HS 720R instructions. Page 21 line 7. Keep the phone away from the drone until after everything is calibrated. Then bring the phone to the RC controller and put the phone in the RC controller. My friend said that his HS 720 was acting stupid. I recalibrated it the right way and it has flown right every time.
I have a 720 and a 720G and after trashing the first 2 the same exact way you lost that one. I learned how to fix this. Do the calibration before EVERY flight, then take it 5 feet off the ground and let it hover for 10 or 15 seconds, if it drifts even an inch while hovering there, land it and calibrate it again. If it's right, it will hover like it's sitting on a table. I destroyed 2 drones in 10 flights before I learned this and my favorite(the replacement 720G) now has 40 or 50 flights on it and the original props... not a scratch. My only complaint about it is range. In the suburbs with lots of houses and plenty of chances for 5G interference I can only get about 700 or 800 ft away before it loses signal. The RTH works well though so it's really good about finding it's way back.
I had the same problem and it was happening on every flight. Luckily I'm an electronic engineer and have it fixed. I have photos but cant add them here. The GPS unit is very sensitive to noise from the main PCB and motors. The toilet bowling is worse with higher speed settings. you need to remove the top of the drone. You will see the GPS module is connected to the main PCB via a multi cable connector. Remove the connector the other device on the sponge is the compass. The GPS module is covered with black tape. This has metal in it and is used as a shield. Ensure this is pressed down firmly all round the module. I then had some sticky backed copper so I added another layer of shielding. On top of this. Finally a layer of electrical tape on top to prevent copper shorting off main PCB. Flies on a pin head now. :)
I also had the exact experience. I have been flying drones for over 7 years, have a number of videos on my youtube page so I am not new at this. Have had Many drones from Holy Stone long before they started using brushless motors. Though they were never the highest of quality they were priced well. NEVER before have i had one loose control until the HS720R !!! I was asked to remove my 1 star review as they said they would look into this and replaced my 720 with a different model. I did this, but not think after seeing so many videos and reviews showing this danger of lost control and drones crashing I figure it is just a matter of time before someone or something is seriously hurt or damaged. I Always do every calibration at the site I am flying and did the day mine lost control. It started out great, hovered perfectly and was flying great. Then about 1/2 way through my flight it started to circle. Long story kept short, total loss of control even emergency stop ! was near a school and shopping center, a place I have flown for years, luckily it decided to crash into the trees. SOMETHING is wrong even if it only happens to one person ! Contacting Holy Stone is useless as they come up with reasons why it may of happened, all pointing to the operator and Holy Stone not taking the blame or offering a software fix, sad. To those that have had no problems that is great, but for the one that ends up in trouble not so great. Hope they take this serious and make changes before someone is hurt. Thanks so much for doing your video. Now lets hope others see it before they order.
It really is a shame, I love their drones when they work, but unfortunately that’s the issue!…they’re not reliable at all, at least the 700 series…I totally agree with ya, I don’t want anyone to get injured when they go out of control!
Two things I see that will cause the toilet bowl are as follows. 1. When calibrating make sure to be at least 4 feet off the ground. You won't get a clean GNSS signal if you are down low when you calibrate the drone. 2. Also, make sure you phone is not close when calibrating the drone. This will cause interference when calibrating the GNSS Signal. I haven't had any issues with my drone so far...crossing my fingers.
