It surprised me because...its a freaking dragon. This is a game where the only limits are the dice and my own creativity, of fucking course I wanna be a fucking dragon!
I always took the Dwarf/Halfling poison resistance as existing because both races drink heavily in most fantasy settings. Basically became resistant to alcohol poisoning.
The fact humans actually have quite decent night vision (after 15-25m of adapting that is) that can discern movement at about 300ft of range in darkness is hilarious given the whole darkvisiov differences 😂
Honestly Darkvision in DnD is more magic than biology, considering a character with Darkvision can still see even in pitch darkness. Humans and a lot of animals are adapted to see in low light, but there must still be SOME light.
No there are situations where you have ZERO light. Such as in a cave with no bioluminescence. Or just a couple hundred feet under water. With no light darkvision would work fine. Those races with darkvision still see better than humans cause low-light conditions, like you described at night with moon and start light? They'd see as if it were bright light.

2:00 Note though that since Tasha's got released (2020) all races can distribute their ability score improvements in whatever way they want (except base humans). Mordenkainen's (2022) also allows many formerly medium-sized races to also play as a small creature. It's mostly for flavor, but note that a small creature can ride a medium one which might be important for characters who have some sort of an animalistic companion (battle smith, beast master, drakewarden) and a lot of fairly cheap medium animals can also be used as mounts and still go into dungeons.
22:22 You know, kids, back in my day, intimidation was based on strength, not charisma. Which makes complete sense. You’re not intimidated by someone because they’re charming, but because you look at them and realise they could really mess you up. It was also the only dialogue skill that was based on strength at all, so that was a nice change - rather than having the one character with high charisma do absolutely *all* of the talking.

