    HIII, I'm a junior right now, and am seriously considering BU, your video made me so happy and excited to apply, the way you described how welcoming they were was so nice!!!

      Hey Alia! Thanks so much for watching. BU has seriously given me more opportunities than I could ever imagine. But of course, you'll know what's right for you. If BU ends up your choice, let me know! Comm. Ave would be so excited to welcome you!

    Thank you sooo much for making this video! BU is one of my top schools, but I am really intimidated by the admitted student profile they released for 2017. I got about the same ACT and SAT scores as you, but their averages are a lot higher. This is definitely a reach school for me, and I'm out of state too, so I'm unable to visit the school. This video comforted me A LOT. If you don't mind me asking, what extracurriculars did you do? I can't apply early decision, but I really really hope I can be a terrier! Congrats on getting accepted, and I hope you're having a great time!

      Thank you for watching! Don't be intimidated by all those numbers and statistics. It's supposed to be a way for BU to "brag" in a sense about its freshman class. BU honestly looks for (at least to my understanding) students are engaged and involved. Of course ACT and SAT scores matter, but I really utilized the application to show my personality and how involved I wanted to become. It was a reach school for me too, but here I am now! As for extracurriculars I'm becoming involved with BUTV10 because I'm interested in broadcast journalism, am campaigning for a position in the Residence Hall Council, and recently just started an intramural soccer team. There's SO much to do here on campus. Be confident in yourself and don't be afraid to really show who you are in your application. Be personable, unique, and specific. They receive so many applications that the best advice I can give is to stand out by being specific. Please let me know if there's anything else I can help with, and Go Terriers!

    I fell in love with BU the moment I saw it in videos and such...but I'm so stumped with my essays and the extracurricular portion. What did you do to prep for the essay and what extracurriculars did you do? Are extracurriculars super important?

    Congrats. It's kind of late in the game, but we're adding BU back on to our son's list. So it was good to see this video. He had taken BU off because of it's size, 33k undergrads. But he was looking to add one or two more schools to his list, so we took a deeper look at it. Still concerns about the size and getting lost as a number, but saw a lot that we liked, including the physics and philosophy major.

    I know BU is an expensive school, which is worrying because I will be paying the majority of my tuition (my parents can't afford it). I love BU, but I'm worried that applying there and realizing that even if I get in (my grades are somewhat below the average, but I have a lot of academic and cultural extracurricular s and such) I might not be able to afford it, which would break my heart. Do you think with the experiences and opportunities BU can give you that you'll have a high amount of debt after you graduate? I'm a junior, so I'm just now having to look into serious college planning in terms of tuition and all that. (Also how are you liking BU so far???)

    • @JakeBrewerMusic
      @JakeBrewerMusic  7 лет назад +5

      hey! i'm only a month into school so it's hard for me to justify the investment for you personally... i would recommend applying and going from there. you'll learn all about financial aid at the point of acceptance. if bu is a top school of years then i say it's worth the chance of applying. i would apply regular decision though so you aren't binded to coming if accepted. and i'm loving it here! there's never a dull moment and the people are so amazing and welcoming. good luck with applications!

    • @JakeBrewerMusic
      @JakeBrewerMusic  7 лет назад +6

      thanks! the financial aid was very helpful for me and is the main reason i was able to commit to BU. it's expensive, i won't lie, but there's so many scholarship opportunities and BU is so thorough and generous with financial aid that i highly recommend applying. although an important factor, don't worry about financial aid or the cost just yet. if you want to apply, i say do it! let me know if there's any other questions i can answer. thanks!

    I'm a non-US citizen who is currently applying for Boston University. However, I have confusion about the Confidential Statement for Financing Studies & Sponsorship Support Confirmation. It requires me to include BU ID number in the applicant information section, I do not know where can I attain it.

    this video calmed my nerves down a bit, thanks!! i'm a senior, definitely applying to BU for fall 2018 admission! i feel like my test scores will hinder my chance of admission since they're kinda low, but i'm taking them again and hoping they go up. what is your major and what do you think of BU now that you've been there for awhile? x

    • @JakeBrewerMusic
      @JakeBrewerMusic  6 лет назад

      aw, i'm so glad it could help! don't worry about too much. BU looks at you overall, nothing specific. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT HERE! the community feeling in a big city is incredible, and there's so many opportunities that I've had to turn down things that I've been interested in. There's something for everybody here! As excited as I am to go back home for the holidays, it's sad to think I'll be away from Boston for a month! That's how much I love it here!

