      It seems a lot of people here want to be park rangers because they like the outdoors and being in nature. If that's the case make that your hobby and do it on your own dime- not the tax payers. Being a ranger is a job not a way to get free money for your own hobby interests.

      Sam Smith what an ignorant thing to say. If there are parks there will be rangers and they will get paid regardless of who they are, so her not becoming a ranger isn't saving you a fucking penny. If she doesn't do it somebody else will. Also, people who enjoy what they're doing tend to be better at it and be friendlier people. And they don't waste their time being dumbasses and trolling the internet.

      Most government jobs require school, experience, or a combination of both. USA Jobs (usajobs.gov) is the website where the US Government posts jobs. Each job has a different pay grade, and as a student who has worked for the Government I can tell you that you can get seasonal jobs to help get your foot in the door. A maintenance ranger will have different qualifications than a protection ranger will. Permanent positions (GS-05/06 and up) usually require at least a Bachelor's degree (4 years) in Conservation Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field of study.

      They'll never hire you. The National Park Service hates Asians. Seriously though. Give me a break. Your race has nothing to do with it. If anything, your Asian roots and the fact that you are female may even help. It's a government job. They're always trying to fill jobs based on diversity. If you're a veteran that'll help even more.

You think those guys carrying ak47 in Kenya doing tours, managing guests, patrolling for poachers, and monitoring wildlife have a degree? Hire me..its not the paper but the passion for the work you need.

    • @gooseb77
      @gooseb77 5 лет назад +4

      As James said, there really is a lot more to it than simply answering questions. My declared major is Conservation and Wildlife Biology, Law Enforcement. The courses I take are a mix of various environmental biology courses to basic biology and criminal justice courses. You don't need to go to grad school to be an interpretive park ranger. You definitely do need it to become a wildlife biologist or any other research biology position. In fact, you basically need a doctorate. I'm two years into school and I've worked for the US Fish and Wildlife Service and I have a job for this next summer with the US Forest Service. We are expected to be experts in our field, and we are also expected to give people correct information. With my degree, I can be a Law Enforcement Ranger who can tell you what types of birds, mammals, reptiles, and vegetation you see around you. There really is more to it ;)

    Young men who are trying to become park rangers have EXTREME obstacles to overcome- a little encouragement seeing male role-models would have been nice. Since there are way more men than women who apply and women get special preference in the hiring process, there is only a 1 out of 300-600 chance a typical male applicant will get this extremely coveted job so they can support their wife and children.
