I’d suggest you all get out there and see it for yourself. I have been out here since day one and this just isn’t happening how the rumors are leading people to believe. Nothing we have or haven’t received has had anything to do with political views or voting that is absolutely made up. We are all coming together out here and nobody has given one single shit who anyone voted for.

We’re behind on the garlic and potato onions. We hope to start on them Monday . We’re processing meat birds and splitting wood today . I’m going to have to build another wood shed from all the fallen trees .

I've tried multiple times, to over Winter peppers. I have never succeeded. This year I learned about plants dormancy and what is needed to trigger that, and I am going to try one more time by giving them only 9 hours of light. I managed to get 3 plants through last nights frost, with 2 layers of frost cloth. I lost everything that was not under cover. Stay safe and warm, guys.

Truth item. The federal government is where those huge helicopters have come from. FEMA is definitely working in Asheville which is a very large city with many people but there is such tremendous need that must be addressed. The $750 is for immediate use and it would be rare for them to ask for it back. This is huge and the impact is tremendous on this area. There was a significant threat directed toward FEMA workers and it likely came from MAGA people. Don't swallow the information whole because these people are limited to a small area and they can't see the entire problem.

Can't wait to see how this experiment turns out! We love peppers as well. Our favorite is the Advarski pepper. My wife took all the peppers that were left when we closed up the garden and made a wonderful pepper sauce, kinda spicy but not too hot. God Bless you guys

Maybe I am missing something but they lost some trees, fences and utilities, why would FEMA or the government be there vs places that lost whole houses?

I want people to stop, take a moment and think. When people are telling you that emergency management is going to seize your land (when they are not able to do this anymore than I am as a 911 dispatcher) in an attempt to scare you out of filing for assistance that might be able to prevent many people from losing their land… Exactly who is trying to do a land grab? Unknown/anon accounts online that are clearly not in the hardest hit areas have spread around a ton of misinformation. Unfortunately people that have come here to help have brought this bad info with them. Most aren’t doing it intentionally, but you have to stay on your toes. In the wake of every disaster con artists, grifters and scammers descend on the hard hit areas. They tend to talk people out of filing applications for assistance. They tend to tell people to trust them to help, take the money and run. Identity thrives and scammers have been known to comb through debris looking ID’s and personal info. They always try to file an application for assistance with FEMA in the name of someone that has lost it all. This works best when the people that have lost it all have been scared into not filing an application. The amount of scams and disinformation seen in the wake of Helene is much larger than usual. I fully believe most people that came into help really want to help but I’ve seen examples of some on RUclips that are snakes in the grass.

I would ask you to please not trust everything you hear as well. I’m a lifelong WNC resident and a 911 dispatcher of 21 years. Almost all of us were unable to communicate for 4-5 days. Some still aren’t. This will result in widespread miscommunications and misunderstandings. There is no way around it. You can go back and check broadcasts and read articles. No one in the MSM was saying everything was good. People came into help because all the broadcasts were talking about catastrophic flooding and countless people being cut off and in of help. Where do you think the media was getting that info from if the majority in WNC were unable to call out? The only people able to communicate on handheld radios were emergency responders, state EM, federal EM, the national guard and military. The only helicopters immediately in the air showing people the damage and destruction were NG, military, highway patrol, EM and medical. Several people do not know what FEMA does and this causes misunderstandings. Local, state and federal emergency management all tell people that they need to do what they can to help themselves and each other in the immediate wake of a natural disaster. The idea that the government can swoop in and do everything at once in FL, GA, SC, WNC, TN and VA is obviously too much for someone to reasonably expect. Local responders are going to have their hands full with multiple rescues - after they just went through the same storm - and there is no reasonable way to expect them to do everything at once. That said, I can tell you for a fact that state and federal emergency management were in WNC before the storm hit. We were declared a disaster area before the storm hit to get additional people in here to help. Fed and state EM had the N.C. National Guard on the ground before Helene hit, along with additional responders from all over N.C. and different states and additional military personnel. All were bringing in aid. They had additional support for power companies, water & sewer, DOT and other utility providers. All of the additional utility crews and DOT workers you see… that’s part of what FEMA does. One small part. We were expecting a bad storm. We got a catastrophic monster that obliterated roads and much of our infrastructure. No one was able to fully predict this. The hardest hit areas in WNC alone is are the size of the state of Massachusetts. State and Fed EM immediately called for military support. They called for more aid. The first people to see the FEMA workers that do applications for assistance were those rescued and taken to shelters. FEMA does a whole lot in between filing applications for assistance and requesting aid. You have unfortunately been told a lot of bad information. The claim that the 750 is a loan that you have to pay back or they will seize your land was made by an anonymous troll of TikTok calling himself FEMA inspector. It’s a lie. It’s not a loan, FEMA cannot arrest you or seize your land, and the 750 special needs assistance is far from the only help people can get. I’d be more leery of the people trying to direct you away from assistance that can help you rebuild your life. They clearly want people to lose it all.