I have to say owning this drone (the HS720G) has been one of the most frustrating experiences of my life. I was so happy to get it on eBay for $125 considering it lists for $300. If I had paid $300 for this drone I would literally drive to Holy Stone headquarters and be banging on their door saying "what in the hell is this crap?" I mean for one it has a mind of its own it would be hovering nice and stable and then all of a sudden out of nowhere it would just jerk about 3 ft or 4 ft to the right and as time went on it got to be 7 8 or 10 ft to the right or left or up or down or whatever just has a freaking mind of its own. I wasn't even touching the sticks and it just jerked all over the place all by itself, doesn't make for good photography at all. Other times it would just take off flying in one direction and refuse to respond to any of my control inputs one time it flew across the road about an inch off the ground in front of a car while I was holding the altitude stick down trying to land and land it land land it... but it wouldn't land. It took a crash to stop it, thank God that car didn't hit it. Perhaps if it did it would have saved me from any more misery, I wanted so badly for it to work. Just like many others with this complaint...I did the calibration before EVERY flight. Another thing is it has no range at all, one day recently I was standing literally (according to the distance measure inside the app) 49 ft from the drone with a clear shot to it and it was only 5 ft off the ground and it lost the signal. It has literally the worst range of any drone I have ever flown. I have bought toy drones that have better range. The specs say 999 meters... which is a kilometer, but in my experience it cannot go further than about 125 yards. The maximum I have ever seen it go is about 200 yards and then here lately I can only get it out to about 50 yards before it starts to try to return home I mean come on! Total garbage. It has no obstacle avoidance so when it tries to return home if it's under something it will just crash into it and fall to the ground. Not a very good feature for complex environments. Basically the only place you can safely fly it is in an open field. The other big complaint I have about it is that it's dangerous!! After one of the many flyaways I've had, I've gone up to it and it was flipped upside down but the props are just spinning at full speed throwing up all kinds of dirt into the motors... I held the lock button down for five seconds which is supposed to stop the props from spinning but they just kept on spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning it even after after I wiggled my finger in there to get it on the power button to try to turn it off, but it wouldn't turn off! I had to literally Force the stops to prop spinning (and boy did that hurt!) I had to try and remove the battery with the props spinning chopping up my hand to get this thing to shut off. If this had happened to a child or something that could be a serious liability issue. This drone is a danger to the public. Every time I try to fly it, I get so nervous that it's going to fly away like it has so many times and hurt someone. I'm not going to go on any further but as you can see I'm not happy with it and I would encourage you to stay away from it.
Try putting your phone on airplane mode and only using wifi. My hs 720g wouldn't transmit video to my phone until I did that. It's annoying, but maybe it'll help with the toilet bowling.
I commented before on my drone working fine but spoke too soon LOL. This same thing happened to me yesterday. It was flying fine for the first 7 or 8 flights. It started to toilet bowl and it hit the trees and was stuck. I recovered it but now I'm a little sketchy on taking it up and doing some distance again. Not the experience I was expecting for this drone. This is a good video you did to give people the heads up on it.
Me too: Mine arrived from Amazon UK today. Never flown one before so very cautious. I did EXACTLY what the manual said. The auto-take-off is supposed to lift to 3ft and hover: At the First auto-lift-off mine SHOT straight up diagonally to face height (6ft), traversed about 10 feet and started wobbling around. I quickly pressed auto-land and it slowly came down, spent ages "hunting" around for a place to touch down (ignoring all the flat paving), then finally selected the rough lawn. The rotors kept going as it sank in, chopping the grass up, until it flipped over. I carried on trying to use it for about ten minutes and its behaviour was mostly (not entirely) erratic and disappointing. I'm underwhelmed !
I found this video as I am trying to troubleshoot my recently purchased HS720R. Learned the new term "toilet bowl". Yup, after two short flights, started to toilet bowl on the 3rd flight, and then I had to do the emergency stop and recover it. After which, now the wi-fi does not work. The transmitter will sync up with the drone, but then there is no wi-fi signal to the smartphone. I called HS and they said, return it under warranty. Not sure if I want another Holy Stone product, after reading all the comments, maybe need a different drone. Darn it, the 3 axis camera took awesome video and pics. If there is a recommendation of a good quality drone out there for less than $ 500.00 , please advise.
I hope they were rewarded. Landscapers returned the drone I lost at the park. A phone number, meticulously and permanently painted on the side of the drone helped. Most people aren't in need of errant drones. Gratuity is good.
I almost bought an HS and went with DJI. No wi-fi setup and it syncs up in seconds to their logging software and triggers another flight logger all automatically and it is a joy.
I was wondering why this supposedly Holystone "flagship" had a $200 off coupon in Amazon listings. So glad I watched this video before I made a mistake and bought it. Much appreciated.
Check the controller to see if there is a gps on/off switch. If the R starts to toilet bowl , quickly turn off the GPS and fly it back manually. It's not a cure but you may get the drone back safely.
