First Class on the WORST American Jet: The CRJ-700

- This epic Barrow trip concludes with a flight aboard American Eagle's CRJ-700 in First Class! Yippee! In this video, I show why it really is American's worst jet by a long shot and if First Class makes any difference on it. Thankfully the flight wasn't that long, only an hour between Chicago, Illinois and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania...for that reason and for the fact I was pretty beat after a red-eye and long day prior to that. Hope you guys enjoyed the whole trip and this vid!

4 days after making this video...American has announced the illustrious return of the CRJ-200! So very soon coming to a neighborhood near you - the comeback of AA's true WORST jet! 🎉🎉🎉
The mere mention of the 200 gives me ptsd and the phantom aches from my neck, butt, and back. I'd much prefer an EMB-135/145 over the 200 any day!!!
Well not mainline American's jet. Air Wisconsin's jet, least American is stealing away United's most reliable regional partner to replace the ERJs
I think you should have complained about the dirty windows.
You have not been on an ERJ-145
Okay, the CRJ-200 might be bad, but the CRJ-700 and CRJ-900 aren't bad at all. They're actually quite good on most airlines, and are reliable. The longer CRJ's definitely aren't in the category of worst jets. They're some of American's good jets. The new CRJ's are excellent.
I flew the 700 for the first time back in January from MYR to CLT. Honestly, it was a smooth ride and the Captain had flawless take offs and landings, barely felt them. Not a bad ride!
How do you know it wasn’t the first officer flying?
It is hilarious how many people dislike the CRJ!! I LOVE IT!! I will never forget the first CRJ Skywest got, and had the chance to fly on it. I loved it compared to the Fairchild Metro! 😂😂😂 Anyways, the CRJ will always have a place in my heart.
So you're short? Every person above 5'7 hates CRJs with a passion
@@gelatinous6915 I'm 5'10. But!! I have to admit most of my flying now is done in First Class. 😂
When Skywest got it's first CRJ, I was 18 years old and it was the newest and greatest thing in the industry. I think all of us aviation geeks have a special place in our memory for certain aircraft. The CRJ just happens to be one for me. I just realized most CRJ-200's only have one flight attendant? I could swear back when I flew on the first one, there were 2 flight attendants. That is a lot of work for a single FA to cater to 50 passengers. Especially if there is a drink and snack service
I’m 6 foot tall and this plane is one of my favorites.
It's better than the Dash 8
@@TrainerAQ True
For me the CRJ is a nice plane. I love the rear engines (thus quieter cabin), 2 X 2 seating and quicker boarding process compared to a larger variant 737s or Airbuses.
Flew in CRJ700 from Charlotte NC to Akron Canton Ohio. The flight took an hour. 500+ mph. Smooth. Also no deaths. Its basically the most efficient and safe plane. I loved it. Could feel everything. I hate flying btw. That takeoff is amazing!
Great eye opening intro!! I always love your creative touches and music.👍
Yes it’s true their very uncomfortable, yet it’s extremely useful for airlines when they go to smaller cities. You wouldn’t send a 737 to Places like Brunswick Georgia.
Yeah, it’s the only way they can make a profit with regional airports so we gotta make due with it
I agree! As a tall guy, I'm not a fan of the CRJ. I'm happy that Alaska/Horizon Airlines now have the EMB-175s instead. Much better!
Thing w/the ERJ 170/175/190/195 though is that while the windows are bigger, they're spaced farther apart in my opinion. Had plenty of flights on a 170/5 where my only view was achieved via either breakin' my back leaning fwd, or my neck lookin' behind me, ha. NEVER been a fan of the ERJ. 👎👎
@@dodoubleg2356 Agree
The only ones to fear are the early models in the 100/200. I find there's enough space on the 500's and onwards.
SkyWest tends to operate Alaskas EMB-175's in my experience
Get a private jet
the 700 holds a special place in my heart, since it was the first and only plane i had ever flown in for many years, so it felt enormous to me as a kid. even with all the 737 and 320 types i’ve been in since, i’d still like to fly in one one more time
I always enjoy your videos AND your choice of background music. Well done. Big Republic E-175 fan here.
Me too; I fly that plane all the time, and it never feels cramped (I’m average height, 5’10)
The fact that i’ve spent numerous hours working on that exact plane maintaining it mind boggles me as i am no longer with skywest. My name and hands will forever be tied to that plane 😬
Uh oh! Hanger queen.
@@TylerF35A not anymore lol
Thanks for maintaining them for us. Much appreciated.
Best intro ever 😂. Great video!
I love the music towards the beginning of the video. It's so jazzy.