I just took the time to read all the comments and responses to comments. So sorry you had to wade through some of them but please keep in mind that the clear majority of comments are affirming. Thier minority is what makes the loonies stand out so much. God knows what really happened and even why it happened with no need of help from the media talking heads. What is more, He deeply loves you and cannot take His eye off of you. I will be more focused in my prayer for you during this rebuilding. Hope it doesn't get too cold tonight.

So glad the soldiers came by to try to help. They are good guys, aren't they? Hope they become very helpful to those in need without depriving the community togetherness that has been happening. We regularly have peppers grow and produce for two years straight at our house in Mexico. One of ours would not be your favorite. It grows colorful tiny peppers about the size of a small pearl but bright red. Just one of those tiny ones will light up an entire caldron of chili. You called me out so I will comment on transplanting them. Normally, I would cut off at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the mass when transplanting them if they were dug from the garden. You likely did not get more than about 20% of the root ball and throw a small amount of rabbit droppings. Just for fun you should be able to save a few peppers on the plants but not many. If you can keep them warm enough, I imagine the fruits can continue to grow a tiny bit. My charge for the advice is three seeds of the Jimmy Nardello seeds if you were able to save any seeds. I will trade you some of my Marzano tomato seeds if you want a few.

The $750.00 is immediate emergency fund tgen there is another fund that you can apply for for repairs lodging and so on so quit spreadlng stuff that is not fact

I will try this too...usually the plants I bring in create aphids and other pests...but will try the grow lights.

We've gotten 2 seasons from a Cowhorn pepper. It produced well both years. To overwinter we put it in a 5 gal bucket and cut back most of t he foliage & left 1 or 2 nodes after the main stalk. We watered it sparingly.

Where do you think the money to repair/replace roads, bridges, infrastructure? Think fed gov through states DOTs and private contractors….

I have watched many videos from many different RUclips channels. Here's what I have seen: 1) People from all over the country have sent supplies of every kind from very early on. 2) People from all over the country have delivered those supplies. 3) People from all over the country have volunteered their time, vehicles, trailers, 18-wheelers, heavy equipment, etc. 4) Those people have built and repaired many roads. 5) I didn't see FEMA, NCNG or military until somewhere around day 10. 6) I heard those entities were out possibly by day seven. 7) I watched a channel (Gentry & Sons Trucking, I believe) and heard people spreading the word that they had to stop the road construction until they went and applied and were given the okay from DOT. 8) I saw FEMA set up in a parking lot in a community (Glenn Beck channel) where the bulk of the people could not get out because there were no roads. FEMA (at that location) said they would not be going door to door. 9) The American people rescued people, cut the trees that had fallen, fed people etc. etc. 10) And the American people are still sending help and supplies. 11) I have never seen such an outpouring of love and compassion. 12) What I haven't seen is FEMA or any other agency asking people at our southern border to fill out applications for the thousands of dollars being given to them. 13) This has renewed/and confirmed my faith in the people and confirmed my beliefs/distrust in our government. 14) Had it not been for the RUclipsrs and other social media covering this disaster, there would not have been this tremendous response because the mainstream coverage was slim. 15) God bless the people and this country.

Nailed it ! The crooked creek community and local church took care of each other . Old Fort’s rural area received No help what so ever . Volunteer were amazing from all over . We didn’t get any power trucks in are are until day 10 and it was only 2 trucks . Roy took care of Ashville and gave them all the media attention. Thanks for using your platform to let people really know what’s going on in WNC . Love you guys glad your safe hope to see you soon .The roads are completely wash out and down to a single fresh graded dirt road to get up to you .

You may not see FEMA but they are reimbursing all of the money that the local and state governments are spending to get things back in order. I thought I was going to leave a like but I can’t. Shameful

I live outside Asheville. No. They abandoned a lot of people to die in WNC. Consider all the civilian helicopter rescues Americans have seen on social media. Those were American citizens our government decided to let die. Nor is the federal government reimbursing owners for fuel they bought at thousands of dollars per day to do the government's job.
