  • I am renovating this kitchen at a flip property I recently transacted. Today, I am installing lightrail moulding to the kitchen wall cabinets. Lightrail moulding is the trim moulding (some people say molding) that goes at the base of the kitchen wall cabinets. The nice thing about lightrail moulding is that they are super easy to install (once you figure out how to measure the lightrail moulding, which I show you in this video) and they make a huge impact on how your cabinet will look. To take it to the next level, match your lightrail moulding with crown moulding on those same cabinets and you will have a custom look at a fraction of the cost.
    Lightrail mouldings are somewhat difficult to find at your local big box retailer since not many people come in asking for them, but you can easily find them at a local wholesaler or lumber supplier. Simply search for a lumber supplier in your area and call them for availability.
    In this video I go over every detail you need to know on how to cut, and install lightrail moulding with close up shots of my work.
    For under $30 in supplies, you can upgrade your cabinets and add significant value to your kitchen.
    I hope you find this video helpful, please consider liking the video, sharing and subscribing to my channel. I appreciate your support.

    Your expert cuts look great, would have been nice to see how you mounted the molding to the underside of the cabinets.

    You can also use a peice of scribe molding to fill in instead of notching the face frame. Great job

      Absolutely. It’s a little more work if you ask me as you’ll need to rip 1/4” strips, and attach them to the cabinet box and you might have to finish them too. Thanks for watching and supporting ✊🏼

      @@TrueGritDevelopment oh I'm talking about the molding used to against the wall, it comes 1/4 and finished. But you normally only get that molding with kitchens from design shops. If I dont have any I definitely do the notch method. Great video and install !

    Can you put the same trim at the top or does it need to be different than the bottom? Thanks

    • @TrueGritDevelopment
      @TrueGritDevelopment  3 года назад

      Lightrail trim is specific to the bottom of the cabinet. The top is usually a crown moulding trim. Trim is of course subjective, so you can do whatever you want really, but you should always consider resale of the home. A good rule of thumb is to consider standard finishes that will appease to the average home owner. thanks for watching and supporting ✊🏼

    Why did you install returns above potential sink area but no returns on the cabinets above the range? Just curious.

      Hi, I pick these up from local lumber suppliers. You can also get them online, but you’ll probably pay more. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching 👊🏼

      Got it. Thought you’d be local to my area I would have recommended a cpl places. Check your local lumber yards, they will have it.

    Complete hack job if you tiled over that wall without fixing it. I bet you did. I would never let you work on any of my job sites if you did.

      Confused by your comment, the video is about lightrail moulding not the backsplash. Nevertheless, I wouldn’t hire me either, if that wall was not prepped prior to tiling. Not sure why you assumed the worse. My main objective from my videos is to share my knowledge and learn from others. If you feel there is something we can all learn from, please comment about it.