Just took a CRJ-700 from Jackson Hole to LAX. Great ride, cozy cabin, loved it!
I'm about to go from Gillette, WY to Denver again next week. First time a month ago...love thise little CRJs....learning to glybit on my flight simulator...pretty fun!!
I was looking for a new perspective and I've found it. Nothing against Jeb, Cahill, and Nonstop Dan, but you've taken a lighter approach and it's appreciated. Will definitely watch more. Thanks. (and a winter Anchorage trip? yes please). ((and spend a day/night in Chicago next time. It's my home base so I'm slightly biased, but it's the finest city in the universe.)
Fantastic trip report Chris! The videos from this trip as a whole was amazing! Also, Mission BBQ is amazing!
I've been watching your videos constantly over and over because I am going on a trip, and I am flying Southwest (#SouthwestLuv)! Your videos want to make me travel a lot more! :DDD
your videos are awesome im going to chicago in april
Hey love your videos
Got stuck on a small
Plane my last flight so now I look up planes. This was what I needed to see lol not booking the flight on this plane. This looked just like my last flight foggy windows old plane. I’m good
At least you're flyin' the reconfig. SKW version of this aircraft. American Eagle then Delta had it maxed out @70 seats but SKW lowered it to 65. Hope that translates into more legroom for ya. 😂✌️🖤💛
I like the video and can Agree with you The CRJ plane has a ok leg room
Heeeeey CRJs aren’t that bad. They might not have the most luggage storage and you frequently get valet tagged. I would argue that the exit row on the CRJs are some of the most spacious and still have a great wing view. Economy seating might not be the best, but most of the cabin crews are some of the nicest I’ve flown with and because there are less passengers, it’s less stressful on them. I agree the scratch problem is definitely something that could be fixed and upgraded on the windows. The pilots are super friendly too. That goes for most CRJ crews I’ve been with on American and Delta. Good chance the CRJ is on this route because they have been having overcapacity issues throughout 2022 with more people flying again. We have a Mission BBQ down here in NC too. Love their food.
I’m 6’10” the best thing about the CRJ 700 is eco + seating. If I’m not on a narrow body (737) usually I’m on a crj-200 or 145 and they don’t have eco + the worst thing about eco + is now I have to pay to fit in the plane as before I could call CS and usually they could get me a bulkhead or emergency row seat with no additional charge.
I got stuck on the CRJ-200 from ORD to CAE back in 2012. That thing was like flying in a Yugo! I think being in a can sardines would have been more comfortable.
Ooh a Columbia native? nice! Yeah it sucks that skywest only utilizes those for the Chicago routes
Are we sure it’s worse than the E140/45? It’s smaller than the CRJ2
Umm no the CRJ2 is the smallest variant
Another great informative video! My experience flying on the CRJ was several years ago when I flew out of Moline IL on a CRJ 200 operated by Northwest Air Link over to Detroit. Then transferred to a Northwest Airlines A319 from Detroit to Manchester New Hampshire. I visited friends in New Hampshire for 10 days. My return trip was the same route and aircraft in reverse. My CRJ experience I actually enjoyed and was impressed at the time by the capabilities of the CRJ. Granted it was a little tight seating but both flights were actually enjoyable. I do have a few hours of flight training under my belt. I sure appreciate your channel and flying reports! Do have an awesome weekend! Mark in Iowa.
In July I was supposed to fly the CRJ700 from ORD to DTW, fortunately, the plane ended up being the E145 instead
SMH - this flight exceeded your expectations in every way and the comment is "Well....at least it got us here safely" - If this had been Alaska.....you would have talked about how wonderful everything was....... :(
the worst! I am short, average, and hate this aircraft. It truly felt like I was flying in a coffin. Great video as usual, not a big fan of the music;) Cheers!
The windows are huge I love this plane
can't help but observe the way in which passengers now a days fuss over seemingly minor details....flew through PIT many times in the late 80's and early 90's(the fortress hub of US AIR at the time) and even got some upgrades to FC courtesy of my late brother who was a frequent flyer on US.....nothing like FC on a DC-9.....or when US flew the route EWR-CLT-SFO(after taking over Piedmont) with 733-300 whose range made the clt-sfo dubious....with strong headwinds an unsched fuel stop in LAS was undertaken...AA has melded together many former carriers(piedmont, usair, reno air, twa etc.) and is still of reasonable quality...as I don't fly anymore....I find your videos informative...but like some many others your expectations seem over the moon....just my opinion thanks
Just flew the CRJ 700 in the first row yesterday, on a flight from Fresno to Phoenix. Once settled in came the announcement: SURPRISE! There is only ONE restroom, and it is in the rear of the plane (did I mention that I was in Seat 1??) . So if you have to go, do so before the seat belt light comes on for the approach/landing. I had to go midway through the approach, and rushed to the back. I felt bad for rushing the flight attendant strapped in front of the restroom door.