I’m glad I saw this review, I’ve seen a couple of others and was literally about to buy one of these drones from Amazon, it’s actually in my basket as I write this , it won’t be when I’ve finished that’s for sure 😂, thanks for the video 👍👍🤠
I have had my 720G for a year now. At first it would drift once in awhile. I flow it today for the first time in several months and had the exactly same problem ….. five times in a row. Yes, I did calibrate the drone and had 15 to 17 satellites. I did not lose it as I was just in my back yard! I just read the comments below and will try multiple calibrations. Thanks for the info and for posting this video!
having that metal watch on your arm doesn't help when calibrating and you should never calibrate a drone being so close to the ground as there is magnetic interfearance in the ground also,im not saying there isn't something up with the drone but you never know as getting rid of those issues may have helped with the calibration.
First Flight It took off to about 2ft off the ground and took off screaming with no response from the controls. I hit the propeller off button but it kept going until it slammed into a brick wall 30 ft away still unde4 2ft. Broke a propeller but I doubt I would have tried to fly it again because I'm in a wheelchair and I feel lucky that It took off to my right instead of coming directly at my face because I'm not very capable to get out of the way in a hurry and the speed it hit that wall was intense. Very dangerous
I have very same issue with 720R. Calibrate, set flight, a few minutes into flight the drone fly's off and crashes, happened @2X. I will try to trick below with the "test hover", then see if I need to recalibrate again. Currently glueing my drone back together, do know how well anything will work again.
I have an older Holystone drone. Two of the same model. One of the kamakazied into wall but that was because I flew too close to a buildings electrical box.... But never had the problem you and everyone else are talking about. I will get the exact model if you want when I get home.
My guess is that second calibration (gyro calibration) which is not in the user manual, I believe that's what happened to my last drone (a $256.99 loss) when I did that step. It is possible that you use the gyro calibration if you're doing this indoors.
11:18 I'll be honest with you even after the recalibration it didn't look that stable to me, while you were showing the basic control it was like a wobbling goblin 😮
Holy crap, I've got a very similar video of my HS720G doing the same thing. Toilet bowl while losing altitude until it hit a tree. Now I have a Mini 4 Pro and wow, what a difference.
Hi NitroZ18, was there any follow up from Holy Stone regarding this problem? I have the HS720 and it flies well on ATTI with and without FPV. GPS on is whole other experience, it toilet bowls out of all control every single time and crashes even with 19 sats locked in! Simply can't fly this anywhere near people or property with GPS on, which means I can't use any of the useful features that lead me to buy it, like RTH!
AFTER SHOPPING FOR 2 WEEKS THIS WAS GOING TO BE MY CHOICE UNTILL I SAW THIS VIDEO. SO THANK YOU FOR SAVING ME FROM THE FRUSTRATION/ANGER AND THE LOSS OF MONEY! THIS IS WHY I Research ALMOST EVERYTHING I PURCHASE!
Really nice people .I was getting ready to buy that model thanks for your honesty and not keep comparing everything to DJI,DJI this and that thank you again I'll shop around to😊
Thanks for the video. I just got a HS720R drone and now wondering if this was a mistake. No flights yet batteries charging. I hope you post the reply once Holy Stone gives you a response. Thanks again.
No prob, thanks for watching!…I’m actually still waiting on a refund, I’m not too happy at this point…I’ll update the channel as soon as I get the final resolution…I hope ya have better luck than me, keep us posted on how ya make out!
I have the HS 720R and I have great luck with it. I saw that you're not following the calibration instructions for one thing. Keep the phone away from the drone until after everything is calibrated. Then bring the phone to the RC controller.
I want a drone for surf fishing bait dropping. I keep trying to talk myself into getting a HS drone, but I also see MANY people with these random issues. The last thing I need is a drone going nuts over the ocean. I think I'm going to get a DJI Air 3 instead.
looked to me like return to home was working until you started moving the joysticks....I believe during "return to home", any input on the remote will cancel it out...at least it does on my GPS drones.... now I don't have a Holy Stone, so I could be wrong.
