how do you setup this week smart list? I'm not able to do that based on date :( I'd love to have a smart list with task for today, this week (except today) and next week. this doesnt seem to be doable. any hints? thank you
Hello! I appreciate the video. How can I access the smart lists for This Week or This Month? Using Relative Range → In the Next Week or Month doesn't seem to provide accurate segmentations for the current week or month.
You shouldn't really need to do that. The idea with the Time Sectors is there is the manual input from you. Each week, you do the weekly planning and decide what can be or needs to be brought forward. Trying to use tech to do that for you will result in a mess, as a lot of what we think needs doing doesn't need doing after all.
love the smart lists but not sure but is there a way to create one to show tmrw's tasks only? (I know how to create the filter in Todoist as i am trying out Reminders fully now). Thank you.
No. However, you do have the Scheduled list, which will show you what is scheduled for tomorrow (and into the future). It's organised by date so it's very easy to see that list.
Does anyone know how to create or set up the inbox category shown in this video? I only have "today, scheduled, all, flagged, completed, and assigned to me" - but no inbox.
That is, where those criteria do NOT include anyting "up to" those timeframes. So, a Smart List to show only Next Week's reminders without also showing this week's? Thanks!
Yeah wondering about something similar. I’d like to see just the running week’s reminders (Mon to Fri) and then switch to a kanban view at will. Todoist does that.
I don’t have a video on this, but I suspect you will not be able to do that because Apple thinks the schedule view gives you that information already. (Although probably in a format most people don’t want)
You can do it by creating smart lists filtering by date, using specified range. However, as part of your weekly set up, you would have to change the dates every week for the this week and next week folders and monthly for the this month and next month folders so it’s not convenient but it does work. I tried using the relative range and that won’t work because the choices aren’t available to filter like one would want.
@@maigallop Yes that sounds like a lot of work though doesn’t it. Todoist does a decent job of this through its Upcoming view when combined with Boards, so I finally switched to it. I don’t think any other app does this, although there are still a few I haven’t tried.
I see a lot of Todoist and Apple Reminders content in your videos recently Carl, but you mentioned in the face off between them you'd concluded to stay with Todoist. Are you using both currently then? As these Apple Reminders screen captures appear to be live, working tasks! I'm currently setting up Apple Reminders for both work and life, liking the integrations so far and feel Apple will continue to improve the app's usefulness.
I do these videos to help people better understand Reminders (or Todoist, Evernote, Apple Notes etc). My own personal system hasn’t changed for almost ten years and it’s unlikely to change as it works. Reminders is great, but all I use it for on a day to day basis is as my family grocery list .
I see, makes sense. Thanks for the reply (and great content). Out of interest do you use Todoist for full project management or something like Clickup/Asana/Notion etc etc? :) @@Carl_Pullein
Hi Carl, thank you very much for sharing your tips on how to use Apple reminder. But one thing confuses me that I don't know how to quick capture tasks on macOS like using cmd+space on Todoist. So could you please show me that how to capture tasks as quick as possible? (BTW, I know Siri is a good solution, but have another way to do so?)
You are right - tagging is very powerful. Then ... how come tags are not part of Mail on Mac ??? (Yes there was an add-on you could buy called Mailtags - but it was always very buggy and is no longer supported).
@@Carl_Pullein Yes. And after dealing with the issue in an email it goes into ’archive’. But the information could relate to for instance a tradeshow I might attend 3 months from today. So I will tag it with the name of the show. If I go I can pull all emails with that tag. If I receive 100 emails in a day there will be 20 tags I would set. But I have no way …
I love your videos! Reminders has been perfect for my needs and your explanation was spot on! I have a question. I've recently been using a digital planner hosted in Goodnotes. I know that people have synced their digital planners to Apple Reminders. However, I just can't figure out how it is done. Can you help me?
No, that would be correct, as it could compromise your privacy. You could easily accidentally find tasks in there of a personal nature you do not want to share.
I'm still a bit confused: when do I use lists? When to use folders? When tags? When smartlists? ......It's so overwhelming and sometimes feel like a tool of the tool.
It's best not to overthink this. Start with a few simple lists (personal + work), and as you collect tasks and your lists grow, consider breaking things up into other lists.
Hi, there’s any way to link a reminder with a note without the smart list?
can apple reminders filter keywords with no #. Similar to Todoist
I like this idea, and I am going to give this a try.
It will help you to get a little more focused on what needs to be done and when.

How did you link to note in your Apple notes?
Drag the note to the task in Reminders (only works on iPad and iPhone, though)

Hi Carl, thank you for yout Channel!
Subtasks are not shown in Reminders intelligent lists. Is it me or the app? 🙂
Your subtasks will need to conform to the smart list's criteria to come up in the smart list.
@@Carl_Pullein I assigned the same credentials, but the items still don't appear, sorry!?
@@rolandnoerpel Ah, then I presume that's an oversight by Apple. All being well, that will be fixed in iOS 18 / macOS ...

Is there a way to hide certain notifications while you are in a certain focus mode?
You can by creating your own custom smart list.
How would I hide them while the focus mode is on? @@Carl_Pullein

Create a new list and call it "InBox". Once that is set up, you can then add it to your favourites by tapping the edit button and moving to the top.
When will the book be released? Thank you a lot.

Hi Neilyo, that's one of the issues I have too. I haven't found a way around that yet.
Hi, I have created a shortcut “Add new reminder” and put the icon in the dock of my MacBook. That way I can quickly capture new tasks.
Is there an option to create a smart list with only Completed reminders of Today?
Safly, not at the moment. That may change in a couple of week when the new OSs come out.

Not being able to attach files is really a big problem.
