    Good information. One would naturally expect better FPS with updating your drivers but your summary shows about it's more like 50/50, depending upon the game. And release date plays a small role. Good to know!

      Hi Greg! Good to hear from you my friend. Yes, I was rather surprised by the results, especially with the more recently launched games...

    Well, driver 528.49 allows me to bypass dynamic boost 2.0 and force the 3070ti to run at the full 150w, instead of hovering around 125 to 130w like it does most of the time due to the CPU using some of that power.
    But alas, nvidia patched it out. So thats actually one case where the bug was beneficial. You might argue, that its dangerous to increase a laptop's TDP and all, but remember, these things were designed to handle the full dynamic boost load. If your laptops temps are within control, why not let us bypass dynamic boost? It doesn't do anything other than being useless.

      @OWNORDISOWN  Год назад +1

      True. They shouldn't give us features in one hand and them take them away from the other. I'm all for new features and hope they incorporate more. Thanks for pointing that out Eric!

    • @siyzerix
      @siyzerix Год назад +1

      @@OWNORDISOWN Well it wasn't a feature per se, but a sort of glitch.
      However, it did allow us to bypass dynamic boost by disabling it and it unlocked the power frequency curve in msi afterburner.
      If a laptop is advertised with 150w, then I should be able to use 150w. Not this bogus 125w + 25w. Screw that. What, have the components not been desifned to handle it?

      @@slay3rgamingyt Get driver 528.49, get msi afterburner, go to device manager and disable ''nvidia platform framework'', you should be able to crank the power slider in msi afterburner to 130% and voila! your GPU will use its max TDP at all times irrespective of how much the cpu uses

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  Год назад +1

      @siyzerix totally! Who cares if the CPU is at 65w vs 90w when gaming. I would rather have those 25w on the GPU, especially now QHD is mainstream.

    This sounds more like Nvidia no longer fully supporting the Pascal 10xx series of GPUs, doing just enough to "keep the lights on" for that generation of gpu. It would be interesting to compare performance improvements/regressions on 30xx laptops over the same time period and and 40xx series since launch to date to see if the different architectechures are effected the same way.
    It might also be prudent to point out that not all driver updates provide performance improvements, some are just bug fixes and others only add day one support for a new game while others add support for a totally new feature.
    It is easy to point at Intel Arc GPU drivers providing incremental performance improvements over time. Not many Intel GPU laptops around though.
    I know AMD drivers at one point in time provided a performance boost to the vega based igpu. 3dmark Nightraid scores went from 16xxx to 17xxx with one of the updates.

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  Год назад +2

      Yes, I think AMD drivers may see more benefit. I did actually mention that drivers help bug fixes....
      I agree, it would be interesting to see if my 4080 would benefit. I'll have to try that again in a year or two 😀

    When I get a new GPU, lets say 4070, I generally update the drivers until the next generation comes out (5070 etc), then I stop updating as I assume the new drivers are tailored towards the new generation and my previous generation is now an afterthought.

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  Год назад

      Probably a good idea. It certainly must be difficult for Nvidia to make the drivers work equally well throughout their product stack.

    Good to know that newest drivers are not always needed to update and I'm not really surprised that new drivers gonna "reduce" FPS just to bring new features that may or may not work on GTX 1080.... This video explains well how new driver reflect FPS behavior....

      @becaliteodora3285 I'm doing great thanks! Let's see, my mom died two years ago so I decided not to spend all weekends working on videos (I work full time during the week selling metal). I want to spend more time with the family. My channel then got hacked for a week and ever since it's been in decline.
      I bought a vacation home with my inheritance so I try and go there as often as I can. I'm now 55 and woukd love to retire but I can't afford it, I might keep the channel going as it would give me something to do in 10 years. If it continues to decline I may just start another one as it only brings in $109 a month ad revenue anyway. How are you doing? I'm glad you stopped by. I'm still posting a video every two weeks or so. A friend of mine, Chris, has helped with a few videos . One will go live tomorrow actually .

      I'll like to stick to your channel more nowdays... I've been also away...then lost my account then recover it etc.
      Hope u don't delete your channel or if You switch to another channel, let me know, or better let us, the viewers, know 🥂

      @becaliteodora3285 thanks Becali. Sorry to hear your account got hacked too! Appreciate it, always a pleasure to hear from you. I'm think I will start a second channel and focus on budget gaming stuff. Keep this one going and have this for the more high end and for those that like to tinker with their systems. Yes, I don't have much time now for watching much media myself. I think after covid many people were so happy to get out of the lock down the last thing they want is to be tied to a computer screen...
