We had a pair of guineas when I was little. I don’t remember a whole lot about them besides them being really loud and not very smart. The female actually got hit by a car. It wasn’t like we lived on a busy street either, it was very sad because after that, the male sat up in a tree and just cried until the poor thing mourned himself to death. We were told that they bond for life and he wouldn’t take another mate. I guess that bad experience had blinded me to the idea they could be useful. I actually never knew they were good for much other than noise so I have learned a lot here!!

Ok, we have 3 Guineas. I am fairly certain, based on your video, that our white one is a female. She has a two syllable call. She is the most vocal one. I haven’t heard the other two make noises recently. All three have the same physical characteristics though…helmet pointed backwards. Their waddles are very red though, which is kind of confusing me. But I’m sure I’ll hear the other ones soon. Thanks for sharing this!

I’m getting my own hopefully this summer, but I have heard that they are much better eaten younger than older ones. Looking forward to it

My guineas are 4 1/2 weeks old. I bought straight run. And yesterday, one was stuck in a separate pen in our barn, definitely a female. 😅 I always thought the female call resembled them saying buckwheat.
