- The 10 best cannabis strains of all time… according to you!
So, we asked you guys what your favourite strain of cannabis was and out over a thousand votes, you gave us a selection of roughly 113 different strains of cannabis that were a firm favourite.
So, what did you come up with as your favourites and what did you have to say about them?
Well, at number ten we can’t remember which one you chose, so we’ll quickly move on to number nine.
And yes, you guessed it, cheese.
No, not the stuff that comes from milk, but the stuff that comes from a cannabis plant.
Mind you, Mike Owen may be hedging his bets on what he was referring to when he commented “cheese for the taste”, and was Robert Sarbu referring to Stilton when he said: “Blue cheese”?
However, we’re all off to fill our faces as Krie suggested that “a couple of puffs of blue cheese right before a big ribeye steak is hard to beat”!
At number eight we have OG Kush, and a popular habit of cannabis users is to reminisce, as witnessed by G Shell who still yearns for some ‘02 or ‘03 OG Kush.
Sorry, still can’t remember what was number 10, but at number seven we have Gelato, a favourite with Italians…
It seems it’s a bit of a favourite in Scotland too according to Greghtid who described the effects as: “gives a good buzz and stone”. What more could you want.
We have some advice for Dave Miller and that is not to panic. With over 800 varieties of cannabis, you’ll never be asked to pick just one, but good to know that in such a crisis Gelato is your ‘go-to’ weed of choice.
At number six we have Acapulco Gold which, as cannabis names go, is relatively tame, even if the cannabis isn’t.
This also seems to be the stuff of legend and the after-effects include, unsurprisingly reminiscing.
Both Patricia Persinger (great name by the way!), Carol Redemacher and Mike Henderson all seem to have enjoyed this ‘back in the day’ in the 1970s.
At number five we have Girl Scout Cookies and we’d love to know the thought process or inspiration behind the name as although any cookies we’ve had baked by girl scouts were very nice, we prefer hash brownies.
At number four we have Sour Diesel and we loved ‘solodolo’s’ comment: “Smoked a blunt to the head of some different looking Sour Diesel in Lawrence Kansas one day and I've never been that high since.”
Still can’t remember what was at number ten on the list, sorry.
At number three we’ve got Red Bud Columbian, which seems to be a favourite of Mark Galetti who has been partial to it since 1975 - more reminiscing perhaps?
Clearly most of you are also animal lovers as you will see from the top-two choices.
At number two we have Gorilla Glue.
Now for any carpenters out there, there is a connection between the cannabis Gorilla Glue and the wood glue, Gorilla glue, and it is not that both can get you high.
Gorilla Glue gets its name from the fact that once you are stoned, you can’t shift out of your seat! However, GG4 seems to have found that it had the opposite effect on him as it took him to the moon which, as we all know, is made of cheese, isn’t it GG4?
And so to number one on the list. Have you guessed it with the clue we gave earlier? Think animal.
Think black and white.
Think about terpenes.
Yup, you got it, the animal that is black and white and smells is a skunk, and Skunk was the leader, just, in our list of your top-ten most popular strains of cannabis.
Who would dare argue with Scott Thain’s comment, which was also our favourite of those left? “1980's SKUNK smelled like burnt rubber and tasted kinda like the Exxon Valdez spill and your best friend was the couch,” and if more proof were needed that stoners love reminiscing, Bob Dirt provided it:
“Early 80s circa Skunk. Super high terpene levels, open the bag and the whole building could smell it. It was grown indoors around the US Pacific Northwest.”
It is worth mentioning that many other strains of cannabis received multiple ‘honourable mentions’, and these include Northern Lights, Panama Red, purple punch, Thai Stick, Green Crack and Maui Wowie, blue dream, lemon haze, pink runtz, biscotti, jack Herer, stardog, white widow, gushers, hulkberry and bruce banner, and so, so many more.
Oh, and we just remembered what was number ten on the list.... Amnesia!

