- Today, Team Rocket is expanding their efforts, going across all generations to find out just how fast you can capture a Pikachu in every game!!!
If you love unique Pokémon challenges as well as uncovering facts about the games you never knew, then you are going to love my channel! I am currently working on the "How fast can you catch X in EVERY Pokémon game" series
where we track down specific pokemon, types, and other interesting groupings in the most optimal way possible.
I use a heavy amount of research and analysis in search of the answer to each episode's question, aiming to tell a fun story of the often tedious but exciting adventures I go through along the way!

@@ivankoblov364 That would violate one of the rules he set at the start of the video.
So, I don't know if you were aware, but putting a Pokémon with Static in the first spot of your party increases the chance of encountering a Pokémon with Static. Catching an Electrike may have helped in Ruby. Edit: double-checking my facts has led me to realize that it doesn't work in Ruby and Sapphire, just Emerald and later.
I remember your rules, but why didn't you choose Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum Versions instead of Gold, Ruby, and Diamond Versions?

The most shocking thing about this video is that merely completing the Melemele Island's first totem takes almost the same time as getting to Hearthome City/Safari Zone in DP/RS respectively.

I like to think that Giovanni sent Jessie and James on that mission to keep them out of the way of his more important plans. He was possibly invested in getting it in the beginning but quickly moved on to getting stronger pokemon
Nah, Giovanni didn't give a damn about that Pikachu until at least later BW where it broke his plan to control the Forces of Nature with a super massive Electro Ball.

The reason they are moved around to new regions each time is due to the fact that they are often involved in the removal of other evil teams. Less competition

Slight correction: you were able to skip the double battle with the twins on route 104 because double battle trainers did not have vision in ruby and sapphire. that was added in emerald.
OMG I had this thought cross my mind this in editing but didn't get the chance to really double check that, thanks for catching this! :)
But they wouldn't battle you regardless if you have a single Pokemon yeah? They only fight if you have two Pokemon, like all double battles with twins or couples. They even say stuff like "We won't battle you if you don't have two Pokemon" or "I won't fight you if I can't fight alongside my twin"
@ncisfan1002 yeah, but in Emerald version, they won't let you pass unless you beat them. They'll line-of-sight react and talk to you, then point out you can't battle and send you back the way you came.
@@RabblesTheBinx I guess that makes sense to properly prepare you for the twin gym leaders. I'm glad other games don't do that

This just feels so original and unique, yet such a simple idea that I felt compelled to watch

Given how memerun-laden the really popular speed games gotten in the last few years it's surprising that "Pikachu%" doesn't exist yet.

In order to become a recognized Speedrun with a maintained leaderboard you need a specified reviewed and approved ruleset, and a minimum of six people actively running the category.
I doubt any mod has reviewed our ruleset and we severely lack playerbase.

Something I'm curious about, for the Pikachu in Sun/Moon, since it takes considerable time to beat the first totem Pokemon, how fast would it be to capture a Pichu early on and friendship evolve it instead? Though I suppose evolving and "friendship" would go against the theme of the video.
I would also have loved to see Pokemon Yellow included just as a joke. "Professor Oak just gives us a Pikachu!"
Don’t forget Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee. If he were to do that, he’d just do let’s go Eevee and get the Pikachu in Viridian Forest. Then you also have to include Legends: Arceus.

I think 2 very interesting alternative options for this kind of challenge would be how quickly can you catch a dragon type/ice type in each generation because those are often later game and probably would have interesting requirements to obtain

I think it would be cool if you do a sequel for the Pokemon spin-off games. Pokemon Ranger and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon definitely come to mind, but I’m sure there are more spin-off games you could do this in

would you becoming a Pikachu cunt as a capture in mystery Dungeon? Or your friend being a Pikachu count. because you get a friend.
My only "problem" with this idea is that in Mystery Dungeon Pikachu can be either the player or partner character, so it would be mostly how fast can you skip the intro of every game.
Yeah, this really doesn't work in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon unless you specifically have a no starter clause.

I have only played the first 3 generations of Pokemon. But I loved that feature of your Mom keeping some of your money in Gen 2 and wish they had kept that feature in later generations.

Technically, you can get pikachu earlier in gen 1. Pokémon Yellow gives you a starter pikachu.

This was a really interesting video, the idea is getting a bit played out, but this was memeworthy enough and with enough actual thinking and process involved that it was worth the watch.
I am glad to see the skip used in S/V, I thought I was so special when I found that on my own day one, lol. Ended up having a full team of level 40s walking all over the region treating it like my own made up adventure rather than following the story, it was super fun. If a bit slow due to the immense amount of walking I did.

Thank you for ACTUALLY speedrunning to complete the challenge. These "how long until x" videos are funny but hardly ever actually try their hardest to go as fast as possible.

I'm not sure how my soul feels seeing a masterball being used on a level 4 pikachu. He wasn't even chonky chu
Small details: All Double Battles except for Liza and Tate's are optional in Ruby and Sapphire regardless of how many pokemon you have. It isn't until Emerald where they can challenge you.
Also, in Black and White, you technically can "catch" Pikachu in a minigane by transferring it from Gen 4. I believe it also could've been obtained from Global Link as well before that went defunct.

X and Y, you can basically have Pikachu as your first encounter in the game it's so close to the starting town. Unless you count the guaranteed pidgey encounter in the second row of the first patch of grass in the game.
A little trick, if you ever nuzlocke the game, you can get pokeballs early in the shop in starting town. It has a sign with a pokeball. If you are counting static encounters separately, I think that pidgey falls under the Claus and you can get 2 encounters in the first route in the game.

This is absolutely one of my favorite segments of this channel. I love how Pan always shows us cartoons that haven’t garnered enough attention or the ones that are often overlooked on other lists.
Every other generation: you have to do a couple stuff to catch Pikachu
gen2: you have to complete half the game to catch a Pikachu

Well... That's due to these cutscenes being rendered in-engine, the ones that the option skips are pre-rendered which amount for, very little.
It's almost as if GameFreak wants to still guide the player and the "best" way to do it is through endless amounts of dialogue boxes.
I get the challenge was to capture Pikachu, so maybe this method would be null and void, but there is a much faster method. The Odd Egg. It can hatch into a Pichu which can then be evolved into a Pikachu. Odd Egg can be obtained as early as Goldenrod at the Daycare. That said, it is not technically catching a Pikachu since 1) You receive the Egg as a gift and 2) It starts off as a Pichu in your possession.

Tip, i was a sicko who tried to get volt tackle, and light orb in gen 3, so if you wanted to speed up the process on RSE, you could add a pokemon with static on the first slot of your party, so pikachu gets easier to encounter.
Love this! At some point during all this madness, my brain briefly recalled checking abilities, but I think I overlooked it by assuming it wouldn't work in the safari zone. XD Thanks so much for pointing this out! I bet there could be a way to route this in and save on that big chunk of safari time!

It is an Emerald exclusive thing, and I wasn't sure that would even still be possible in the Safari Zone since you can't use your team in battles.

5:34 You saying that "Bite is still a special move in Gen 2" made me think about the changes that move had over the generations. It started as a Normal move, which meant it was physical in Gen 1. It became a Dark move in Gen 2, which meant it was special, which continued into Gen 3. Gen 4 finally split moves into physical and special rather than having the entire type be one or the other, so it becomes a physical move again. That's just some trivia, it's inconsequential to this run. All that aside, this is a pretty fun idea for a challenge, and I definitely wouldn't mind seeing more like this. If I might make a suggestion, Meowth or Jigglypuff might also be good options since they're also popular enough to be considered mascots.
