I’ve use Apple Notes and Apple Reminders for both home and work. I have pretty bad memory issues, so being able to make a reminder easily through Siri is great. There are literally days I will get reminders I don’t remember making, but really needed to know.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to use the list so I was thrilled to find your video. I’m using an iPad mini 6 with 17.4.1 version. I’m more lost than before. It seemed like you were stating your steps without showing us how you took the steps. I’m subscribed and your one on notes helped a lot. P.S. I’m 80 years old and am trying to learn my iPhone - iPad mini 6 and an apple watch 8 all that my daughter bought me so, as she says, get with it! Thanks

Brooke, thanks so much for this clear and detailed tutorial about Apple Reminders. I do use this app all the time, but it was good to be “reminded” of all the things it can do. You gave me new info that I was not aware of. 😊 I appreciate that you talk slowly and use the little pointing hand to show each step! It helps to be able to grasp all that you are telling us. I have marked this as a “Favorites” in my RUclips videos so I can refer back to it when necessary! Thanks again!❤

Thank you, Brooke! I tried the Apple Reminders app YEARS ago, but moved away from it to try other apps. I’m SO glad I came across your video! I use a different list app ( sharing our grocery list w fam ), but it looks like this would allow me to consolidate. I like seeing that you can link to notes, and that you can set it to remind you based on location. How many times have I needed to remember to do something or call someone as soon as I get home or get to work or a friends house … and as soon as I walk in the door and get distracted by our pet or a other people, Zooop! It’s gone! LOL.

Awesome video! Over the years I’ve tried and used so many notes and reminders and calendar apps… And they all degrade, change or increase their cost and change to subscriptions, so I have been learning to get better at the apps Apple has, and it’s a treat to be using something as your main tool that is seamless with your iCloud and is reasonably private and also will not have any price surprises…

I used reminders for years for all my personal stuff and other apps for side work projects, reminders has steadily gotten better over the years and I now have just moved everything into reminders. I like everything in one place. 1 have 15 lists and it doesn’t feel cluttered or too much at all. This is obviously for me and other may like to keep personal in one app and work in another. I completely understand that and it actually makes more sense having things siloed but I like everything all together so I can see and easily switch between.
I agree that notes should have its own reminders section another idea is to have a list in reminders called notes and go that route. But it’s still quite cumbersome to have to have a note to reminders to set a reminder.

Hi Brook, with your ideas as to adding sections in Reminders, and the Grocery idea, I have done a variation of it. Reminders, made a list for my grocery store isles, then I did sections for each area (seafood, meats, cheeses, and then each numbered isle: #1: SPICES, OILS, PICKLES, OLIVES: ; #2. And so on for every isle in the store. This allows me to make my grocery list by which isle has what etc. If you respond to me I will send you the a picture of the reminder. Yes, Apple’s grocery allocations is fine, but I like using my store’s isles. I had my grocery list in NOTES, by isle, but now I can put an item under the section of the isle and when I pick it up then it 9:32 just disappears. I hope I was not too confusing. Your fan, Roger of Orlando

I'm a bit confused because I did the update on macbook and on the iphone and still I don't have the wealth of items in the context menu as you. It looks very pared down in comparison. I'm on Sonoma. Maybe they removed some of the options? E.g I can only create subtasks by creating them as tasks, then dragging them on the iPhone onto another task.

    • @brooketierney
      @brooketierney  Месяц назад

Thanks for bringing this up! I just tried it on all my devices and this is what i found. iPad: no issues adding subtasks. iPhone: can only add subtasks when I’ve added a reminder to a list and press the ‘i’ button on the right of reminder. If i simply hit ‘new reminder’ then ‘details’ i dont see subtasks option. Mac: don’t see subtasks option at all. Thought maybe it was a bug but this article seems to support that on mac you can only do it by dragging or indenting: support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/reminders/remn32a9622b/mac

I moved from 3rd party apps for reminders to Apple. But I do wish a calendar month view option for quick date changes of dates on items in iOS and iPad OS. Right now it’s 1) press item you want date changed 2) press calendar icon, (options for today, tomorrow, this weekend, Date & Time) 3) press Date & Time 4) select date within calendar month view. Really wish the default was calendar month view from the first or second step.

For me it’s more like a task manager, not a reminders app. Too many clicks to quickly set date/time, which is a vital part of a reminder. When I want something to be reminded about, I usually want to specify when to be reminded.
    Siri solves this, anyway.
And as usual, if you don’t have a mac, icloud web is the only solution for using it in front of your computer.

I'm very disappointed because the two new features I saw in your video are not available on my ipad - I don't know why. In the 6th minute you showed, how we can create grocery list - it is not a possibility in hungarian language.
The second, however, is not language-dependent: I cannot add a reminder to the note, as you showed at minute 12th, I can only share the given note for common use...

hmm that’s interesting. for birthdays what i do is add it to the person’s contact (there’s a spot for it) and that adds it to my calendar. so i’ll see a calendar event and how old they’re turning.

@@brooketierney THANK YOU! I never gave the birthday field in my Contacts any thought and I'm so glad to hear this.

Great video but please watch with the Siri examples, all my devices started up since you actually said the wake words. That can be very annoying.

Someone else mentioned this as well. Thank you! Rookie mistake and I will be more careful next time!

I used to have a travel list of every item that I could check off as I packed them (eg chargers, socks…). I honed this list over 5 years such that I wouldn’t forget anything. But 1 day I accidentally hit a button that deleted the list permanently and couldn’t retrieve it. Thanks Apple!!
