    Wow, thank you for sharing. You're an exceptional student, and Harvard is lucky to have you. Your extracurriculars are also normal and realistic because so many create nonprofits and companies. This is unrealistic as many students can't afford this. It's clear you're passionate, and it's easy to see why Harvard accepted you. Please continue vlogging.

    Hey! I want to get into Harvard for a biomedical engineering and public health major. I am currently a junior in high school, and I am concerned about the lack of Ap's, and the late junior year start on all of my EC's. This happened because I immigrated from Honduras on my late freshman year and had to adjust to the educational system, etc,etc. On my sophomore year I had to work 20 hours a week to contribute to the family budget, and when our financial situation got better my parents encouraged me to stop working and pursue my passions. I am currently giving it my all on my junior year, but I am concerned they will reject me for my lack of commitment. The lack of AP's is due to most of my credits in Honduras were not accredited for high school in the U.S.
    What tips do you have? Do you think I can get accepted? How do I maximize my chances? THANKSSS

    This is a great video. I live in southern Alabama, and we have a population under 10,000 where I live. We do not have opportunities or clubs like this, so does this mean that I do not have much of a chance to get into one of these prestigious colleges?

    • @HelenPiltner
      @HelenPiltner  Месяц назад +1

      Don't worry! You don't have to participate in certain research or clubs to get into your dream college. As long as you pursue activities truly meaningful to you, that is what matters. You could start your own school club, volunteer with local communities, or even start a non-profit!

    Hello 🙃how were you able to graduate early at 16? Did you take college classes online? Or through a program? And I assume theres a difference between taking so much advanced classes that you graduate early at the same level as a senior, rather than graduating early and "dropping out" of high school without taking those advanced classes that can hurt your college app? (Like getting a ged) thank u and i love ur vids!!!

Her cousin went to Princeton and is now in her final year of residency training so she wants to follow her footsteps. 😀 She is pretty bright and skipped 4th grade. Thank you so much for the video! I have been thinking about graduating early, but people warn me that it would hurt my chances of getting into Harvard, MIT or Stanford since I will only have two full years of transcripts (G9 & 10). Could you kindly advise me on this since you have gone through the process. For background information, I am dual citizen of China and US, and I have been attending an international school in Asia. I just finished G9 and I took 4 APs (Calculus AB, Computer Science Principles, Physics 1 and Chemistry and got all 5s on the AP exams). In addition to 4APs, I also took A Level Math (should be getting A*), Honors English, Honors Chinese, Honors Biology, Honors World History and Independent AI Research with a university professor. I got straigh A+ on all 10 subjects. For G10, I will take 7 APs (including Calculus BC, Physics C, Biology, Computer Science A, English Language, US History), 3 dual enrollment classes, and Independent AI Research at a local university (hoping to publish a paper as the first author with the professor). As you can see, I will run out of courses to take at my high school at G11. I plan to take Linear Algebra, Multivariable Calculus, Quantum Mechanics and AI Research at a local university as well as some easier and less relevant (to my intened major) APs such as Chinese, Statistics, Environmental Science, Macro/Micro Economics, US Gov, etc. I will have 18 APs, 8 college courses and A Level Math at the end of G11. I intend to major in Math or Physics, and I have qualified for USAMO (AIME 12) and USAPhO (f=ma 15) this February as a 9th grader. Should I graduate and apply early? I will also apply to Oxford for its CS+Math program. Thank you in advance for your kind assistance!

      @@johnhuang3671 i’m not a harvard admissions officer and i’m just a high schooler like you so take my advice w a grain of salt. usually spots at any US university is reserved for domestic applicants. You’re clearly a lot smarter than 99% of domestic applicants, but colleges are businesses. Course load rigor is great but you’d need to be the best in your country to earn admission to an Ivy/MIT/Stanford which means winning huge competitions/doing extracurriculars. If you want to go to college in the US, look at universities that are international friendly/offer full rides to internationals that aren’t crazy competitive. The fact is, so many domestic applicants get rejected, and I’m sure they give less of a chance to international ones. I don’t say this to discourage you, by all means, keep doing what you’re doing/doing your best, but just letting you know!

    I have so many issues with the American admissions system...if a 16 year old achieved so much by that age (research, music, advanced courses, extra curricular) where was the time to play, be a child, a teenager? When these young over achievers look back I wonder if they will regret missing out on their childhood.

      @@HelenPiltner I guess being European (living in the US) it really does not make sense to me, what explains this rush to be done with school credit and being overworked in so many activities? These kids are trading their youth to subscribe to a system that rewards work over talent an curiosity. Students get into college burned out and most of them just want to graduate and go to finance or some other high paying job, instead of pursuing knowledge (contrasting with their teenage years in which they are all involved in research!). This system is breaking kids and it needs to be reformed, for instance universities should not accept more than 3 APs and also should not value more than one ec etc. There is a lot to unpack, but changes are needed.

    • @kathryn7739
      @kathryn7739 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@andrycrisiana sadly, a lot of admits don’t have normal childhoods because they have pressure to succeed and get into a top university. I agree that it is not right. Kids feel obligated to accomplish all this “stuff” in order to get accepted.