My personal all-time favorite is GSC (Girl Scout Cookies). It's one of the best strains ever created. It's a cross between Durban Poison and OG Kush, both of which are two of my most favorite strains.
When combined together to get the GSC strain, it'll lift you up straight to heaven and make you feel calm and relaxed. But you're also awake and alert the whole time, so you get to really enjoy the experience.
And then... The Munches makes food taste 10x better. 🍽
Never tried GSC, sounds interesting though, especially with the Durban Poison mix🤔

Skunk was usually the only strain I remember being available until the 90s opened things up. Skunk, Northern Lights, White widow, and White Rhino are my favorites to smoke and grow.
I smoked so much skunk in the 90s I don't like it now. Lol

One of the most agreeable list I've seen. Only strain I felt was missing that deserved a spot on here, even if it meant making this review "The top 11 Strains" was Grand Daddy Purple.

GDP doesn't produce a lot of weight. Most growers don't grow it because of that.
1. Ice Cream Cake (Gelato x Wedding Cake) --> Had a wonderfull holiday where I tried this one and I fell in love with it!
2.Blackberry OG --> A real strong indica, like you're smoking sleeping pills with strong berry taste
3. Gushers (Gelato 41 x Triangle Kush) --> Simular to ICC, but it hits harder, more like you're smoking Psychopharmaka xD
4. Amnesia Haze--> Was my former favorite until I came across GTH and ICC
5. Ghost Train Haze (Ghost OG x Nevilles Wreck) --> Buds tend to look more like an Indica, but it's a real nice and strong sativa buzz
6. Jesus --> I only had this strain once in my life, but it was a legendary one
7. Lemon Cherry Gelato --> A very fine smoke, but a real strong one
8. Gelato 41 --> Two bowls and I'd sleep no matter what xD
9. Blue Widow ( Blueberry x White Widow) --> I like Weed with berry taste xD
10. Jack Herrer --> My favorite hybrid strain

My top strains so far is Blue Dream, Jack Herrer and Ghost Train Haze.
I smoked a pre-roll of jack herer for the first time wrapped in kief and suffice to say.. actually I didn't say anything; was so gone lol stuff is not for lightweights

Love all of those on your top 10. Personally my #1 favorite is Cherry Cookies. Only because out of all the different strains I've grown. Cherry Cookies has a great terpene profile, super sticky, dense buds and never a bug issue. I have been keeping Cherry Cookies strain alive since 2018! It has such a sweet smell and super frosty buds.

My #1 Strain is Panama Red from the 70's, my #2 is Acapulco Gold. #3 Jamaican Lamb's Bread, #4 Purps, #5 is Sour D., #6 is Pure Power Plant (best sativa to grow), #7 is MK-Ultra, #8 G-13 Haze, #9 is Malawi Gold and my 10th pick is Durban. I was raised on Sativas, with their heavy mental lifting effects.
Watch the documentary about Acapulco Gold from 1973 it was the same hemp our founding fathers were growing

Grew some apple cup this summer (apple fritter x banana butter cup) from square 1 genetics, robinhood seeds. the flavor is green apples the frost factor is amazing, some of the best ive grown. decided to cross it with a purple kush from my own stock. i cant wait to see what phenos i come across.Happy rolling People!

I'm glad white widow was mentioned....the highest I've ever been was off a small joint of white widow....only had it once and been looking forward to the next experience.....another very close second to thay was bubble gum.....also only had it once but I cannot forget that high!!
Gorilla Glue is my current favorite...but in the 1970's I remember buying a lid for $10...and then one day the price was $25 for an ounce of either Acapulco Gold, Panama Red, or Colombian Redbud. Of those three my favorite was the Redbud...and a bag of chocolate chip cookies with some milk, a pizza and root beer, and some chips and bean dip...and yes, in that order.
In the 60's you got a 4 finger lid for $10.

