Valheim's Secret New Feature (Setkey Commands)

  • As part of the Hildir's Request update, the world modifiers feature was added, allowing you to customise aspects of the game, such as combat difficulty and Greydwarf head flower colour. Today we look at the dev commands that govern these settings and how we can use these commands to get some insane results. Some of these commands are useful, while others are for fun. This of course, led to the development of Valheim's first racing league AKA Mario Kart in Valheim!
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Commands
Setkey EnemySpeedSize (percentage without the percentage sign)
Changes both enemy speed and size to the percentage of their original sizes. Creatures that have already spawned in will only change in speed, meaning that you can use this command once to give creatures the size you wish, followed by spawning in the creatures you'd like and then using the command again to change their speed.
    E.g. Commands for racing Loxes:
    Setkey EnemySpeedSize 20
    spawn lox
    tame
    spawn saddlelox
    Setkey EnemySpeedSize 300
(You can go faster than 300% but your lox is also more likely to fall through the ground)
Setkey EnemyDamage (percentage without the percentage sign)
This command affects all creature damage towards players and other creatures, but not to structures and the environment.
E.g. Setkey EnemyDamage 200 to double creature damage.
Setkey PlayerDamage (percentage without the percentage sign)
This command actually just modifies creature HP inversely to the value that you choose.
E.g. Setkey PlayerDamage 200 to halve creature HP.
Setkey StaminaRate (percentage without the percentage sign)
This command modifies all stamina use.
E.g. Setkey StaminaRate 0 to disable stamina.
Setkey MoveStaminaRate (percentage without the percentage sign)
This command modifies stamina use in the same way as the previous command, but only for movement-related stamina use such as running and jumping.
E.g. Setkey MoveStaminaRate 200 to double stamina use from movement.
Setkey StaminaRegenRate (percentage without the percentage sign)
Values greater than 100 increase the speed at which stamina regenerates
E.g. Setkey MoveStaminaRate 200 to double stamina regeneration.
    SetKey DungeonBuild (no number)
Allows building in dungeons, such as smouldering tombs, sunken crypts, and infested mines.
SetKey ResourceRate (percentage without the percentage sign)
Multiplier to the drop rates of most items from the environment and creatures (except trophies). Exactly like the World Modifiers option.
E.g. Setkey ResourceRate 300 to triple the number of items dropped from creatures and the environment.
SetKey EnemyLevelUpRate (percentage without the percentage sign)
Multiplies the chance of encountering starred creatures. In the wild, creatures that have starred variants have a 10% chance of a creature having stars, with 10% of those starred creatures having 2 stars (so 9% of creatures with 1 star and 1% of creatures with 2 stars)
SetKey EnemyLevelUpRate 200 would mean a chance 20% of a creatures having at least 1 star, and 20% of those with 2 stars (so 16% of creatures with 1 star and 4% of creatures with 2 stars). It doesn't actually make more enemies spawn like in the video, that was just for comedic effect.
SetKey EventRate (percentage without the percentage sign)
Affects both time between possible raid events and the probability that once occurs at these time intervals. Lower values mean more raids.
Normally every 46 mins there is a 20% chance of a raid occurring. SetKey EventRate 50 would halve the time between possible raid events and double the chance of one occurring, so every 23 mins there would be a 40% of a raid occurring.
As a formula, SetKey EventRate x would mean a possible raid occurring every 0.46*x mins, with a (20000/x)% chance.

Wow, my eyes widened when I saw the Valheim race. Speed racing in Valheim has a lot of potential. Is there a way to modify the iron and the night light so that they also subscribe to your channel, since I already used all the other options?

This is by far the best resource I've found which explains how to edit the difficulty settings via in game dev commands!
Bonus question, do you know if there is a way in game to check what a value as it currently?
As in, what is the current multiplier set to?
I've created a new world, downloaded locally and made some changes to the world modifiers and re-uploaded but I'm not sure if the changes has taken effect or if I missed something.

'listkeys' should be the command. I can see in the most recent patch they made changes to allow for setting world modifiers on dedicated servers, which sounds to me that you could now change the keys directly as admin. Not sure if it will help with what you're looking for but here are some of the patch notes:
      * World modifiers and presets can now be set to dedicated servers using parameters in the startup batfile (see manual) or using the console as an admin
      * Updated dedicated server manual to include information on setting world modifiers
      * Fixed modifier summary being displayed incorrectly after choosing the casual preset
      * Added player list to pause menu
      * Several more console commands are now available for admins: setworldpreset, resetworldkeys, setworldmodifier, players, setkey, removekey, resetkeys, listkeys (displays list on dedicated server), sleep, skiptime, restartparty and genloc (takes time - may cause disconnects).
      * Added -resetmodifiers startup parameter to dedicated servers
      * Added -resetknownitems non-cheat command for resetting items, recipes, and stations

@@BigBrianGameplay Thank you very much for the detailed response! listkeys shows me nothing, maybe I'm doing something wrong.
I didn't have the option before to setworldpreset but yesterday I could, not sure if there has been a patch or something.
Anyone, I won't make this into a troubleshooting session :P
Thanks again for the great video and response!

    lox racing looks good XD, actually i found that 'setkey enemydamage'This command seems to have readjusted the upper limit of creatures attacks,And only creatures that have already been generated will make changes, the world settings will not be modified;
I have been searching for a way to modify the difficulty level these days, just like the world modifier in standalone mode; But the world modifier is not work in private sever,im going to try the way that replace maps; hmmm ... but i wonder that is there any methods to change the world's difficulty easiler, likes modifying a config file?
    and the demmands 'players [nr]' seems do not work;
The instructions you shared are very useful, I like them

Are you on the Ashlands test version? I used the command pretty recently before the update dropped and it was still working then. Haven't tried since. If they removed it, they'd need to replace it with something else because it's used in the world modifiers settings for when you change combat difficulty.

ngl devs working 2 hours per week on this game, they dont care anymore. one biome after 2 years, after few next months this update which is really small and add things thats been in mods for years, im sure we need to wait at least to the next year or even next summer for ashlands

    • @BigBrianGameplay
      @BigBrianGameplay  9 месяцев назад +1

For me, I think the time it takes until the Ashlands coming out will decide how I feel about it.
At the moment I have a pretty boring, fencesitting opinion that so far the updates have been on the slow side but it's not yet so bad that I think they don't really care. It helps that the way the game works that even without mods I've found a lot of replayability in it .
I have joked about Ashlands not coming out until 2027, but for all we know they've got a lot more of it done than we think, and the test version will drop a year after Mistlands did (so this October or so?). If it doesn't come out until mid 2024 or so then yeah I'll be wondering what they've been doing the whole time haha
