- This week I show you how we approached this old cut diamond trilogy ring, made with the customer's lifestyle in mind. We are working in platinum and we have sat down with the client with a produced a detailed design, so that they know exactly what to expect.
These diamonds have been in the family and passed down to be used in this ring, I love this kind of work - it makes it even more special and sentimental.
If you're new here then WELCOME! We post jewellery-related (educational?) videos every week - showing you (behind the scenes) what happens in our workshop.
The channel's purpose is to share information with goldsmiths and anyone interested in what we have to offer here. Join us by subscribing and turning on the notification bell to never miss a beat.

You love a good knife edge shank don’t ya 😂 this is just gorgeous I wondered if you could do a video just focusing on ring shanks theres at least what 7 different kinds and all the tutorials I see are just round bands, it’s would be great to learn the others like Passover, split, tapered etc, I would be ever so grateful 🙏 if feel like we all need to put more focus on the shanks you know!!! 😬🤭💓🙏 thanks for the vid amazing as always 🎉
Perfect timing!! I’m on my break at jewellery school making a three stone ring
Niiiiceee
Thanks 😊
If you dont want to see different colour where you solder platinum - use Platinum Plumb Solder. They are 90-95% Pt so color match is perfect, also they dont polish out.
I love a well-made, hand fabricated, robust ring that will stand the test of time. Well done!
🔥🙏🤙💍
Thank you.
Mooi bien😂
oh man i've been wanting to make a classic ring like this for ages but i'm too scared. the sandpapering over a curved plate is an awesome tip, thank you! presumably, if you're working with silver, you would ideally have the prongs as arches still on the cones when you're soldering the top to the shank, otherwise the whole construction would fall apart during the last soldering operation, right?
Wow, that was fascinating! No wonder jewelry is so expensive. I am currently having some jewelry re fashioned and am excited to get
the new version. One of the items I took in was a gold nugget watch that I wore in the 80's but they didn't work on watch face replacement ;
however, we live in a VERY rural area in the Ozarks and am near no watch repair shops. Therefore, I've been searching youtube to find
out how or what craft tool that I should use to bend the gold prongs to hold the new watch face that I hope I can find at Walmart Super
Center. I know but.....that's all we have. Any ideas that you may have would be appreciated. Thanks so much for sharing your gift. p
ps. I'm thinking about finding the appropriate watch face size and taking it back to the jewelry shop and asking them to "bend" the
prongs.
You are welcome and thanks for the kind words - It sounds like something that can be sorted and I'm glad to see you looking for a solution yourself. I would recommend you take a few good close up photos to start off with and then email them to me with your best description at jacothejeweller@gmail.com - I will be able to help you with advise or send you in the right direction
8:09 How did you measure how much of the shank to remove to make room for the head? Hope that makes sense.
In this case, I held the head against the shank and made a pencil mark either side on the shank - I then cut inside the mark so that it is essentially too small to fit the head - and then carefully / slowly filed metal away either side (at the same angle as the head) until it fit.
I hope this helped, let me know if it makes sense. 🙏
On jerre a clean shaven jaco machine,
great stuff very nice piece, i dare you buy some crocks 🤣🤣
I think Damia is getting me some for Christmas, I have a feeling. I will do an unboxing and review 😂
Also thank you! 💍
Thanks again Jaco you are bringing back memories with pre polishing the shank before soldering setting in place. Please remind me is 960 solder higher melting temp than hard solder?
