a main character.

imagine if this movie was good. like, not just good, but toy story good. wouldn't it be amazing to hear about a team truly caring about something they could've so easily half-assed? wouldn't it be cool to sit down in the theater, and have your expectations thrown out the window? imagine realizing that this thing that everyone hates actually redeemed itself! but no, we got this shit.
I am a child (11 years old, to be 12 Nov. 30th) and I personally find it sad that all of my relatives love Minions. Minions don't really have any traits that make them lovable. In fact, the only traits that they have are that they're shallow, and that they're cute. They're worthless. I honestly could go through Despicable Me without the Minions (I am aware that they could be good in small doses, but, through how many times I've seen them, I feel otherwise.) I'm just tired of it, and only watched Minions because I was forced to go. Please, this needs to stop.

Instead, the ideas of stagnation, totalitarianism, and close-mindedness are attacked as harmful constructs that often plague corporate entities, and THIS is a much more realistic, positive, and meaningful message than just "anti-business".

Several thousand Bees that's because everyone is an idiot
lego movie is amazing.
Lego batman is too
ehh, i'm not entirely sure how i feel about the premise of lego batman.
i mean, the lego movie was all about creativity, and i think it threw batman in there as a representation of the hollowed-out supercilious husk that movies have made him into. making a superhero movie (one of the blandest and most oversaturated genre of film) about batman (one of the blandest and most oversaturated superheroes, next to superman) in the same format as the lego movie seems like it's taking a not insignificant amount of piss.
Several thousand Bees yeah. The lego batman movie sort of is supposed to be a poke at batman movies. It all comes from a a root of irony
It's a really funny comedy that literally makes fun of all Batman tropes around.
WALL-E is cuter than a Minion, because he has character.
He is cuter because he doesn't look like a yellow turd or an anthropomorphic twinkie.
Exactly!!

Illumination can't even keep their own stories consistent. In the first Despicable Me, which I rather enjoyed, we see an old formula up on one of Gru's whiteboards showing that he created the Minions from corn kernels.
That actually would've worked in terms of a story of connection... TOO BAD THEY FUCKED UP!!!!
In one of the shorts a group of minions are shown an instruction video that literally says that Gru cloned the minions with modified DNA.

fortune kinz If I ever have kids later on in my life, I'll start off small by maybe showing them some superhero films (PG-13 of course) and work from there. I'm not going to shelter them all their lives until they start school, because then they'd run the risk of suddenly being bombarded with all this violence that they've never seen before in their lives. That would probably traumatize a kid, or worse. So that's why I'll start off with baby steps, and progress from there.

Depends on which deaths you count on which man.
Absolutely. I want that movie

Internet XD I mean it's not the worst in my opinion, I just thought it wasn't amazing. It was still good by the standard of the kids films, and especially better than anything Illumination has made. And, in my opinion Pixar has made some great movies. UP and Wall-E are really touching films. They remind me that I can feel feelings, and that's nice.

inside out was kinda babyish in the way it explained stuff, but it was cute. it wasnt really deep or meaningful enough for me to watch it again tho, and the adventure was just a huge metaphor, so if the metaphor isnt interesting, the movies kinda basic
@@brandonweatherstone2380 Interesting thing to know would be if he laughed due to the rabbit or due to Kevin Hart being a bunny.

Since the Shaun the Sheep animations are all voiceless, they can be distributed around the world but because of that, they need to be clear in their story-telling and in the shorts, they are brilliant at this (still haven't seen the film though sadly). Aardman work hard at their craft.
1Thunderfire a great film. One of my favourites
it’s pretty good. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Not the best movie in the world or anything but you will get pleasure from it

I just hope Illumination doesn't set the norm for animated movies to be silly, cheap, and fun yet make as much if not more than the actual good animated films.....
If a child ever falls into my care theyll grow up watching a very carefully selected set of content, which will include a lot of late 1990s early 2000s western animation, japanese animation (oh my dear Giblhi Studio), Steve Irwin and Bob Ross. Considering how parents care progressively less about their kids education and growth, Ill be considered a control freak, but so be it
Which doesnt mean Ill censor anything, just that ill introduce the good stuff
There's a video of this movie without the minions, and it's actually really good.

Also the minions committed war crimes against the innocent people in both world wars and definitely participated in the numerous genocides in human history
how do people claim minions are cute?
they are creations of evil, made to serve the most evil thing
which means they definitely served hitler
Omnical
Nah, Illumination wrote them to go into exile after the Napoleonic Wars so that they didn’t have to deal with people saying that. Because god forbid you challenge children to think for themselves, right?
@@fatalduchessdineondirt6629 yea minions can go a kill innocents and villains but god forbid that they accidentally kill Hitler when they meet him

@Betacrape okay....?
Not even gonna lie, the end of this review made me a little misty-eyed
There's a difference between "Adorable cute" and "Annoying cute." Adorable cute is something that isn't screaming, whining, laughing obnoxiously, ect, like cats, seals, pugs. Then Annoying cute, is the oppisite of that! Case in point, Minions.
Hear me out folks!
Snap Crackle and Pop > The Minions
In all seriousness, these elves from Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal are superior than the yellow tic tacs in my opinion!

