In the future, archivists of the 20th century are going to come accross this deep cut, and be utterly stunned at how this was hiding in plain sight withonly a 100,000+ views. There will be a revival of Chung Kyung Wha's recordings and she will rise to the top of them all. Nobody, absolutely nobody beats her interpretation of Bartok! For us lucky 100,000 now. What a treat!
Incredible yes. Take note also of her brother Myung Whun Chung whose conducting. Everything he does is golden. Enormous depth to this man. A mountain of positive energy.
Absolutely amazing - from bar 1 (the harp plays portato, never heard that before). The orchestra completely emancipated from the soloist, and she is soooo good! I had lost track of her while she was not performing. Thanks to RUclips I can rediscover one of the greatest violinists of my own lifetime.
My favourite performance. Most players try to play it as fast as possible, Chung is the only who understands Bartok's concert, and can trasmit its lyricism.
Wonderful interpretation characterized by searing intensity and focus without an ounce of self-consciousness, by both the soloist and conductor, who are completely in sync.
It amazes me again and again how it's possible for someone to play a piece such as this with great precision, seemingly knowing exactly what it's supposed to sound like
i guess Im asking randomly but does anybody know a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost the password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me
I'm not sure why my videos get ads; they not being my own property, my videos are not monetised. Guess it's just RUclips trying to increase their revenue or to encourage more people shifting to their pay-version app. If you're using Chrome browser, I recommend you to install AdBlock add-on.
First heard in 1975 when i was in a jazz art rock ensemble. We dropped everything to adapt the first 1:32...it took us 22days@5hours a day to come close. This is beauty.
I thumbed up the video. I really am impressed by Kyung-Wha, always, and I think forever. She is just a fabulous violinist. I listened to the entire playing, even though I really don't care for the composition. It's way too dissonant for me. Such works have always left me cold. A personal failing? I guess so. I prefer the beauty of her Beethoven and Mendelssohn performances.
Well, it was 30 years ago but a really wonderful performance. Kyung-Wha Chung and Myung-Whun Chung both performed well. Both grew more skilled and mature in subsequent years, but this was quite fine. I studied with my older sister for some years but performed only once with her. Loved it, though sis did give me a strange look on occasion. Well, you know how critical older sisters can be. I bet the maestro and his sisters enjoy playing together - they did beautifully in the Beethoven triple concerto back in 1984, which also included Myung-Wha Chung on cello.
Very nice performance. This is one of the most exotically emotional concertos ever written. I am still waiting for a master who does not play the entire piece forte. Perfect pitch and execution is not everything.
what do you mean by cropped? the video is uploaded untouched apart from some colour correction in its original format as I purchased directly from SWR.
@@twofinedays I'm sorry I have been listening to this version for a long time as far back as 2008. I remember watching her facial expressions as she played and would not forget one split second of this work. I see that this was posted in 2011. I can see the differences in the visuals. It is still great, I just love watching her powerful performance. Where can I get the video?
@@tomestubbs If it was on RUclips, it must've been from me. Back then one could only upload up to 10 min length, so I had to cut it into several segments. This version is the re-upload as a whole chunk. This and Beethoven Triple, which you can also find on my channel) were produced by SWR (südwestdeutsche rundfunk), and I purchased directly from them. That's well over 10 years ago, and I don't know if they provide the same service now.

84년도 촬영인데 우리 정경화선생님은 왜 이렇게 세련됐지?! 연주도 외형도 정말 매력적이시다...

THE STARS WILL WEEP CINDERS AND THE STONES WILL BE LIGHTER THAN ANGELS’ WINGS
Strange fact, but my favorite recording to listen to when I was 19 years old was this concerto played by Mrs. Chung, and I'm not even a violinist.
Kyung-Wha Chung definitely interprets this piece the best, for me. Just amazing.
Wow her phrasing is so sublime. I really enjoyed this performance! It balances the refined with the edgy aspect found in Bartok’s music.
She is just the best I think.....dreamy performances
'저 시절'에 서양인들 사이에서 당당하고 떳떳하게 연주하시는 모습이 너무 멋있습니다..
오 소름이 돋을 만큼 짜릿하고 매력적인 연주...
정말 최고의 연주입니다.

I have always loved her playing 😍
Thank God ...... there are still musicians among all those contemporary hot shots :-)
I keep on coming back to this performance. It is breathtaking!
And to memorise ,let alone play, all these notes ,what an achivement !
Sensational !!! Kyung and brother ! The beauty of Bartók's music in its entirety !!!

Borja Sáez the one who understand bartok Bartok is patricia koparchinskaja
Borja Sáez plus patricia kopatchinskaja
I have to disagree to fast and not accurate, I prefer Stern with Bernstein
Stern is much much better

@Marlon Watson Instablaster =)
The greatest of her time. Thankyou for your efforts.
wow.... She is best...! and she's brother Myung-whun Jung too!
Nothing more than unbelievable performance !!
Her 1980s performances were the best; Chung was at her prime with decent recording technology.
C’est magnifique ❤
amazing the best perfomanceThe spirit of Bartók seems to have been born again in the body of Kyung -Wha Chung!!!!!
frankcisyarmi well said.
I cannot get over the incredible performance of this magnificent work. Kyung Wha Chung remains one of my favorite violinists. Thanks for re-posting!
Remarkable.
just sublime~ 정경화 선생님 🎻🎶🎵
I was shown an advertisement at 36:11. That is simply criminal, considering how extraordinary the piece and performance is

Super performance, super Bartok ! Amazing wow ! :))
Emocionante ¡¡ seguridad y musicalidad
My inspo for this piece !!!
sublime !
They both are so beautiful! I love her drive and how she turns back to the orchestra to play with them. Myung-Whun Chung...what an excellent version.
Her brother is not my idea of beautiful, but in college me and another guy were in love with her.
Gotta feel a little sorry for Martha Argerich . . .
sublime !
I got the goose bumps. Specially when the orchestra repeats the melody at 01:36
la parte 14:07 me hace demasiado bien , gracias por existir béla bártok
31:41 Love that part!!
She makes me thinking of Janine Jansen... by the mood, gestures and competency. Geniuses, both ones. Thanks for this magnificent post.
Wow, when I first saw Ms. Jansen playing, I thought of Ms. Chung. Somehow similiar in the way of body moving, facial expression etc.

This is amazing !!!

Really great. Along Anne Sophie Mutter, my favorites
The Harrison Strad, I believe? About a year before it went to the National Music Museum in South Dakota.
Gawd she's good!

Hey, Ron, speaking of "strange looks," check out the sibling communication at about 3:41-3:44. Priceless!
She fucked up "something", but thru all the BEAUTY, WE will never know what

Where is this being played?
there's no clear description as of where it was shot,
but I believe it must've been in the studio of Südwestrundfunk in Baden Baden.
I think the one that Michael Rabin played. Not too shabbily either...lol.
