I’m one of those who made granny square crochet in the late 1950 and sixteenths… we just asked anybody to give us leftovers of any yarn, couleur and texture, so I would not pay this price, I don’t mind couleurs change in the middle of a row, what I do is not professional, just fun and gifted to people who like or need it . I offer bunnies and scarves to people who freeze 🥶 in the street, it’s my joy to make these things. Thanks for sharing ❤ from us

I agree, I probably will not purchase this yarn because for me, granny squares are meant to be made from scraps. I love that you donate your crocheted items to people in need.❤❤❤

Jen, I noticed you beginning your squares with a short tail. Red Heart recommends a 4" tail at beginning and end. I watched another Podcaster use a ruler and his colors matched up pretty good. That said, I enjoy your yarn reviews very much, especially because you work up the yarn. Thank you for all the hard work you put into your channel.

Yes! It makes so much sense that it caused her to have to drop down a hook size or tighten up the tension, which of course, would make the square pucker. I found myself trying to tell her what to do as I watched it. 😅

17:12 Same for me! Connecting lots of granny squares is _never_ an option. I rather make a continous granny rectangle, and would love to try these yarns to see the result.

I had to go up to a 6 mm hook, no stitch between the granny clusters, and used up extra yarn by slip stitching. It’s been great and have made up one and a half skeins-worth of granny squares in two days. Totally worth it! Loving this yarn…and I DON’T like granny squares! 😂

Jennifer my hands are like the way you describe yours to be. Years ago they were so bad I had to keep bandages on them because the little bumps would bleed and burn. I tried many lotions to no avail then I tried the O’Keeffe’s working hands. It healed my hands and stopped the flare I was having.
I still have issues and start using the working hands when I start noticing the issue starting to flare up again. My daughter has the same issue and recently told me the Aveeno baby eczema therapy nighttime balm works really well also. She recently had her 1st baby so found it because she uses it for the baby and noticed how it helped her hands.
My hands are like sandpaper and the nail sides are like yours and I have trouble with certain yarn too, and red heart is top of that no go list. I can not use it. I can use most wool though. And microfiber is like Velcro to my hands.
Don’t know if those lotions would help you or not but they work for me so wanted to mention it. 💕🌞

Good morning Jenn. Thanks for the review. I went back and watched Mikeys tutorial. It's worth watching. He does the granny a bit differently to make it work. He uses a chain 6 at the first, instead of chaining 3. Once this yarn hits Canada I'm sure it will be $14.99 per skein. Gotta wait for the Michael's coupons! The yarn in my scrap bin is free!! Lol. Have a great day😊

Thanks for your comments about the blisters on your hands from yarn. I agree that RHSS is not smooth and maybe it causes my blisters. I have an auto-immune disease, too. About this yarn- it seems like too much time to worry about the colors. It is quicker to use my own colors and make squares in my choice of yarn.

There are directions on the yarn sleeve on how to make these squares, but hard to locate because the writing is so small. It answers some of the questions you were asking.
To me it is a different pattern of granny square than what I've made myself.
Lots of people have reviews out on this yarn. I'm watching lots of them and people have also found other ways to end up with squares without running out of yarn.
I really appreciate your review and your channel. TYSM

Loved this review video. One of the things I most appreciate about your videos is that you are thorough and try different things other than what a yarn is"indeed" for. I agree the colors are very pretty and fun and yes that price point is high. I'll wait until a sale and definitely pick up a few balls because I also don't mind frogging just a small amount. Thanks for another great video. I'm currently working on another spring fling tee. That is my favorite style to and it's so easy to adjust up it down for sizing. 😊

Looks like it might work well for mitered squares in knit or crochet! Because it's a matter of figuring out guage and stitch corner out and gives some flexibility in texture and design. Just put in a bit of a yarn eater for one row or the opposite.

Regarding eczema, I'm noticing blistering on my fingers lately and I think it's craft related since most of my collection is acrylic. Even when I lost crojo or took breaks for the week or two the blisters persisted only where the yarn passes for tension and where the aluminum hook rests hardest on my right index finger, and hang nails in warm weather. I know it's not anything else effecting my skin because this never happened before learning crochet and has been recurring since learning the hobby. I know eczema isn't the same for everyone just pointing out the breakouts might be specific agitation from grazing a plastic fiber so often.
After having watched several reviews of the same yarn I liked that you showed how it works up with a different stitch

First time watching your channel. I was curious about this yarn. I'm not much of a red heart fan. I think the price is too high. It is cute. But I don't want to make grannies very much. Because I don't make blankets and don't want to sew squares together. I don't care about color change in rounds because I bury my tails as I change colors, so that is a non issue for me. Corner to corners are new for me. And again I don't want to make blankets. I want to make amigurumi. So I'm glad I checked it out. I don't think this yarn would be good for that. I will watch you again. I think you did a fair evaluation. I understand about your hands. I have health issues and am basically a spoonie now because of those. I like your wind chime and your voice. Thanks for the review.

I love grannies, but as you reiterated=I detest joining granny squares. So much so that I have made a LOT of blankets that are just one enormous single granny. 😊 Sometimes I put a border on it, sometimes just switched to a coordinating yarn for the last round/edge. Sometimes I did a border (like learned from Jaydainstitches)a shell/SC/shell. In any case I'm doubtful that I will buy this yarn. I get bulk amounts of yarn from auction for way cheaper than buying from stores. Resale shops also. If I happen upon some there, I'll have fun playing with it 😁as you did. I have a WIP going now that I started with red solid, and am alternating green and white. Didn't finish it for Christmas bc the day before this video I learned of my next older brother's death. Then I got covid for the first time. Haven't felt like crocheting for a while now.

I love the corner to corner square! I think it would be cool to do these squares and arrange them to create a chevron-ish look. 🤩💕❤️💕💖

I'm going to get about 6-7 to try a granny cardigan or blanket. Joann has them for 7.12 a ball at the moment.

In the right column of the instructions it does say to leave a four inch tail. Not a little piece four inches after the first slip know if you do that the rest will fall into place better.

After watching several videos where someone is struggling with that granny square yarn I said that yarn is not for me. Don't have the time or patience to watch my tension so closely on every row or be willing to frog and start over for every square.
So I'm so happy that you a stepping outside the box on this one. Knew I could depend on you for that. Thanks so much!!

Have you ever tried the birth's these products on your cracked skin. I used to deal with a lot as a cashier.Working with paper money receipts and coupons and it was the only thing that kept my finger skin from cracking. I hope that helps you some, really enjoy your video😊

LOVE the colors and how it changes in the skein.... I would love to work up scarves etc to see just how the colors would play out in different stitches/hooks- FUN yarn indeed!♥️🤗

I love wind chimes. I have them all over my porch and in my house. But it also sounds like you have a lot of traffic in the background which is okay for me to.
But I agree $11.99 for yarn is way too expensive.😢

Really great video! Solves it for me. I’m not going to run out and purchase it but it does look cute in corner to corner. I’m not so good with tension so I’d have problems, and I don’t mind weaving in ends. However it is way cheaper than buying 5 different coloured yarns to get the same result.

Ok, I totally understand your skin issues. I have that too and you could be allergic to something in the yarn. My fingers get clusters of tiny blisters and itch like crazy. My dermatologist also told me to never use Dawn dish soap again. Please take care of your hands, they also said you can develop arthritis due to this condition.
