      Hi @ny6901!
      There for sure is a lot of options when you go to edit a contact card (vcard). I think over the years it's just a lot of choices that have been added. Add what is important to you and makes sense.
      I usually edit the Template within he Settings of Contacts so that I have important information like birthdays, anniversaries and such. Other than that, it's personal preference.
      Ah..jabber. Jabber was/is a messaging platform that has been around a long time. Think AOL instant messenger, if you ever used that!

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  2 года назад

      Hi @Julie C Walker!
      The process would be slightly different depending on the device...On a Mac, it's very easy. You can create a group in the Contacts App, then just drag contact cards to that group. This will be the best way.
      On an iPhone or iPad, the only way i've been able to put someone in a group is by creating a new contact while in the current group that's selected. It's a big pain. I wish there was a way to add an existing contact to a group on a mobile device, but Apple has some improvements to make...
      I'll link a helpful guide below that may help further!

I was trying to catch onto each category. Yet I was still in a state of confusion. Clearly you know exactly what you are doing. My request is to have you crate a teaching video for slooooow to catch on seniors. In the meantime I will watch this over and over. I hope my switching back and forth will not be in vain. Remember we seniors are achey and just this side of Alzheimers. Could you slow it down even a bit more so I can catch on to your great, concise teaching. I'm looking forward to that as I love technology. I just need to catch on. Thanks for considering us.

      Hi @Brigitta Perez!
      So as far as being able to merge contacts directly on icloud.com, there isn't currently any way to do that from Apple that I'm aware of. You are able to merge contacts through the Contacts app on the Mac, but not from a mobile device or icloud.com.

      Hi @A Reid!
      Off the top of my head I do not know of any, but after a little research there seems to be an abundance of Apps available in the iOS App Store that claim they're able to merge duplicate contacts directly on your iPhone/iPad.
      If you do a search for "merge contacts" in the App store, you'll find many that you could possible try. I would recommend to read reviews and look at a few options.
      The other option would be to use someone else's computer. You can easily log into outlook.com or iCloud.com and download the contacts and merge too.

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  2 года назад

      Great question @nancy c.
      iCloud email account would not send any emails out letting you someone know you got a new email or cell phone number. Usually each contact information is specific to each individual's device. So if you were in my contacts and I got a new cell phone number, new address and new email, I would have to manually communicate that to you either through a new Text, email, or phone call.

      Contacts can be tricky and stored in multiple places!
      Just having contacts turned on within the iCloud settings is not enough...you want to make sure that contacts are going to the proper place when contacts are created.
      Go to Settings > Contacts > Default Account and double check that both your iPad and iPhone are set to the same. Sometimes the default location is a secondary email account or sometimes just stored locally on the device itself.

    You went too fast on how to create a group on iCloud, I can’t find the place you went too. Also is there a way to sync different accounts into one

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  2 года назад

      Hi @Tim Kasper! Yeah, I may have done that quickly as I probably wasn't focused on it at that moment.
      It is incredibly unintuitive of how to create groups within iCloud Contacts in my opinion.
      First off, I have not found a way to create a contact group for iCloud Contacts on an iPhone or iPad. So if you want a group to show up there, you need to create it either on icloud.com or on a Mac.
      I'll link a two useful Apple Support articles below on steps how to create a contact group on iCloud.com and also on a Mac. By doing this, the group will then show up on iPhone/iPad.
      Create and manage groups of contacts on iCloud.com
      support.apple.com/en-sg/guide/icloud/mmfba73c71/icloud
      Create and change groups in Contacts on Mac
      support.apple.com/en-sg/guide/contacts/adrb3280fe91/mac
      As far as you question related to sync different accounts, not really. As they are different email accounts, they're usually different companies and services. A work around would be to export information from one account and then import it into another different account.
      I have a video that discuss this concept with examples that may be helpful.

    How to sync google contacts with iCloud

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  3 года назад

      Hey @Vishal Sheth! So you really wouldn't sync google contacts with iCloud...as each are their own service...
      When you create a Google account, it is usually an email ending in @gmail.com and with that it has its own calendar, contacts, notes and whatever other features it comes with.
      When you create an iCloud account, the email usually ends in @icloud.com and it too has its own calendar, contacts, notes, etc.
      So really it's like having two different services. They don't sync with each other across.

      You bring up a good point. As I live in the US, I don't have much of experience with numbers not in this country.
      So even if you change the preferences in Contacts to be the layout of U.K. it still has issues?
      One thing I have noticed that I wish Apple would do is when I use gmail contacts, they have a little flag next to each phone number and address that you're able to quickly change the format. I think that would be extremely helpful!
      Sorry not much help on this one, but thanks for watching and I hope something was helpful!

      Hey @Prism Black! I can respect your opinion! My brother would probably agree with you! He's tried to make the switch to Apple and is back at his Android. It all comes down to the user anyway and what they enjoy using and what makes sense to them!