    What BU specifically look for? What do you think is a major factor which got you in apart from essays or personal statement?

    • @JakeBrewerMusic
      @JakeBrewerMusic  7 лет назад +2

      My understanding is that BU looks not only at certain things, but your general portfolio. They're looking for involvement. It's a huge school with many opportunities, so they want to know you'll take advantage of as much as you possibly can. I think a major factor in my application was how descriptive I was during the essay question about why I wanted to apply to BU. Do thorough research and be specific with your response to show them how interested you really are in BU specifically.

    well...everyone got a 30 in ACT except me....I'm an international students and I went to Michigan for high school for over 3 and an half year. I took ACT once at the end of 2016 and I got a score of 24..... But I have an UW GPA of 3.85 and a straight A for the first semester of my senior year, and I also got a score of 5 on AP Calc exam this year. I applied ED of college of art & science for Math major. I don't know if it will help but I really indicated the passion I have in math on my Personal Statement. Getting into BU seems impossible for me cause my ACT score is much lower than the average. Anyway what've done is done, the notification will come out on next Friday so.... wish me luck : )

    • @JakeBrewerMusic

      AP scores come out after admission decisions, so they aren't considered in your application. I didn't take any subject tests and they don't require them. I received a 1340 on my SAT, which is about the average for BU admissions. Let me know if there's anything else I can help with or if you have any other questions!

    Hi, I’m a sophomore in high school. I’d really like to do pre med here! I’m only taking one ap this year and no honors. However, I’m a year ahead in mathematics and taking two sciences one being AP bio. I currently have a 3.87 unweighted gpa and 4.0 weighted. What type of classes should I take next year?

    • @ethanstechworld207
      @ethanstechworld207 3 года назад

      I imagine now you are going into your Junior year based on when you wrote this. I wouldn't worry that you were only taking 1 AP class as a sophomore because usually the AP/IB classes are for when you are a junior and senior. I say challenge yourself a bit, if you know what you want to study in college, but you could do some AP classes based on that, or you could do AP classes for the subjects that you are the best at out of the classes you take. The big thing is challenge yourself, I toured BU and not only this school but so many look at how challenging your classes are. Someone could get the perfect gpa with zero AP classes, but then they could see someone else who got a lower gpa but hand some AP classes in their schedule and pick them. Challenge yourself, it'll be not only beneficial to the colleges that see your application but also simply for yourself.

    • @JakeBrewerMusic
      @JakeBrewerMusic  7 лет назад +2

      hi evan! i applied regular decision. the best piece of advice i can give is simple, and that's if BU is your top choice, then apply early decision. you will be enrolled if accepted, so i recommend it only if it's your top choice because they are more accepting during this period. if you are still considering other schools, there is nothing wrong with regular admission. that's what i did and it doesn't make any sort of difference once you arrive. let me know if i can answer anything else for you!

    • @evanespinoza5270
      @evanespinoza5270 7 лет назад

      Jake Brewer thank you for the quick response! I would love to apply early decision because it is my dream school, however, I plan to go to school for about 10 years so I can't really get any sort of debt from my undergraduate degree. My worry with the early decision is that I'll be locked into their financial aid package as well as being admitted. Do you think the benefits outweigh the risks?

    • @JakeBrewerMusic
      @JakeBrewerMusic  7 лет назад

      of course! i'm happy to help. i'm not 100% sure how financial aid works with early decision, but i would assume you would be inclined to accept whatever financial aid is offered. if BU is your #1 school and offers everything you want, then i would recommend it. it is tough financially, but i was offered quite a bit of aid and assistance to make the payment plan work. talk over it with your family and make sure it's an economical and practical decision. i love BU so far and think it'd be a good choice if you're interested.