Words cannot express how satisfying the first 5 seconds of this video was.
However, what made this particularly painful was that after the movie ended, one of two the mid to late teen girls who were behind me says:
"That was WAY better than 'Inside-Out'!"
I never knew that the slow-head-turn-of-disbelief thing was actually a thing until I did it to them right then and there.
Whoever those teens are should be held hostage
Normally I'd say that people's opinions are valid as long as they don't force them onto other people....
But for this girl, we're going to need twenty sporks, some hallucinogenic drugs and a place where the Geneva Convention doesn't apply.
Oh damn that's the most insulting thing I've ever heard. Minions better than INSIDE OUT?!?! I try to respect other people's opinions, but we have a problem right here.....
firefly4f4 Wow, the emotions inside that girl’s head must be REALLY messed up.
Woah woah woah! TEENS said that?
My dad’s cousin actually designed some of the characters in Norm of the North. I got to see him about 2 months ago and when we talked about it he said it was one of the worst things he made and was glad they didnt credit him in the sequels.

@@xedrickOG really?
@@farkbett699 don't you love it when people of a specific generation hate people of other generations for no real reason?
I really hate the way Hollywood treats animation. It's such a shame that gems such as Inside Out and Coco seem to only come once or twice a year, and most of the year we're forced to sit through kid-pandering crap like Minions, Secret Life of Pets, and The Emoji Movie.
GetShr8kt Illumination Animation post-Despicable Me 1 represents everything I hate about modern animated movies.
Their movies are safe-space, pandering garbage...and the fact we had to lose 2D animation to make room for stuff like this...😒
Lauren210 check out the video called “how rugrats killed disney 2d animation” by rebeltaxi since that video explains about how the cheaply made 2d animated films based on popular cartoons at the time and that was also the time when cg animated films were new and exciting but then they got overshadowed by cg animation due to the over saturation of those films i mentioned. and also not just that but another reason i think that also killed 2d animation in theaters is how poorly treated they were when it comes to marketing and scheduling like the infamous example is the beloved classic, the iron giant didn’t do well at the box office because executives didn’t even bother to advertise it and the princess and the frog was well received and did ok at the box office but not a gigantic hit since it came out at the wrong time since it was released before the highest grossing movie of all time, james cameron’s avatar. so yeah that’s why i think 2D and hand drawn animation died out in theaters here in the u.s.
and as i wanted to be a writer, director, animator and artist. i am also one of those people that wanted to bring back hand drawn animation since CGI animated films are not that special anymore. and i also wanted to bring animation to more genres outside of comedy. like horror, drama, action, thriller, etc. into mainstream. and i also wanted to stand out from the crowd
edit: the last 2d animated film we saw from disney is Winnie the Pooh and it faced stiff competition to harry potter and the deathly hallows part 2. so they give up on hand drawn and move on with cg.
edit #2: i am not against Pixar or Dreamworks, i loved Pixar and liked Dreamworks. i am just saying that i loved 2d hand drawn animation way more than CG animation, same goes to stop motion animation
Ironically, Disney now owns Avatar, so take that!
The MOST satisfying first 6 seconds in a video. Thank you.
That’s why there should be an alliance like the FBI bent on killing every minion in the world and in the movies.
That should be the next premise of the next minion movie
The dumbest thing about this movie is they have been created since the beginning, but in one of the shorts there was a video that said Gru made them.
The other is that Gru looks older despite being younger in DM1 and that was before he became bad guy.
Minions is just trying to confuse kids and thinks we are stupid.
I think it should have been a short film for Despicable Me 3 where we see Gru creating them.
THE END
@Myrtle Jones The smart ones aren't that smart.
10:53 The joke is that each of the characters are innately drawn to rooting for the contestant that physically resembles themselves. In other words, the joke is that minions are racist.
Didn't Planet Sheen teach us that comedic side characters should NEVER be a main focus?
apparently not to hollywood
well puss in boots was good
Puss wasn't comedic relief. He was a fleshed out character that stood out the same way as Shrek and Donkey. It would make sense that he got something. The Penguins in Madagascar are close to the same thing, too, and they worked well, but they also had their own character. If your only trait is being the relief, you shouldn't be a main character.

Wow, the guy who thought the Lego movie is anti business reeeeeally missed the point
+Chris P Well, I wouldn't be surprised that he would think that, but it did have a message about being creative and that business wasn't always the answer. Besides, even when they did criticize business, they didn't overly do so, and they even showed that Emmet and his team had to work together, and he referenced the methods that business did to get the job done.
@@thefirstbourne149 Exactly. The main character in The Lego Movie openly admits that total anarchy is pointless and gets you nowhere, meanwhile using the same strategies that major corporations use can take a bunch of disorganized idealists and turn them into an organized creative force for good. Organization and even capitalism are not directly vilified unto themselves. Instead, the ideas of stagnation, totalitarianism, and close-mindedness are attacked as harmful constructs that often plague corporate entities, and THIS is a much more realistic, positive, and meaningful message than just "anti-business".
Wasn't it "anti-business" just because it was told by a little kid who hated that his dad was so occupied with his job as a business man or something like that?
@julie martinez Ahh, that's right! The father owned all those legos and wanted to glue them all in place to "preserve" his childhood rather than share it with his own kid.
