    Hi Donna! That was an awesome thing to watch!! And for you and MaryEllen below, you sure do have a male and female hummer. The male has the bright red throat and the females are duller. It seems like your hummers are a little different than the ones I get here in Western New York. I have the Ruby Throated Hummers. They are so much fun to watch. If you are outside with any kind of red clothing on, they will buzz you! I am so going to try that feeder you made. It must have been so awesome for your daughter to feel the breeze from their wings and to have that tiny female land on her thumb was so cool!! Great job she did standing so still, if it hadn't been for the birds, she looked like a statue! I actually checked to see if she was breathing!! lol She stood so still! Thanks for this experience!😊😊💕💕😻

    • @IzzyBee_Crafts
      @IzzyBee_Crafts 7 месяцев назад +3

      I feel like at some points I wasn't breathing, I was so focused at getting the hummingbirds to trust me. At some points I could feel the hummingbirds wings/ tale feathers brush up against my skin while they were chasing each other!!

      The males always have a shiny colourful neck/chest, the females are are more dull in colour and don't have a colourful neck/chest. The females are more dull in colour to blend into their nesting spots. Sometimes the males with fight over the females too, it's fun to watch. You can also sometimes hear and see males diving in the air to get females attention. They make a loud buzzing nose, and you can hear them doing this from pretty far away.

    • @IzzyBee_Crafts

      Were we live we think we have a main few that come around; red rufous, calliope, and we think brod tail. The brod tail and calliope are hard to tell apart, but we will sometimes see bigger green and purple hummingbirds. Which we think are brod tails

      It was amazing. I would feel the hummingbirds feather touch my skin when they were fighting each other. At one point when I wasn't recording I had a hummingbird sit on my forearm without feeding for a good minute, which is a long time for a hummingbird. This and doing a school project on hummingbirds gave me more of a appreciation for these beautiful creatures that God made!💖

    One question? How long did you ha e to sit likevthat untill they came to eat,? Thanks

    • @IzzyBee_Crafts
      @IzzyBee_Crafts 6 месяцев назад +1

      Great question. I didn't have to wait long, maybe 5 minutes. I took down our main feeder and went outside in the evening at around 6. I found that the hummingbirds would come around to feed before night fell. It was also cooler the couple of evenings I had went out, which means that the hummingbirds had to feed more often to stay warm. But once they started to come and feed the kept coming, I stood there for maybe an hour or so before they started to go away for the night❤

      I didn't have to wait long. I took the main hummingbird feeder down while doing this. It was also in the evening and it was cooler. Hummingbirds have to feed very often to be able to fly and stay warm. When it cooler they come even more often. So if you stand still enough they will feed from your hands!