I started smoking in 1969. Early on a lot of Mexican varieties. All fairly decent for the time. Then the Columbian started coming around. Red Bud was the most common here & always a great buzz. Use to pay $30 for a 5 finger bag. It never let you down. After that there were many types that came around throughout, that were all primo. Panama Red (heavy buzz), Sweet Jamaican (never smiled & laughed so hard in my life), Thai Stick (ultimate put your ass in the chair) & many others. The one I unfortunately missed out on some how that was suppose to be the best ever around here was Black Vietnamese. And of course we got lots of great hash for $3-5 a gram as well as opium. Those were the daze. Now days it's just not the same to me. Maybe I'm just burnt out though. I use to eat acid like candy. I still don't remember hardly anything at all from 1973-74. I use to try & keep track of every time I tripped in a note book, but after 300 trips I lost count. Bottom Line ~ I just think there's something special about the strains that Mother Earth provided us with that made them sacred in a way. Once you take them into a lab & start messing with them, they just aren't the same. I'm not saying that there hasn't been some amazing research & positive developments made for medical conditions, but in general... Why Fool with Mother Earth's gift to mankind? "It's a plant that turns into a flower in your mind."
In 71 a guy from college opened his trunk and there was 20 lbs of Jamaican gold! A quarter pound cost us 60$.. I’ve never had any medical that killer!! I was better than blotter acid as for the all day blown away buzz😜🤪😘

Not sure if this is a commonly known strain or not, but tropicana kush is my favourite strain of all time. The potency was pretty damn good, but not the craziest. Though with how smooth it was and how amazing it tasted, even if it didn't get me stoned I'd still smoke it if not just for the flavour and arrouma alone.

I remember all those old school pot strains with Thai Stick my fav follwed by Acapulco Gold and Panama Red in 2nd & 3rd...My first excursion into home grown sinsi was some grown by a neighbor who was a Viet Nam vet and was originally from Northern California...really piney smell and day-glo green in color, w/bright orange/red hairs. Very frosty..That was Circa '71 btw.👌👍✌ Peace!

Started around 72 with Mexican, the came the Colombian gold, Acapulco gold, Panama Red, Purple sins, Manuskathunderfuck, Vietnamese Red the best buzz ever. Quit smoking in 91 and started again about 3 months ago. It helps with my sleep and shoulder pain. Now MN is about to become the 23rd state to legalize marijuana, yes!.....I will say when I started smoking again and the first hit it was strong. Most of what I smoke is at 25% THC and medical.

Here in Quebec, in the 70s and 80s, cannabis was less popular than hashish. The most common type of hash we had at that time was the "Golden Eagle" from Afghanistan and the "Red Lebanon" from Lebanon. It was a beautiful time! Us Canadians, we love Hashish!
I had a friend who used to drive to Florida to pick up Santa Marta Colombian Red Bud back in the 70’s…I still never felt any cannabis that compares to the flavor and quality of that Colombian, and I have lived in Colorado for the last 40 years and smoked every day of that time lololol 😂

Seems like many of us agree on old school.columbian red bud. My question is where is it and why aren't we getting any all these new hybrids can't compare. I guess if we could still get it nothing else would sell🤷
Haven't tried most of these strains but, my favorite 2 in this order is OG Kush and Gorilla Glue, I get the best high from them, and the flavor can't be beaten. I want to try skunk very interesting 🤔
Right now I am growing "Bruce Banner/Gorilla Glue" here in Thailand, tested at 25.3% in a lab... the only one growing it! started growing back in 1978.
Massachusetts Super Skunk from the mid 1980s is supposed to be one of the parents of Sour Diesel. Evidently it was originally a Sensi Seeds Super Skunk from Amsterdam. I had it sometime in the late 80s, two friends and I drove out to a large cabin deep in the woods of Western Massachusetts. The guy who owned the house grew somewhere, I never saw the grow operation. He had half cured bud we smoked, and it stank so much it would make a sailor puke.

Totally forgot, early 90's ran into a Durban hybrid called Holy Ghost.. We were told to be careful and we didn't listen. Had never been that stuck, and haven't since.. All you could do was lay back and let your mind go.. Whole other plane of existence..
showed up in ajo with a harvest of various sativas, a good original haze, lieu hanh99, durban. folks got to smoke it for a wile, then i had to take off in a hurry and sell my weed for super cheap.
i could not give that durban away. half a pound in the trash. apparently someone had a bad experience. lovely stuf.
Cereal milk cause the taste is so lovely and makes me think of my favorite cereal as well as my old post workout drink and you get a nice balanced but incredibly potent high!
Ak-47, Trainwreck, white widow, blue dream, green crack, northern lights, Zkittles, strawberry cough, fire OG, and 91 OG are all really great!