Mine did that yesterday, I was inspecting a property ready to roof clean and I raised the drone to 4 stories high and it just went forward at full speed into the building and the 2 A arms broke and I genuinely thought I did something until I've seen videos like yours of it happening to others, they are brutal to get hold of and also like a fool I've emailed them to to purchase replacement parts out of my own money
I got an HS720 as a gift & it did fine until my son crashed it breaking the right front arm, waiting 2 weeks for it to get here from China, my problem was the white coating on the solder points that i couldn't remove & every attempt from Holy Stone to aid in repair failed, so I'm probably goona use it as target practice
“Its a great drone other than the fact 3 of them have toilet bowled and flown away” All these cheap drones are not so cheap and way more trouble than they are worth. All the time spent just trying to get it to work and chasing it down is time not spent doing what you bought it for. So glad I decided to just spend the money and get a 4 pro. Not a single regret especially after seeing more videos like this one. Thanks for the entertainment
Had a similar problem with a HS 720G in that it just took off on it's own and disappeared never to be seen again. HolyStones Customer Care was first class and quickly supplied another but that also seemed reluctant to do what I wanted it too. I also have an HS120 which is a little better behaved but once bitten and all that so now I stick to my DJI drones.
I have to tell you something I had 19 satellites in my dji mini 3 and when I toke off it started to do the toilet bowl thingy and it crashed into a house the drone is still fine too I had a mini 2 se and never had that problem (same happened with my hs260 last year and lost it)
When you hit the ground the vibrations likely caused the accelerometer to error and cause the instability it is related to altitude hold being turned on.
Hello, I have an older HD 720E and it works well but it dsnt have distance. I just bought a DJI but I cant fly it due to restrictions. So WTH?? I was looking at the EVOs but same thing with flying restrictions ! Dont know which drone to get now but I am returning the DJI...
I have the hs720 and it does the same thing it's really hard to get it to stop doing that once it starts. It's even more scary when you're flying it at night I almost hit somebody's house with it one time. They gotta fix that toilet 🚽 issue.
I got it all from Xtrusion Overland, they’re one of our channel sponsors!…check them out, best bed racks on the market, hands down…I have a few videos here on the channel showing how to install the rack and all the accessories, including the tent if it’ll help…feel free to use our channel discount code on their website, it’s good sitewide (even on tents and accessories)…the code is NitroZ18…Hope that helps!
is there a firmware update that should be updated once getting it, just curious. Amazon right now has good deal on this model right now $100.00 off bringing to 249.99. I am just looking for beginner drone with at least 4k 30fps and at least 2/3 axis gimbal, in which 720R checks this and under 250 now on amazon. So if any other drones with 3 axis gimbal and 4k 30fps let me know here.
I got a 720R last week. I live in the UK. The exact same thing happened to me: I sent it back to amazon, and I thought it was literally going to kill someone getting a dji instead
I wish I seen this before I bought it. It’s supposed to show up tomorrow. I’ll try it out and see how it works. I was hoping all the kinks were worked out by now but I see your video is only 2 weeks old. I got it because my girlfriend and I are taking a road trip up to Hearst castle and I thought a drone would be perfect. I should have just coughed up the extra hundred bucks and got the DJI mini 2… 😒
Hopefully you’ll have better luck than me!…it’s a shame, it’s such a great drone when it works properly, let me know how ya make out and have fun on your trip!
My wife gave me a HS720 and I was really excited about it. I flew it 4 or 5 times and had no issues. Yesterday I flew it again and out of the blue started flying on its own and I completely lost control of the drone and crashed into a tree. Drone was still working but I could not get the propellers to stop by pressing the lock button. Still works but I can’t get the WiFi to show up. Tried several different IPhones and IPads so the WiFi module it’s toasted. Holy Stone keeps not fixing what’s wrong with it. They are offering a replacement but they are sending the same model and it’s pretty much guaranteed the same thing will happen. It will take about a month to get the replacement and they are asking no to return it to Walmart because I’m sure they had their share of returns. Stay away from Holy Stone.
Yep, it’s a shame!…they kept wanting to replace mine with another of same model as well…I’ll be making an updated video to share what eventually happened with my situation, hope they get ya squared away with a refund!
720R is just a bad drone! …I recommend the HS600 From Holy Stone. I believe its been their most stable GPS Drone and its been great to me. I also went through 3 HS720R. They need to get that issue fixed big time!
