Realizing Valor Bard is really strong is maturing in 5e.
The problem is that people want to take the Bard and be as good as a fighter/ranger with weapons but that shouldnt even be possible right, class identity and all. The power of Valor isnt in an Extra attack lvl 6, its in the armor and shield proficiency and boosted Bardic Inspiration. Valors inspiration is the most powerful in the game because it can be used for all the normal rolls: save, attack roll, ability check, but then it adds onto that DMG roll (basically mini smite for your ally) or AC for a single attack (basically mini shield for one attack).
Look at every other Bard subclass, the inspiration is either a selfish use (swords bard) or a deblitator for an enemy. Valor is one of 2 subclasses for bard that actually enhance the ability for your teammates.
All while u rock around in halfplate and a shield while every other bard is gonna have 12-14 AC at best. And then after youve buffed everyone, casted some spells, you dont have to spam shitty Viscious Mockery to have an effect of the battlefield (although funny) you just swing your weapon twice. Add on the possibility of a magic weapon and you can do just fine in Melee. You shouldnt be outdoing martials in melee AND casting full spells from a strong list, Tashas Laughter, Dissonant Whispers, Nathairs mischief, plant growth, Hypnotic pattern, Psychic lance, Polymorph
ADD on top of that magical secrets at 10 for a pegasus and some other cool spell, wall of force, bigbys hand, Crusaders Mantle.
Valor bard is the ultimate 5e Support Caster Gish.

I don't understand all the focus on a melee valor bard. This bard could be using a heavy crossbow from the backlines. They can be close enough to support the melee characters with spells and not be at risk of dropping from a single attack.

@@frankbarbee3212 I agree, crossbow/ranged martial is superior. However; a few points, melee is more fun in general for most people (me included), you get to use shield and by extension magical shield (shield of spell absorption is one I had on my bard) so extra AC. My preferred fighting style for my Valor bard was actually a thrown weapon fighter atop a pegasus with a mjlnor type returning hammer