Idk my favorites are from nostalgia from when I first started smoking but I like Bubba kush, white widow, sour d, trainwreck, ak 47, and super silver haze
While all these strains are top notch, for me there will always be Maui Wowie, 1974, as the best ever. There was also a strain sold during the Vietnam era known as Buddha. It was on another level.
No lie i have had Acapulco gold once in my life, im 40 so people much older than me swear it does not exist anymore i experienced it over ten years ago, and i will never forget

WIFI OG or also known as white fire OG, Old school skunk, granddaddy purple, and gelato are my favorites!
I remember Acapulco Gold back in the 70s and part of 80s it was fire.
Seemed back then, they were calling everything Red Bud, Gold Bud and Acapulco Gold when was just a no named "commercial." But when you actually got the real deal, you knew it. They couldn't lie about Skunk tho, as you need only smell it to know for sure lol
Platinum Kush or Bubba Kush, amazing taste, stone, and the relief from depression anxiety insomnia and constant pain come on after the first hit and just bloom into the most perfect high ever. Very medicinal but also an amazing recreational smoke. Havent had any in a while but did recently cross an amazing Grape Pie mother with a Platinum Kush male and WOW, best of both worlds all of the relief of the Platinum Kush with enough of the Grape Pie trates to keep you lucid and awake. Truly any of the more landrace kush strains like Afghan, Hindu, master, bubba, platinum etc.
I think Nebula has to be my favorite strain I've ever had. Some other real star-worthy strains I've had however have been: Sour D, Mk Ultra, Durban Poison, Death Star, NYC Diesel, Blue Cheese, Early and Silver Pearl, Sensi Star, Bubble gum, Purple Urkle, Ninja Fruit, Hella Jelly/Jolly rancher, Green Crack, Blue Dream, White Candy and GG4, just to name a few, but am sure that I've missed many more, which're completely deserving top mentions... LmMFaO!
Neb was nice but didnt hold a patch on og exodus cheese
Texada Timewarp was the best buds i've smoked. It wasn't super strong, but it tasted smooth. The flowers were very vibrant and the stone was quite relaxing. I was only able to enjoy it while I was in BC in the early '00s and haven't seen it since.
Definitely Maui Wowie, Thai sticks, and you missed Kona Gold. Many of the names seem rather new. Hard to keep up with them all. Awesome varieties, so cool. 😎🧡🙏

I can't come up with a fav. I grow as many strains as possible. I get bored easily of the same stuff. Everytime I order seeds I get at least 10 new strains. I just like good weed. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

I recently came across two strains, and I have never in my life seen another strain that is so dense and so frosty and has the dankest smell to it, black ice and jelly pancakes, I'm about to grow two plants of jelly pancakes from seed that I found in the bud from a dispensary, and I want to buy black ice seeds after that, then try to breed them both. Both are potent in smell and THC. I'm a heavy smoker, and one blunt of either strain is all I need for a few hours.
Yogi Diesel, Boy Scout Cookies, Girl Scout cookies, and Iced Grapefruit are my favorites. It's unfortunate how some strains come and go due to popularity. What's pretty cool to me at least is the creation of new cannabis strains. Miss the old but love the new.
Also, don't forget Chocolope. YUM!
Super Silver Haze deserves an honorable mention. Great for edibles, tinctures, and smokes easy. Makes me happy, relaxed, and giggley.
Isn’t that a pure sativa? I think pure sativas are in a league of their own.

Blueberry , grape ape , biscotti , Skywalker og are some of my favs . I live in Missouri and we have flora farms medical nugs , if you ever get a chance try lavender Jones , pineapple kush or my favorite purple papaya I've been mixing it with some gg4 it's a great anxiety and pain reliever
The Skunk I CAN remember didn't need you to open the bag to cast its odor throughout the building. The principal didn't have any problem locating it
The first strains I ever had were Strawberry Cough and Granddaddy Purp and let me tell you if you are a fan of the dominant "indacouch" relaxing vibe itll put you in the best of moods. Not too high on the thc % so it won't knock you out like some trainwreck strain giving you some out of body paranoia. Another one to mention was Bubba Kush and it is weak compared to others but it was one I had in an edible and turned out to be mellow af.
Granddaddy purp is legendary for patients with anxiety, stress and pain. If you like Granddaddy purp you’ll like Northern Lights #5, it’s a heavy indica with anti anxiety effects
White widow had me pissing myself and my eyelids would roll outwards from laughing so hard. When it was time for a short munchie trip, was driving on the wrong side of the road thinking I was in a turn lane. Oh yeah and the sky was talking lol. The chances of ever getting it again are astronomical, most original strains have been lost. My 2nd fave was lemon skunk, bright citrus taste and the most beautiful big dense buds left on 6" stems (couldn't tell there was a stem). They had so many trichomes they looked like they were rolled in powdered sugar.
I got some widow once it tore me up , an eighth of it lasted like a week and a half
yeah the problem with WW is it's so sneaky. You smoke a bowl sitting on the couch eating popcorn with hot sauce and it's not working so you smoke a couple more, then you get and realize that you can't feel your legs and time stopped 😂

