I like the foam gasketing membrane you put behind the fasteners.
I would have staggered the siding so you're fastening it to the middle of the OSB, instead of at the OSB seams all the time. But this looks really nice.
I get staggering it so it doesn't land on a seam, We were just trying to make sure we screwed into a stud, and were not too worried about where the sheet landed. Although fluid applied water barrier probably provides a better seal around the screw then the tape does.
Envy all the beautiful trees around your house :) We will have to plant some on our plot.
We lucked out with having trees and open space. But we are planting a bunch of fruit trees and probably some maples!
I love the way the siding came out. The 2 of you "friends" did a great job..
Thanks! We're pretty happy with it!
Great video. Love the drone footage.
Thanks!
Other than being used to a ventilated soffit, nice video! Good pace, detail, video, and audio!
The un-ventilated attic really gets people, but it worked for us. Thanks for watching!
Getting close now. So exciting.
Yeah we are super excited!
Good video sir watching from phillipine
Thanks for watching!
Nice work well done and thank you for the video.
Thank you for watching!
Congratulations, well done.
Thanks!

Awesome build man! I just finished watching every video you uploaded for this build. I really enjoyed all of these uploads. I am currently in the market for my first house and I am leaning towards building it myself, and these videos really inspired me. Great job on the insulation as well, this is a huge area I want to focus on in my house as it will cut down energy costs immensely. Looking forward to more of your uploads. I also enjoyed the chickens, it is something I want to experience myself.
Glad you have enjoyed our channel. If we didn't build the house we would have never been able to afford anything especially in this market and the area we live in. We have more videos coming up I'm just trying to get a few in line so I can rise them over the spring and summer.
@@PootsPastures Is there anything you would have done differently?
I was also curious why your crawlspace wasn't level, it appears to have a hump in one portion. Could it have used some compaction within the crawlspace?
There's no big thing I would change, I did have a list going of things we would do differently but I can't remember any of them right now lol. But we just didn't excavate the center to the same depth of the footings, mainly because of equipment limitations and time constraints. It doesn't cause any issues with anything it just doesn't look normal.
Thanks you so much for sharing! So helpfull. I will definately come back to your channel and trying for myself!
Glad you enjoyed the video! We've got some more videos we're working on so stay tuned!
Look good,!
Thanks!
Excited to see more videos come out! My wife and I have been watching since before your ICF pour. Your videos are always great tools to show friends and family the general process when they come to lend a hand on our project. We just dried in our build, which is similar in a lot of ways to yours! Feel free to watch my latest video if you want. The drone tour at the end of this video was a really great way to show off your siding, great work.
I am thinking of venting some DWV out the side of the house on my build as well. Do you have any good reference material for that? I have the same metal roof panels and I would just prefer to not have any big roof penetrations. What made you choose to vent out the side?
Sorry it has taken me a while to get a chance to sit down and answer your question. I don't have specifics, but they do make purpose built terminations that have mesh and look nicer than just a pipe sticking out of a wall. I would also check the code book because there will be minimum distances you will need to be from any other openings (windows/doors etc.). Oh and make sure the pipe is sloped so condensation drains properly. It deffinately makes sense to limit the amount of penetrations on the roof. The one big reason we didn't do that is just because there are some houses around us that have wall terminations, and I don't like how they did it. The pipes stick way far out of the wall so theres like a 1.5' pipe sticking out of the wall with a weird looking mesh screen cap on it, and it turned me off to it. Granted there are definitely better ways to do it.
Also thanks for being a long time supporter, and good luck with your build! If you have any other questions let me know!
Looks fantastic, bro. I've been wondering how things are going
Thanks!
Great info. Thanks. Are you opening to hire it drywall or diy?
Thanks for watching! And if you check out some of our other videos we have finished most of the inside!
@@PootsPastures thanks. Will do
Got it Yet ?
Moving in ?
Give us the great news 🙏
Our next video will be up next weekend so stay tuned!
What color paint is your siding? Like cracked pepper black? Also what stain is that? We were planning on doing a cedar but this is a great idea!!
The siding color is Charcoal, and the roof and trim are black. We also used a "chestnut" stain for the soffit. I've found that when you stain any type of ply wood material it always comes out way more orange than intended, so the color shown on the actual can was way more brown then we ended up with. But next to the siding it looks fine.
@@PootsPastures did your siding come pre-painted or did you paint it? We are doing a VERY similar home! So I was happy to find you! But were concerned with paint peeling. We want to do a flat but it seems eggshell is whats recommended on metal siding/roof
So most metal siding/roofing companies have colors that you can choose from. They also sometimes offer an "unfinished" product, I would suggest choosing one of the colors offered because they have warranties that cover things like gaging and rusting, etc. If you paint it yourself you would probably not be covered. Most places can also provide you with samples of the colors so you can see what they actually look like.
You may also be able to find a company that you could have do a custom color but my guess is that drives the cost way up.
Long story short if you get it finished from the factory you shouldn't be worried about paint pealing or chipping. Just be careful when handling it because it will scratch.
@@PootsPastures yeah prices are insane. We purchased it already and will paint it ourselves now. Just wasn't sure the route you went. Thank you!
Did you intentionally not paint the underside of the C channel flashing around the windows? You can see the white around the windows when standing at an angle.
the metal comes pre painted, and the inside is white. Being able to see the white when you stand at extreme angles is not a big deal to me.
@@PootsPastures ahhh I see. Doesn't look terrible. Just something I noticed and was curious. Just found your channel and love it! Building my own Tiny house and about to buy land and start a metal building project!
Yeah not an issue. You could definitely paint it if you wanted. We painted the bottom of the drip edge over the door because that was super obvious. Good luck with your build!
@@PootsPastures Thank you!
Looks great. What's a ruff cost to date for your build?
Not including land we are at roughly 50k
@@PootsPastures Impressive. I love what you have done.
@@PootsPastures what area are you guys in? How big is your plot? Just curious are you self employed? How do you have the time to do the entire build?
I’m hoping to do a shed roof second story addition here in Portland, same idea with the metal siding and metal roof - should bring the home up to modern
We are in northern Arizona near Flagstaff on 5 acres. We are not self employed. I follow a ton of channels where people quit their job to go build their own home and it isn't realistic for the majority of people. That's one of the reasons we documented our journey. I work full time, I am luck to be in a job where I get 3 days off a week, and during our build Chelsea worked part time and went to school full time. Honestly we spent almost every weekend for about 1.5 years working in the house.
It deffinately wasn't the easiest but it was worth it.
Also sounds like you have a big project ahead of you! Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any other questions.
Just realized I didn't have a zero in my response to you. 5k would be awesome! But alas we've spent about 50.
You didn't great job
I'm going to assume that is meant to say "you did a great job"... so thank you!!
Yes, that's what they meant, lol
You both doing awesome work and life TOGETHER ❤