I think that the CR J served its purpose as it’s used for a lot of domestic flights and saves the company money. Many people do prefer bigger jets tho
I flew this on the Delta Connection (former ASA) flights out of my old town. The ATR-72 prop planes on the same mini airline were roomier. ;)
You can land one on the interstate. That's a huge plus for me.
You should try getting on the CRJ-550 way better leg room and definitely more space for bags
Oh I have...United actually managed to make this plane kinda nice with the 550 👍🏻
I am going to fly on a CRJ 900 in November so it’s nice to have an idea of what to expect. Thank you for the video.
Watch your head getting up if you have a window seat.
I do have a window seat. I appreciate your warning.
Flying out of a small regional airport all of the time, my choices usually are the CRJ-700 on American, or the CRJ-200 on United. To me, the 200 feels even more cramped, even comparing the regular economy sections. My most recent trip had me on American, a CRJ-700 in Economy Plus, a 738 in First, and a ERJ-145. Tomorrow, I'm on United, CRJ-200, and a CRJ-700. Like before, the 200s feel tighter to me, which doesn't make any sense, but I feel much more claustrophic in them.
Whats a 738??
@@gandalfthegrey8236 737-800
The CRJ200 feeling more tight is actually very understandable since the cabin floor is raised higher (it was lowered on the 700/900 for a little more space)
The 200 has a narrower airframe
I recently flew on a crj 700, i was sitting all the way in the back on a delta flight, the engines in the back blow your ears out, its so loud!
I have to fly on AA Eagle CRJ-700 to get to DFW... I always, always dread this ride.. It is a painful experience!
There's such thing as First class in USA. Maybe the Mint Studio on Jetblue, but that seat is extremely difficult to get. Even if you want it, there's only 2 seats per airplane that have it. on the A321LR to London and they sell out.
I flew on a AA CRJ 700 first class ORD-TUL last September, i liked the single seat but didn't like that the only bathroom was in the back
At least you didn't have to wait in the jetty for your gate checked luggage which happens a ton to passengers flying these regional jets
It’s like even the gate areas are a punishment. Gosh these crappy things suck. Soooo bad.
You did get home safely, so it cannot be the worst jet.
Yea the crj aren’t that bad. I’m usually happy to get the crj class. Embraer 145 has to be you should travel more.
Does anyone notice that TJG 13’s channel banner is now a Ryanair 737!!??!
I love the CRJ 700. It feels more like flying in a jet fighter than any other passenger plane.
There must be a flaw with some of the CRJs windows they are all like that, We get the Mesa CRJ 900 for the 26 minute flight between TUS-PHX, but now its going A319 and even a 320.. for a 26 minute flight.
"American's worst jet" My guy have you heard of the E-145?
At least ya got to see some cool aircraft @ORD. Oh wait, scratched windows, forgot, ha.
Regional jets mean all carry-ons gate checked, luckily its changing with ERJ-175s and CRJ 550s no gate checked luggage
Maybe try flying Mesa Airlines CRJ-700s out of Phoenix Sky Harbor those have scratched up windows as well!!! Skyvator Productions will tell you all about those types since he lives in Phoenix
You’ve never flown on one
I bet you today Republic Airways flies this route instead of SkyWest on ERJ 175s
Lucky you didn't get the 200. The 700 was them fixing all the problems and making the 200 right.
Does feel weird seeing SkyWest planes on the east coast but that happens when SkyWest has midwestern hubs
Chicago is their biggest base…
10:55 memories :(
Sad 😢
😂 the window needs to be cleaned.
how does the E145 by Piedmont compare to the CRJ 700?
I found this plane to be the most comfortable one
I’m on one every single day. The first class on the CRJ is it’s like a regular main cabin seat and large planes. Nothing special.
I’d honestly prefer the crj 700 over the erj145. E145s are the worst since they are so small. In general I don’t really like flying on regional jets. It’s kind of boring. My grandparents lived in the Pittsburgh area when they were still alive and we used to fly to Pittsburgh at least one to two times a year. I remember when American used to exclusively fly regional jets from ORD to PIT
These videos motivate me, because I have a goal to become wealthy🙌😍
How is the CRJ that bad? I was on it before and it was amazing! I rather be on that than the ERJ
924 units sold. It is a regional jet. What more do you expect? The E 175 is almost the same plane.