Grape ape , Panama red ,northern lights,skunk, and forbidden fruit are by far my favorite.
Original runts best stain !!! So strong I got ,24 % outside!! finishes early outdoors in northern states!! Very pretty as well nice colors!!!👍
My favorite strain hands down is Sour Diesel. My favorite dispensary doesn't carry it very often but when they do I try to stock up.
Redbud was quite nice back in the 70's. Used to enjoy it a lot!
Absolutely it was the best tasting and only a pin joint would make you high step grinning like a dog with 2 peckers. Lol
Purple Cream... 70's era plant with amazing smoothness and a helluva punch.
There's a strain that I would love to find again. It came from the Napa Valley so we just called it The Napa. Its primary feature was its color which was very blond. It was hard to call it green at all. And it was also Very potent. It was the only weed that ever made me green out. It also was Very hashy, just loaded with keef. Just the bag from a quarter pound would yield a gram of keef. We got it in th late eighties and I think early nineties and paid $1600 a QP from the grower and it was well worth it. My brother and I have been trying to find ithe strain and have come up empty. It could be Acapulco Gold or Durban Poison, we haven't found those yet.
Thin Mint cookies is my favorite. Beautiful flavor and always gets the job done. Gorilla Glue 4 is a good pick for #1. I’m disregarding skunk because I’m pretty sure the people who voted that just call everything Skunk.
Lava Cake #11 is my go to herb at my local dispensary. Smooth and strong always does the job. As a matter of fact I'm baked right now!

I got some strain from Oregon in 2002 that the trichomes had a blue or purple hue. The other strain had like an orange hue. Any clue on these strains? I know it came from hippies.

@@endodouble6691 it had a fruity taste to me. A friend got me a half ounce of shake from a distributor. And I can't afford the store bought weed. My friend that grew some for personal use handed me about 6 ounces of the bud's he said was his cull weed. It was good. Then he gave me a fruit jar of the best he had. Real potent. And it was free.. He said get him some seeds and he would help me out as long as it was for me.. I wish the government would stay out of what's good and natural for the people..

Last time I was in Barcelona I joined a cannabis club and got some sour diesel. They also had Jack Herer, but I chose the diesel. Loved every toke. I would walk around town with a coke can crafted into a pipe and take hits when nobody was around. Great highs for the duration of my trip!!

Girlscout cookies is likeliest named as such due to a bold young girlscout who, not long after the beginning of the medical cannabis dispensories coming into the world in California in 1996 with prop 215, she circa y2k, set up cookie shop outside of one of the dispensaries and set the world record for most sales of cookies! She had sold so many that i read this in an article in, I think, Time Magazine. It was a cookie sellout reaching several thousand dollars in only a few hours. It was rather darling. My favorite, however is "forbidden fruit".

