      My favorite things/ past memories while I attended Boston University as a grad student was going to chapel service at Marsh Chapel, visiting the Howard Thurman Center which I heard they just moved into a new building. It was at the George Sherman Union when I was there, & going to the Beanpot Tournament. I also think BU West has the best dining hall & view looking at Nickleson Field is gorgeous. I definitely miss BU & the City of Boston. Great times.

    Hi Corretta! Thank you for creating content that exposes students to your perspective of college life at BU. I am interested in applying in the fall but idk if I’ll qualify because in the first semester of junior year which was last semester I received an F in my algebra class but I retook the class and got an 88. This semester I received all A’s but do you think I’ll still have a chance in getting accepted even though I have that F burden

    • @ladydominion8632
      @ladydominion8632 4 года назад +2

      It’s definitely possible. I went to a BU seminar and they explained that what they look for in your grades is not necessarily the grade itself, but whether you have improved and challenged yourself overtime; going from having an F to then getting all As shows definite improvement. Additionally, they really look at your essay-so really work hard on this. Furthermore, if you have any extracurricular or anything like that (and I mean anything seriously sometimes you have to just exaggerate and make something sound more prestigious and professional than it actually is) put that on there too. Hope this helps :)

    • @corettagranberry9925
      @corettagranberry9925  4 года назад +3

      I completely agree! I got a C in math my sophomore year of high school and I thought that would be the end of my career but your grades do not define you and I think college admissions are starting to see that even more now. As long as you can show you work hard, (bringing that grade up definitely did) and that you're involved in various activities you'll probably be fine. Applying to college is like the first real experience of having to sell yourself as a person, and it's really kind of weird, but it's such good practice for the rest of your life when you need to get an internship/job. If you can communicate whatever you do, regardless of what it is, in a way that shows your passion will go so much farther than a couple of letters on a report card.

    How hard is it to change majors/schools within BU?

    • @corettagranberry9925
      @corettagranberry9925  4 года назад +2

      Hi! Sorry I am just now seeing this. It's much harder to change schools than it is to change majors, but even then I don't think it's impossible. I know a lot of people who changed majors multiple times a semester until they landed on something they actually liked, but you definitely want to talk to an advisor or upperclassmen so you don't end up taking more classes than you need. It's going to be harder if you want to change from like biology to mechanical engineering than it would be to change from biology to chemistry or something, but I think that probably will apply to any school.

    • @corettagranberry9925
      @corettagranberry9925  4 года назад +2

      Hi! I am actually an environmental science minor. I am not sure where BU ranks compared to other schools but I really like the minor and the department in general. Here's more specific information on the major: www.bu.edu/earth/about/ and www.bu.edu/academics/cas/programs/earth-environment/ba-in-earth-environmental-sciences/ As you can see there are tons of classes to choose from. There used to be a very well loved study abroad program to Ecuador that was a part of the Earth and Enviro major/minor but since coronavirus happened it's up in the air what will happen with that moving forward (but you can do the marine semester and go to Belize still!). Also, if you choose to go to BU, you should also check out the Environmental Student Organization, there are some very lovely people in that club. Hope this helped!

      Hi Christopher, congrats on getting into BU! Freshman year my class sizes were pretty big (200 ish ppl) since I was taking mostly gen-eds like chemistry and biology. I had to take writing 100 and 150 and those classes were always capped at abut 15 people though which was a really nice. As you get further in college and into higher level classes the class sizes get much smaller (20-30 ppl). Hope this helped!

    • @corettagranberry9925
      @corettagranberry9925  3 года назад +2

      It's great that you're starting early with your interest in going to college! In my opinion, you can never be overinformed when it comes to picking the right school for you. Unfortunately, I'm not an expert on college admissions and (assuming India's 8th grade is the same as American 8th grade) I will be even farther removed from the undergraduate admissions process by the time you get ready to apply. However, there's TONS of resources online to learn about applying to college in America. There is also a good amount of people from India at BU, so maybe you can find a way to get in contact with someone who came here from where you're from and ask them more specific questions about their experience. Best of luck and thank you for watching my video!

    • @ethanstechworld207
      @ethanstechworld207 3 года назад

      Yes!! Good on ya for starting early!!! Don't ever think that it's a mistake to start dipping your feet in early. You are already ahead of most people that surround you. I toured BU when I believe I was a freshman and I toured another college in Boston and I think I was the youngest person. And visiting from across the country. As someone who will be a senior in high school in just a couple months enjoy high school, as weird as that sounds, be there for those experiences and look to the future. I'm SO excited.

    do freshman normally get single rooms?

    • @corettagranberry9925
      @corettagranberry9925  4 года назад +2

      amaya davis There are very few single dorms available in freshman housing, but it is possible to get one. To be honest I don’t really remember how room selection worked going into my freshman year but from what I remember, they usually go first to people who have an illness or other demonstrated need for a single, then whatever’s left is on a first come first serve basis I think. They also cost a few thousand more than a double dorm room.

    Here is my question, what is it like being a black girl attending BU?
    My daughter recently was accepted literally today, but she really wants to go to a hbcu, but they dont give anymore money, whereas BU damn near gave her a full ride , but she us very skeptical because as she says she is tired of being 1 out of 4 in a classroom, and she wants that hbcu blk experience, can u elaborate more on the blk exp at BU?

    • @mikaylacole6058

      i have the same question

    • @corettagranberry9925
      @corettagranberry9925  3 года назад

      I actually had a similar experience although I was not super passionate about going to an HBCU like your daughter sounds like she is. I got into Spelman and was really excited about getting the HBCU experience, but they gave me almost no financial aid whereas BU gave me enough to cover everything except housing. I would've had to pay the full tuition in student loans, so it was immediately out of the question. BU does have a small black population, but it's definitely there. If your daughter ends up going here, I would encourage her to join UMOJA (the black student union) and Sister's United. There's also the African Students Organization if you're of African heritage. There's also other ways to meet black people outside of BU in the greater Boston community. As a black woman, I've had a great experience at BU but it definitely doesn't compare to an HBCU. My biggest issue with diversity hasn't been with the student body but with the faculty and staff. If your daughter wants to make black friends, I think she will have no problem doing so. If your daughter wants to see black leadership and have black professors, she probably won't find that here.

      @@BrownskinbambiRN Yes, I'm a senior at BU now so I will be graduating this May. Academically, I feel very fulfilled. When I first got here, I felt underprepared and overwhelmed by the rigor of the academics. However, through the years I've come to really appreciate how hard the classes are. I find the professors to be extremely knowledgeable in their subject and for the most part, are always willing to talk with students to help them succeed in their class. I actually wish I knew that earlier because if I knew that my professors actually wanted to see their students succeed I would not have been so scared to ask for help in my earlier years. Some classes are harder than others (Chem 101 and 102 still haunt me!) but I think you definitely get out of it what you put into it. Just this past week I found out I got into graduate school, so I am very pleased with everything that BU has given me in terms of academic, career, and personal growth.