Totally agree, I actually picked up a 600, loving it so far…my only complaint is the camera movement…one little tap on the “knob” and the camera moves very quickly…I can’t get it to tilt slow no matter how much I ease onto the tilt wheel
Apparently they have some bad units because I watched a ton of reviews on this and they either have problems or they fly perfect I got one coming I paid 170 bucks for it on temu and if it works right it will be a fantastic deal so we're going to give it a shot
I’m getting my remote Id for free from them but it’s not a deal. Holystone makes it seem like it is. By law, all manufacturers who sell a drone that’s over 5.5 pounds, must include a remote IID
I’ve owned three holy stones, 175d. 720,720e all have gps issues. Their range is terrible they toilet bowl and the batteries won’t last a year before swelling. Do yourself a favor get a DJI.
Oh wow this drone also copied the dji air 3 witch mines just keep circling around and the circles kept getting bigger and disappearing into thin air: this is FRIEND FOR THE AIR 3 Holystone and air 3 same doing the toilet bowling
Thanks for making this video. I had the same experience and thought I did something (the 720r is my first drone). This reassured me that it was actually a problem. Read a suggestion below that I am going to try, thanks @GuysPlayingWithTools for that.

Thanks for the feedback man, I appreciate it!
Yeah that's all well and good, but you shouldn't have to be doing that, if it's calibration is so flaky I'd have a problem trusting it 🤷🏻♂️

When I "talked" to holystone, it sounded like they were using some kind of AI translation program. It's essentially just a script.

Thank God we still have nice people in the world. Hat off to Max's and his family ❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely, they were such a nice family!!

Hello this is Max and Macy
Hey guys!!…I was hoping you saw the video, thanks again for helping me that day, I really appreciate it!! ❤️
It is very lucky to meet good people.
Especially a family!
That was a good and right thing to do, and I hope someone does same for you if you lose something.
Excellent pictures and nice people. Greetings to all of you from thousands of miles away.
So i have the 720e and mine did same thing, crashed and broke a arm.. what did holy stone end up doing for you?
I almost bought an HS and went with DJI. No wi-fi setup and it syncs up in seconds to their logging software and triggers another flight logger all automatically and it is a joy.
I’m eventually going the DJI route myself!
No there isn't
That was really nice of them to find your drone .
Absolutely!…very nice family!
having that metal watch on your arm doesn't help when calibrating and you should never calibrate a drone being so close to the ground as there is magnetic interfearance in the ground also,im not saying there isn't something up with the drone but you never know as getting rid of those issues may have helped with the calibration.
Yeah i was thinking there is alot of metal to that watch it may have influenced the compass calibration
Use a landing pad sand can get in your motors.
I took mine on its maiden flight. I like manual flying. The RTS button made mine fly higher. I had no issues. I hope mine does not run into problems
I have very same issue with 720R. Calibrate, set flight, a few minutes into flight the drone fly's off and crashes, happened @2X.
I will try to trick below with the "test hover", then see if I need to recalibrate again. Currently glueing my drone back together, do know how well anything will work again.
it seems to be a software issue with the gps, it does not happen here when gps is off
I have an older Holystone drone.

Yea these 720’s are brutal!
No prob, happy to help!
I wish I had. This is day 1 for me and it's got a mind of its own.
Every time the battery is removed it MUST be calibrated!!!!!! A super easy fix. HS720r is absolutely a great drone!!
Really nice people .I was getting ready to buy that model thanks for your honesty and not keep comparing everything to DJI,DJI this and that thank you again I'll shop around to😊
No prob, thanks for watching!
It’s crazy man, they need to figure that out before someone gets hurt!…hope ya have better luck going forward!
I returned my HS720G because of the toilet bowl thing. Every time it turned it would sway like 10 feet. Got the Mini 2 and it's perfect.
I got an HS600, this is my last attempt with Holy Stone before switching to DJI…so far so good but I’m not getting my hopes up just yet…haha
I got an HS720 as a gift & it did fine until my son crashed it breaking the right front arm, waiting 2 weeks for it to get here from China, my problem was the white coating on the solder points that i couldn't remove & every attempt from Holy Stone to aid in repair failed, so I'm probably goona use it as target practice
i bought a slightly used 720e,,,already had to replace a rear rotor,,,it does what it wants,,,,when it works,,i like it,,,,but a dji in my future
“Its a great drone other than the fact 3 of them have toilet bowled and flown away”
All these cheap drones are not so cheap and way more trouble than they are worth.