Mile 62 puts out some great herb. I live in Massachusetts and my local dispensary carries their products. Also if you like pre rolls David "Big Papi" Ortiz company puts out nice and strong. It's a grand slam!
Cinderella 99 is such an underrated and overlooked strain
Im surprised Haze didn't make the cut even though its lineage can be found in many popular strains today. It might take a long time to finish indoors but worth the wait in my opinion

aamof i remember in 2011 the last packs of authentic seedsman original haze were still $11 (for 10 seeds)
and nobody bought them, everyone was crazy for RP or whatever then. people are dumb. they sat there and rotted for around a year while people paid over $100 for packs of tom hill haze et c.
the best i smoked had parallel leaves, like ticker tape. passed them to a grower on icmag.
take a look at all those sativa and haze pictures, and maybe once or twice a year you'll see parallel leaves.
@atomictraveller it doesn't have to be a commercial grow to make the list of best strains the old guys I knew who grew Haze would barely sell any of it. Im pretty sure the clones I got from a friend were Nevilles Haze and I grew them outdoors big plants with decent size harvest. Cinderella 99 used to be a real good strain as well but the version they are selling now is nowhere close to the Cindy we had in early 2000's.

They're lemon haze from Silver Leaf, bought from LSC.
I wish i knew what kind of weed was a little seedling i found was. It was next to a trailer that some sailors had lived in. I dug it up and tended it. It was a male plant. It started producing pollen and i went ahead and harvested. Careful not to lose any pollen. It was small and the harvest yielded 6 joints. I decided to smoke one. I was watching TV. I suddenly realized i was watching something that looked like transmissions from outer space. Then i realized i needed to run to the bathroom. But i couldnt even move. Not at all. I told myself if i could move just one finger i could get up. I did. I woke up the next morning with no idea how i got to bed. My roommate stole the other joints. Damn.
Skunk #1 was basically just the first mass consumption of an actual Indica leaning strain, which at the time almost everything was a sativa or a hermy and they were basically hemp at 5%THC to 8%THC, indica gives a way different high and a whole new feeling which is what they were going crazy about, it was Medical Grade because 11%THC is med grade in 🇨🇦 , but were smoking 20%-35% now average

I recommend "Parmigiano Reggiano": Very dense as a block, but very fluffy as grinded flakes and offers a phenomenal and intense flavour! Works very well with almost every pasta dish, but might also be consumed purely, but take care of over-eating!
Tropicana Cookies is my personal favorite. Nice purple buds with an intense orange juice aroma, it never disappoint.
My #1 favourite until now is definetley Tangerine Dream- I´m more a fruity terpene guy - and this strain absolutley tricks you into thinking youre smokeing multivitamin juice xD. Also the high is very nice not too strong and well balanced.

We didn't know the strains in the 80's but my 90's strains were Northern Lights and Afghanistan Hash Plant and Purple Indica 🇨🇦
Best pot I ever smoked was some chocolate thai from back in the 90's. It was brown with almost black resin like hairs. It was a short, bushy indica. The high was just incredible!!!

4:10 Gorilla Glue. I grew a strain of Crazy Glue where one phenotype was white from all the layers of trichomes. I'm afraid to smoke any more, because I may never see such great dank again. Got some massively strong OG Kush too. And I'm not selling any of it. I'm going to smoke it all some day.
Surprised blue dream wasn't on the list. I think people only like it because that is what alot of outdoor growers like to grow because the plants get massive yields. Blue dream was easy to get yor hands on back in the day, so it gives everyone nostalgia

I like blue dream but its a beginner strain the thc isnt really high and it has higher cbd than most other strains. Nostalgia definitely plays into it but you get for the look and flavor. I wouldnt pay alot for it tho.

The Sour Diesel from the late 90's to early 2000's is different from the Sour Diesel today. Growers say those genetics are gone. That old Sour, the old Uptown Haze I think Dominicans had that, the closest thing to that Sour is probably Gorilla Glue 4 everything else is crossed with Gelato or GSC indica hybrids. The strong sativas with great terpene profiles are getting harder to find.

Lsd from barney's. Always a joy growing it, mad looking plants, prone to ploidy in my experience so it can get real crazy looking but always very high counts..
So far my favorite is motor breath but I only ever had it in a disposable. I think I'm gonna get the actual bud though. Although I'm also looking at this strain called peach maraccino. The dispensery site has it listed as 30 percent for small buds and 27 for the preground

Amnesia Haze is and will always be my favo, no matter how much i smoke, i always get my high
But takes 11-12 weeks to be finished..

Oreoz, not sure how many would agree. Platinum Og, white runtz, permanent marker and cherry popperz would be my top 5. So many strains with so many phenotypes. Oreoz is hands down my favorite because of the benefits it provides, the side effects is a good high
