  • Hey guys! Welcome back to another video. This week I show you how I approached this 3 stone diamond ring (oval & pear diamonds). Also, help me out here... Is it okay to call something classic/modern?
    We hope you enjoy, as usual, please let us know what you think or if you have any questions! Thank you for tuning in!

    Great as always. You might want to use a green filter over the camera lens to show the soldering of the platinum. I would also like the see the setting of the stones, it helps to understand some of the things you are doing.

    bahaha i love how down to earth you are :D many other jewellers would try to act like every simple step is a big deal, but in reality, yeah, you melt down metal to get like a blob :D this is a stunning piece and you make it look so easy!
    have you got any tips for adhering softer stones to metal, in order to draw around them? using super glue, especially on things like tourmalines with feathering, or rutile quartz, makes me so nervous and i end up using that sticky tack stuff for posters, which sucks. also, what is that wonderful looking metal bench pin/vice thing that you've got? it looks extremely helpful but i've never seen one before.

      Hey Alisa, thanks for all that 😊 for softer stones I like using a thin double sided tape (like the ones used in wrapping paper) and the bench system I use is called a benchmate and it’s made by GRS tools - superb stuff 👌🏻

    Fantastic work, as a new jeweler your channel has been extremely valuable. Thank you for the great content. One question, how do you go about removing the glue residue from the piece and stones?

    • @jacothejeweller
      @jacothejeweller  Год назад

      Thanks Mikey, I’m happy to hear that the channel helps. Regarding the glue, just a bit of heat on the opposite side of the metal with the torch. The glue will come off with very little heat. The residue will be crisp on the stones so that comes off easy. I only use this method on diamonds, sapphires and rubies because they can take heat.

    Looks hard to push could you do some polishing of the stone settings so it doesn't damage

      I try and work as smooth as possible to make sure I have less polishing to do afterwards Ross. I think my fingers got strong over the years 😎 but the metal is pretty soft.

    How fine is the paper you use for this 3st plt ring and how many types do you use ? you also never mention the solders you use ( melting points H M E)for Plt great work again ...

      The next video is all about platinum Paul so keep an eye out. I will try and cover the metal in one video but it might be two because there is such a lot to cover. As for the paper - I start with 180 to 240 to 400, 800, 1200,2000.2500and up to 3000 for platinum. Other metals I stop at 400
