I get the feeling Ms. Travers refused red just because Richard Sherman, the one who stood up to her, was wearing a red sweater vest. Hers and Walt's stubbornness were clearly exacerbated by each other. I was pleasantly surprised that the film showed Walt drinking, smoking AND cursing, considering how protective Disney is towards the image of their founder. The detail of his persistent cough was a good detail too, as his smoking would prove to be his end.

Pretty sure the implication was she refused red because of her father coughing up blood.

No film about any true story is 100% accurate, most aren’t even 75% accurate. They have to take history and make it into something entertaining, artistic, heartwarming, etc. Real life and conversations are rarely entertaining enough to make a full movie.

Walt actually died two years after the events of this movie. Of lung cancer. Which I’m just now realizing is why you always hear him coughing when he approaches. 😭 Ouch.

i'm sorry to say there's even MORE references to his death. For example, he considered 'feed the birds' (the song which draws him back inside as he hears it) the finest song the shermans ever wrote... and had them play it for him frequently. even at his funeral.

There's a few reasons why she hates the color red:
It was partly to test Disney and partly because she actually does detest the color. When Travers’s aunt showed up tohelp, she pulled bright red flowers out of her bag. Red reminds her of a tough time for her family. Strike one for red. Secondly, and more importantly, Travers does not like the color because it reminds her of the blood her father coughed up when he was sick with tuberculosis.

    Saving Mr. Banks facts
Okay so to clarify some things.
    1. While Walt did work for 20 years to receive the rights P.L signed them over after he met her in England and then she went over to be a consultant for the film not the other way around the film portrays.
    2. While I like the scene of them all singing Let’s Go Fly a Kite it was actually the song Feed the Birds that she liked.
    3. In 1961, Travers arrived in Los Angeles on a flight from London, her first-class ticket having been paid for by Disney, and finally agreed to sell the rights, in no small part because she was financially in dire straits. Travers was an adviser in the production, but she disapproved of the Poppins character in its Disney version; with harsher aspects diluted, she felt ambivalent about the music and she so hated the use of animation that she ruled out any further adaptations of the series. She received no invitation to the film's star-studded première until she "embarrassed a Disney executive into extending one". At the after-party, she said loudly "Well. The first thing that has to go is the animation sequence." Disney replied, "Pamela, the ship has sailed" and walked away. Travers so disliked the Disney adaptation and the way she felt she had been treated during the production that when producer Cameron Mackintosh approached her years later about making the British stage musical, she acquiesced only on conditions that British writers alone and no one from the original film production were to be directly involved. That specifically excluded the Sherman Brothers from writing additional songs for the production. However, original songs and other aspects from the 1964 film were allowed to be incorporated into the production. Those points were even stipulated in her last will and testament.
    4. After some research she wrote a total of seven Mary Poppins books with the last being released in 1988 when she was 89,
Some Disney films I would recommend for the channel that are documentaries about people or eras that happened with the studio include:
The Boys The Sherman Brothers Story,
    Frank and Ollie,
UB Iwerks The Hand Behind The Mouse,
    Waking Sleeping Beauty,
Walt The Man Behind the Myth,
    The Pixar Story,
    Floyd Norman: An Animated Life,

    • @twist58
      @twist58 2 года назад +9

It’s sad Travers was never a fan of the animation, nor the final product of the 1964 film, but I’ve read in the history books that she begrudgingly accepted the film under the condition she was allowed full acknowledgement credit.
I have seen three of those documentaries myself like Frank & Ollie, The Pixar Story, and Floyd Norman (the latter whom I’ve personally met at Comic-Con International during one summer).

At first that I didn’t understand why she’s acting like that, until I found out what happen about her past

This movie is good but P L travers is kind of a jerk, like if she called my stuff silly I'd be upset.

Walt Disney spent years trying to get the rights cause he promised his children. He even fooled her and added cartoons anyway. It didn’t matter how good the movie was, she never liked it, even though she did admitted many years later it was good on it’s own right. But she still maintained her own, personal dislike. Honestly, you don’t know who to root for here. Walt for bringing such a great movie to life even if he had to insist and even fool somebody, or P.L. Travers who was clearly an emotional broken woman too protective of her work.

Not exactly accurate to reality but a good movie. P.L hated the Disney version until the day she died.

I am 50/50 on this film. I like the movie but I think it would of been more interesting too watch a Disney bio. Walt's story seems more interesting than the Mary Poppin's author.

Lol thats a different movie entirely. I’m sure they’ll make that one day but this story (one about alcoholism, fathers, and art) is one that needed to be told, as well.