Somehow my favourite race blends perfectly with my favourite classes. Tiefling with +2 to charisma helps so much with sorcerers and bards and occasional warlocks
I home brewed a green dragonborn dwarf named Pudding Snatcher. Most of her abilities were dwarven but my dm let her keep her breath attack and resistance. She basically just looked like a dwarf size dragon born and I love her to bits.
had never played DnD before but wanted to get into it, designed a Tiefling Rogue and then I got BG3. Last minute when making her, I made her a sorceress and BOY did we have fun! (totally didn't romance a rogue or anything though *cough* *cough*) But honestly I loved Tieflings when I read up about them. I relate to them the most tbh.
I'm going to play D&D for the first time in the near future, and I was for sure going to go with Dragonborn. Seems like they're a bit weaker stats-wise, but they're just so cool.
Love your content! I hope there is more in the future! You are like a stand up comedian with the way you hold your mic, it's now who you are 😂 I am brand new to getting into roleplaying and made my kingdom map last night! Will you be covering non D&D brands too? I am trying to keep my options open with constructing my collection but mostly doing it via a tight budget. Thanks again for being yourself, it makes it easier for newbies like myself to ease our way in.
You should make a vid talking about the more Exoric Races and what not, im just getting into DND and my first character is gonna be a Goblin, I've been told most DM's dont mind stuff like it so.
Not being able to relate to a Dragonborn? I only watched the brief self-narration of the Dark Urge’s background story in Baldur’s Gate III, and his despair over his own actions, combined with the demonstrated will to do better, was enough to make me empathise with him. Completely different to how he comes off in game, when he’s largely silent (or, conversely, grinning in anticipation of the next act of violence).
“Feel free to make an ugly elf.” In fact, in the Scourge of Worlds movie, a barbarian refers to elf wizard Mialee as “the ugly elf”, which I guess is just because the pre-made character had a charisma score of 8 (-1). But charisma is really more about personality (she’s the loner bookish wizard type, I guess), not about physical appeal - as evident by the fact that elves get a dexterity boost, not a charisma boost (speaking from 3.5 edition rules here, which were in place when Scourge of Worlds was made).
My only clarification here is all the stuff about which specific ability score increases specific races get is completely obsolete and has been for quite a while. All races get a +2 and +1 to whatever ability score the player chooses to allow for more customisation
In czech WotC approved DnD clone they reworked dragonborn ancestry, so there are 10 ancestries and 10 breath weapons. I always tell players, they can choose whichever rules version they want.
im just starting to get interested in dnd and im playing a dragonborn in our campaign and lorewise they are very flexible and i got to admit they look awesome
I think that simply "breaking the racial stereotype" takes away one of the parts that is interesting to explore in roleplay, because without certain racial behaviors, it is just another human with pointy ears and different abilities. Of course, your race should not determine your class/background, but having some behaviors of that race will differentiate you from other races, which is interesting to show the connection with your origins and put emphasis on how your race sees the world. I've had people say to me "you don't have to follow this race stereotype/behavior, play the way you want" but what if i want to follow the race behavior? For example, when I made my Dragonborn character, I took some traits from the race itself and I enjoyed playing that way. It's a good way to start, but there's a greater incentive not to do a roleplay characteristic of a race, distancing the community from experiencing it.
Human ranger rogue monk. His backstory is that he was born into modest wealth as the son of an entrepreneur. When he was a young adult he got lost at sea and spent 5 years stranded on an island where he’d hunt to survive. One day he’d find a passing ship only to discover pirates. After sneaking on board and taking out the pirates he’d sail back home to find his city’s become a cesspool of crime and villainy. His appearance is that of a man wearing a green mask
I’ve never played DnD mainly cuz I don’t have a friends that would play with me to be able to do so but race wise I feel most drawn to Elf, Tiefling, Tabaxi, & somewhat DragonBorne Class wise I’m most drawn to like wizard, sorcerer, paladin, rouge & Druid
I just found your content! I hope you're okay and still able to make videos. I'm just getting started on my journey into DND and I'm finding your videos hilarious and helpful
My first game of dnd was as a Dragonborn sorcerer which was spawned in max level due to the fact that I was put into a campaign that had been going on for a few months(also we never made a character sheet bc we were doing this through a voice chat on Xbox). Now idk the size scaling on what is considered medium or large but I made my character 6’4 but I was teamed up with another Dragonborn who was a monk standing at 8’10. Idk if that’s medium but I doubt it is. Also as a side thing when I was making my character my dm didn’t tell me what colors of the Dragonborn meant or anything about racial abilities(besides breath attacks and resistance to said breath attack elements)so when he told me to choose my color out of these 10 colors I went with black and he said “ok” and didn’t tell me that was an acid Dragonborn until I was in the game and he knew that I knew nothing about the game besides you can do what you want and roll dice. Then he told me that I’m not proficient in any armor but I do have a spell called acid armor so I went through the whole game thinking that if I get hit by anyone then I would die immediately (so pretty much a glass cannon). About 90% through the game I have been getting lucky on my saving throws and at most getting grazed by attacks until my rival character in the game stabs me with one of those blades that is shaped like a drill so I have a hole in my chest rather than a stab and due to my little understanding of the game and me not having any healing spells I thought that my character was going to die. Especially when I cauterized the wound but my dm said I was bleeding internally. So then a few in game hours go by and my dm tells me I’m still alive and I wonder why so I look up Dragonborn online and it says they have natural armor. I ask my dm about it and he says “yeah you have that” and moves on. Then while I wasn’t playing things were happening to my character still. My character ended up losing his wings and grimoire in a final war but still lived. Now we started a continuation to this but my dm did stuff to my character. He turned my full magic focused Dragonborn from a sorcerer into a warrior sorcerer and gave him a longsword which I’m still not proficient in and I still have disadvantage on strength rolls and I don’t have my grimoire so any spells I cast take extra time and never told me about spell slots bc I’d always win or run away or been pitied before they’d run out so then out of the blue he says I’m out of “acid reserves” and I say “well shit. Now I’m dead bc I have no spells left and no wings anymore.” And he just says “you still have your sword” btw I didn’t even use as many spells as I have ever before and he says I’m out of them so he obviously just wants me to roll with the sorcerer warrior thing but I want to stay magic focused. So then to be able to live I’m forced to use the sword and I managed to live. So yeah my dm is kinda shit ig
Oooo gosh it's hard to chose I love the aspect of the gnome where they are happy go lucky but are smart and forest gnomes sounds so cool cause YOU CAN TALK TO ANIMALS LIKE HELLO THAT'S SO COOL but however tieflings sound coooool for customization with the wide variety of skin colors BUT dragonborns sound so cool 🥹 Like you can be a giant walking lizard that breaths fire and intimadates people So uhhh idk what to chose but I can't wait to draw my character and create a backstory once I choose what race....
It's interesting how with most of the races you only chose the defult setting versions of them to mention. Eberron has variations of all the base races as well as the Critical roll setting and they're just as interesting as their FR and Greyhawlk equivalents. (Halflings who ride dinosaurs? What's not to love? Oh and Clan Borimar, the Halfling Mafia.)
It is so funny to read "D&D" without the edition. In this case it is D&D 5, if I remember correctely. I love the new rules, but I still remember the other editions. I was a Game Master through all these editions (And yes, I know AD&D 😂). I really love the new simplicity of the new D&D, but I will never forget the other ones.
i am gonna make an Fire dragon Dragonborn Wizard and a half elf druid. thank you so much for the overview. now i feel prepered for my first charakter and my first rounds
The dragonborn is a bit odd. It feels like they just made a Human with scales, and a once per rest burning hands expy. No darkvision, even though dragons have both darkvision and blindsight. You don't automatically get the Draconic language, and there's no mention of wings or a tail. At least there is a feat to give you a frightening roar.
hey i’m pretty new to DND and i have a question, if this is every single race, why do I see other ones on the 5e wiki lot Fairies, Changelings, Goliaths, etc? are they like not races you can actually play as or something?
And realistically humans should have medium vision in all directions, not the worst dark vision irl but it varies. I do personally, and can see the legs/antennae/jaws/hairs on ants if I get close enough, but most of us should realistically have the highest traits in edible mild poison resistances and physical adaptability.