DJI will be my next move if my HS600 acts up!
Have they bothered to fix this dangerous issue or is it still a thing today
My first flight ended up in toilet bowl crash and I cannot get blades to turn off even when I land??? How do you do that?
Get a Potensic Atom, they fly great and don't go bezerk.
Where do you get that setup for your truck bed? Love that look
Same toilet issue with two of my hs720 g drones. Not sure why
is there a firmware update that should be updated once getting it, just curious.
Great video man 👍 I bought the HS 600
Thanks man, I appreciate it! I also now own the 600, definitely a better drone for sure!
wifi choices doesn't list holy stone on mine any ideas?
I got a 720R last week. I live in the UK. The exact same thing happened to me: I sent it back to amazon, and I thought it was literally going to kill someone getting a dji instead
Me too. Haven't sent mine back yet though.
Did you pick up the DJi?
I watched a few of these videos of the HS720G and HS720R and you are the first one to have such troubles!
I recommend you moving to DJI their cheapest is the mini 2 se and had it and 1 one still have ir
One of my good friends have a DJI, that’s gonna be my next move!
I had no idea they had flying issues, the biggest issue I see is footage quality.
So many better drones out there. Potensic got there sht together it seems. With the new Atom 3 Gim
MIne works excellent. had a few things at the start to get used to but i can fly it without worries.
That’s awesome, I’m glad you’re having better luck than I did!
I have the same problem that’s why I only buy DJI drone
720R is just a bad drone! …I recommend the HS600 From Holy Stone. I believe its been their most stable GPS Drone and its been great to me. I also went through 3 HS720R. They need to get that issue fixed big time!
Totally agree, I actually picked up a 600, loving it so far…my only complaint is the camera movement…one little tap on the “knob” and the camera moves very quickly…I can’t get it to tilt slow no matter how much I ease onto the tilt wheel
Same just happened to me today!
Apparently they have some bad units because I watched a ton of reviews on this and they either have problems or they fly perfect I got one coming I paid 170 bucks for it on temu and if it works right it will be a fantastic deal so we're going to give it a shot
If you have a hs720r and it gets stuck in 19 satellites (never use the drone and just restart everything)
14:43 that is frankly disappointing to put it mildly, I wouldn't touch it 😬
I’m getting my remote Id for free from them but it’s not a deal. Holystone makes it seem like it is. By law, all manufacturers who sell a drone that’s over 5.5 pounds, must include a remote IID
I actually didn’t know that, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the information, won't be waisting my money on this turd. DJI drones are the best I have two of them . AVATA 2, And Mini pro 4
Air plan mode an then WiFi. WiFi drones sometimes sucks
My HS 720 is awesome, reliable and flawless....it dont look anything like that 720 R
That same shit happend to.mine on the first flight at 100m. Right into a tree, gone forever.
Huge waste of money.
Too many stops to watch video???
I had a holystone hs260 and without a 24 hour of using that drone, it flew away on me and now I lost it (do not buy holystone products)
I’ve owned three holy stones, 175d. 720,720e all have gps issues. Their range is terrible they toilet bowl and the batteries won’t last a year before swelling. Do yourself a favor get a DJI.
That’s next if my HS600 acts up
Oh wow this drone also copied the dji air 3 witch mines just keep circling around and the circles kept getting bigger and disappearing into thin air: this is FRIEND FOR THE AIR 3 Holystone and air 3 same doing the toilet bowling
ANTTENA ISSUE CONECTIO LOSS
Mini 2 se
That’s where I may be heading!
@@NitroZ18Fishing Definitely recommend, its an incredible drone, doesnt toilet bowl at all, great camera, amazing range
I just have to say I wouldn’t buy this drone just because the image quality looks like garbage!
Why is that company still in business? They need to call themselves Holy Shite....pure junk.
Thanks for making this video. I had the same experience and thought I did something (the 720r is my first drone). This reassured me that it was actually a problem. Read a suggestion below that I am going to try, thanks @GuysPlayingWithTools for that.