The E175 is much better. It’s taller and wider which means wider seats. Also has very big windows. It’s overhead bins are bigger and can accommodate regular size roller bags. The CRJ requires plane side pickup for rollerbags.
im on a 900 next month for the first time, if its not mainline im normally on a 700 or a 175
wait...were you flying Alaska, american, or skywest??
You mentioned that the CRJ 200 is the retired aircraft which was even worse than this one, was that the even smaller plane with the 2-1 seat configuration all economy and no first class? I've noticed that I haven't flown in any of those for several years now. The smallest planes I still see now have 2-2 seat configuration, no more planes with 2-1 configuration
That’s the 145, since it has a side with 1 seat I find it better than the 200
@@Micg51 145 single seat is really cool!
with my size, I wish the smallest planes out there were 737s or A320s
In my experience the internet and free movies do not work. Never could get them to play or do anything.
Honestly, just feels like you wanted to complain about the flight from before you got onto the plane. I dont mind the regional jets, they help serve more markets and have been on these planes many times.
I would have preferred peanuts over pecans too.
OMG the Macaw Sharp thirst comments came early!
I mean, Ill take a CRJ over an MD-80 any day. I think AA was using those till like 2019
The MD80 is much more comfortable.
How short is that flight?
I’ve flown first class on a bunch of airlines, on many aircraft. This aircraft has, by far, the worst first class “cabin” of any I’ve ever flown. Smallest seats. Worst leg room. Worst head room. Worst amenities. The flight I just took today even had the surliest flight attendants I’ve ever had the displeasure to fly with. Never flying this aircraft again.
Dang! Don’t talk too much trash on the old girl. Good plane right there. No AT, but hey…the 700 ain’t bad.
I don’t mind CRJ’s. They are MUCH better than the puddles jumpers of yesteryear.
ive flown both the crj 700 and the 900 and honestly theyre both depressing, and i literally adore planes so thats weird for me to say
What’s funny is that American will apparently be bringing the crj-200 out of retirement
The armrest can fold up. There is a button underneath.
04:00 I saw the China Eastern!!!
I had no idea Mitsubishi started to make and rebrand the crj seiries
Bombardier sold the CRJ program to Mitsubishi.
Worst American Jet: Skywest CRJ-700
(Mesa CRJ-900 has left the chat)
It was a bag of Almonds, Cashews, and Pecans not Almonds, Cashews, and Peanuts.
Took. CRJ from DIA to Richmond VA because it was the only direct flight. Horrible flight. Super uncomfortable.
I flew the -700 in May to LGB but it was Mesa. Worst aircraft ever! The A/C wasn’t on during boarding until engine start so imagine how hot that aircraft was under the PHX sun! Even the window shade was broken! Next time I fly AAEagle I will not choose one operated with Mesa.
I flew one DCA-YYZ in business class. i had a fairly small carry-on that could not fit in the overhead place but, luckily, fit underneath the seat, thus, no leg room. Best part: no one in customs so it only took 3 minutes then 10 minutes later, in my rental car to the 401.
Just you wait til u see the crj 200 or Erj 140/145
I was flying between Harrisburg and Milwaukee and I had a layover in Chicago and on the 2nd flight was a Skywest crj-700 with very sketchy windows becuase how scratched they are
You do realize that thin peice of plastic next to your seat is not the actual window, right?
bro idk how to respond to that
The envoy services out of CMI to DFW and ORD do not have Wi-Fi and to me are terrible
First class in the CRJ 700 is a TREAT, for someone who has to constantly fly CRJ 200s consider yourself lucky.
I flew Air Canada's CRJ900 last June from YYC-YXE-YYC each flight seated on the last row. It was horrible. The FA jumpseat folds out from the lav (or so it seemed) and is situated between the rows of passenger seats making it look like 5 across with no aisle. There was a broken overhead bin taped shut with silver duct tape and a bi-lingual sticker. I learned that "Hors Service" was French for busted. No mercí!
Aaaand just like that, the CRJ-200s are coming back to AA starting in March 2023.
💀💀💀
Just flew on a 700 also. Lol. In economy tho. Wasn't terrible but wasn't that great for leg room.
I understand that American Airlines CRJ’s are pretty bad, but I never have any expectations for short flights. I’m slightly shorter than you (I believe you said you are 6’0; I’m 5’10) so I can handle it for 90 minutes or less.
I don't think there was much of a flare on that landing.
Wait until he gets on the E145 😂 historical.
You think the 700 is worse than the e145?