14:44 I'm pretty sure depending on the interpretation, even the second 1 is rerolled. I believe the wording is "whenever" which wouldn include a reroll.
All i could imagine when he talked about the drow was them wearing sunglasses in the sun to make it easier for them to see
Now i can't get that picture out of my head
great vid! you gonna do the races from other sourcebooks?
I enjoy the structure of this video reminds me of a comprehensive version of Jocats crap guides 😂 keep up the good work I’m new to playing dnd and got “the dubious honor of being dm because it was my idea to play with a group of friends that happened to say they were interested and even after 3 full sessions we have yet to have all 4 main players show up and has caused me to have to come up with some rules that apply in game so that I can continue to introduce them to each other” 👈 insert deep godly voice
Somehow my favourite race blends perfectly with my favourite classes. Tiefling with +2 to charisma helps so much with sorcerers and bards and occasional warlocks
Fun fact -Most dnd races can move only 2 feet per turn due to the fact they only have two feet
(totally didn't romance a rogue or anything though *cough* *cough*)
But honestly I loved Tieflings when I read up about them. I relate to them the most tbh.
I'm going to play D&D for the first time in the near future, and I was for sure going to go with Dragonborn. Seems like they're a bit weaker stats-wise, but they're just so cool.
D&D is more than stats. It is primary a role-playing game. Don't think only about min-maxing
@@koutouloufas7 I just said I'd play Dragonborn despite it being weaker, doesn't that suggest that I think roleplay is more important anyway?
@@Voxdalian yeah, i agree with you. You should not even mention stats, RP is what matters
@@koutouloufas7 That sounds like strange advice. I'd still like to be okay at whatever I'm doing.
@@Voxdalian you will be ok if you enjoy the game.
This is honestly hilarious why are you not making more??
Explaining every race: oh?
... from the player handbook: oh...
YOUR NAME IS ALPHAGNOME! THOUGHT GNOMES WOULD BE YOUR FAVORITE

Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma.
Which one did you forget while saying this?
Oooh yes like no. 10.000. Justified, your vids are humorous AND informative.
PLUS MARIO RPG OST IN THE BG SLAPSSSS.
Damn.... You look so much like this other dude, Idyl!
You should check him out... He is the president of MMORPGs!
I enjoy your videos!
I hope they can do a collab together soon!
"every race in dnd explained"
my metallic/wooden ass:
Would love to see another video coming other classes, like I understand what lich is, but is that it’s own class or a subclass?
Also what stats do😮
Imagine a character who was the height of an elf but was actually 3-4 dwarfs all stacked up in a trench coat
I’ve never played DnD mainly cuz I don’t have a friends that would play with me to be able to do so but race wise I feel most drawn to
Elf, Tiefling, Tabaxi, & somewhat DragonBorne
Class wise I’m most drawn to like wizard, sorcerer, paladin, rouge & Druid
I’m playing a Dragonborn Warlock in BG3 rn and loving it so much
I just found your content!
Oooo gosh it's hard to chose I love the aspect of the gnome where they are happy go lucky but are smart and forest gnomes sounds so cool cause YOU CAN TALK TO ANIMALS LIKE HELLO THAT'S SO COOL but however tieflings sound coooool for customization with the wide variety of skin colors BUT dragonborns sound so cool 🥹
Like you can be a giant walking lizard that breaths fire and intimadates people
So uhhh idk what to chose but I can't wait to draw my character and create a backstory once I choose what race....
6:10 I…. I thought I just wasn’t aware of an Elf remake with Butler instead of Ferrell coming out at some point
Why build me up just to knock me down?
It is so funny to read "D&D" without the edition. In this case it is D&D 5, if I remember correctely. I love the new rules, but I still remember the other editions. I was a Game Master through all these editions (And yes, I know AD&D 😂). I really love the new simplicity of the new D&D, but I will never forget the other ones.
i am gonna make an Fire dragon Dragonborn Wizard and a half elf druid.
thank you so much for the overview. now i feel prepered for my first charakter and my first rounds
You deserve so much more subscribers
What about the terrasque? Surely the do will let me play as that!
I have a tiefling character with sad backstory and I am looking forward to play with him 🥳
3:40 ... How did you exactly pin my 1st character idea there?
Me watching this holding the Character sheet paper in my hand
when are you coming back? i desperately need more of your dnd content my good sir
Will you be going over the differences with the new players handbook?
The dragonborn is a bit odd. It feels like they just made a Human with scales, and a once per rest burning hands expy. No darkvision, even though dragons have both darkvision and blindsight. You don't automatically get the Draconic language, and there's no mention of wings or a tail. At least there is a feat to give you a frightening roar.

I’ve been waiting on you to drop some heat 🔥
hey i’m pretty new to DND and i have a question, if this is every single race, why do I see other ones on the 5e wiki lot Fairies, Changelings, Goliaths, etc? are they like not races you can actually play as or something?
And realistically humans should have medium vision in all directions, not the worst dark vision irl but it varies. I do personally, and can see the legs/antennae/jaws/hairs on ants if I get close enough, but most of us should realistically have the highest traits in edible mild poison resistances and physical adaptability.
