Pete this reminds me of the time the song came out I was about 16 I'm now 74 I got to know a lad named Keith and he was so fat he said one day come and meet my mum I felt so embarrassed as we stood at the bus stop anyway I met his mum and she said I wernt good enough for him lol yrs later god love him he died I'm still here 😂
You might already know but if not I can tell you the move came up with this to complete an album - during the train journey to London from brum - not bad considering its only a couple of hours even in the 60s !!
I reckon totally every band known were competing and upping their Anti. This song is so good. Ihsve loads of 45s. This was 1 of them from my elder siblings's collections. Now to put my wig on and my flares proper flares with the double stitching on the outside, not the inside! 😂😂😂❤
If ever there was a song that testified to the genius of Roy Wood, this is it. It stood out then and stands out even now. Brilliant bit of song writing ... and lyrics to match.
Great to hear this song again. The Move were one of my favourite 60s bands and Fire Brigade was a great song from 1968. Sounds as good today as it did when it was released 55 years ago.
The song that turned me on to the move as a 10 year old my late mother thought woody was a freak.still the best single from the lads.my song to be played at my funeral still stands up today as fresh.
Oh, this takes me right back to my school days. At that time, ToTPs was recorded on Wednesdays in the Lime Grove studios. Me and my neighbour Billie would pop down the road on a school night to stand outside and wait to see the stars leaving. It was a great thrill for 2 silly girls. Lovely memories.
Loved The Move and everything Roy Wood did. Saw his Christmas show in Sheffield, England a few years ago. Perfect renditions of everything he did; Move, early ELO, Wizzard, Whizzo Band, solo. All perfect.
superb fantastic vocals harmonies i bought this record in 1968 still got it ..bit worn but i still play it...a testiment to carl wayne who sadly isnt with us any longer r.i.p..carl
Ace The Face on bass. Rock legend. Great showman. Never got the credit he deserved. The Move actually looked threatening with him and Burton on stage together. Just a pop group when he left. Used to frequent my record store in the 90's. Lovely fella. Rock on Ace !!
I was just wondering if anyone else remembered the names of Trevor Burton and Chris "Ace" Kefford. It was always Roy, Carl & Bev who seemed to get the attention back in 68.
Sue Richardson Isn't that always the way though? The songwriter/lead singer nearly always get the most attention. Although Carl Wayne felt that Kefford and Burton were the heart and driving force of the band originally and that it all started to go downhill when Kefford left. Bevan gets more attention than Kefford and Burton because he stayed around longer.
I agree totally Dumfries Spearhead. Are you really in DUmfries (Scotland)? Eeee just 40 minutes up the road from me. Lol. Even today though Roy Wood puts on a good show.
Was reading in Paul Stanley's book that this song is where he got the idea to start writing Firehouse at 16 years old by simply starting the chorus. "Firehouse, cause she sets my soul afire".
I just can't hear this enough times at the moment... It's an addiction. I woke up singing it randomly on Tuesday and it's been going all week. I've leaned the chords for it on the guitar and I'm playing it all the time... Help!
I love this the way I love so many songs from the sixties. I am really attracted to the line, "See the building start to really burn." It is so in sync with the era, it reminds of rallies and barricades and massive demonstrations and, yes, burning buildings.
Me too my friend , I was in high school , just loved all these songs 🎵 from that era , life is too short ,, and now I'm 69 yrs old , that went by so quickly,
When I was a young girl this was the most risky song ever. I sort of liked The Move (I had seen them in those suits) but then they changed. Still, at school i imagined myself that girl (oh, how I wished). This is still a song I like from my youth.
Takes me back to England ,when it was England? I was 10 remember it on top of the pops, was happy then? now a manic depressive? Wish i could dive in the screen and go back to instant happiness?
Bev bevan is a true legend of percussion and gent too was at the move last official gig and as late as it was he had time for everybody on their way out.
This came to mind as i watched five fire engines tearing along london's embankment this evening . Haven't heard it in decades , had to listen once again .
A good pop quiz question would be 'which one of these musicians in The Move video would play with Black Sabbath later on?' That would be drummer Bev Bevan, who toured with Black Sabbath on their 1983 Born Again world tour.
When the world was a much happier place. What the hell went wrong. I used to listen to this in reverse on my reel-to-reel taperecorder. The very best of the Move.
So here I am watching TV... snooker from Sheffield... and for some reason this song popped into my head. Why I don't know but just had to give it a full listen... Roy Wood heading up The Move with a great song of my youth, but rubbish miming though.. 😂
Saw Roy guest a Cheap Trick show @ Tramps NYC one Thanksgiving '95: California Man (of course), Blackberry Way & Fire Brigade! And Roy stuck for encore vocals on Dream Police. Heady night. Helluva show.
Love this song! I got into 60s music as a teenager watching Pop Quiz with Mike Read and also my older brothers. I wish my 12 year old daughter could appreciate this music, sadly, she is into One Direction.
That was the greatness of the early Move songs. All members shared lead vocals and sang Hollies-style harmonies too. They lost it when Ace Kefford left the band in 1968
I was in the Birmingham Fire Brigade when this song was released. I attended a fire in Handsworth and someone played this to us.
Great song!
Pete this reminds me of the time the song came out I was about 16 I'm now 74 I got to know a lad named Keith and he was so fat he said one day come and meet my mum I felt so embarrassed as we stood at the bus stop anyway I met his mum and she said I wernt good enough for him lol yrs later god love him he died I'm still here 😂
Jesus, what a fantastic pop song. 52 years old & still sounding perfect.
The absolute peak for the Move. You can see how into it they all are.
Yes, it is an absolutely great song.
Proud to say l was a teenager when this released and still rocking
Sounds like trash
You might already know but if not I can tell you the move came up with this to complete an album - during the train journey to London from brum - not bad considering its only a couple of hours even in the 60s !!
1968 What a year for great and brilliant songs.
Got to agree with you man. Really was the Swinging 60s
I reckon totally every band known were competing and upping their Anti. This song is so good. Ihsve loads of 45s. This was 1 of them from my elder siblings's collections. Now to put my wig on and my flares proper flares with the double stitching on the outside, not the inside! 😂😂😂❤
Your right there fella,The sixties were the best years for music and as you said 68 was the pinnacle.
If ever there was a song that testified to the genius of Roy Wood, this is it. It stood out then and stands out even now. Brilliant bit of song writing ... and lyrics to match.
Jeff Lynn too 🎼🙏
......I'm going for " whisper in the night" on E L O first album.....give it a listen......
Great to hear this song again.
The Move were one of my favourite 60s bands and Fire Brigade was a great song from 1968.
Sounds as good today as it did when it was released 55 years ago.
Under 2.30 of genius...what melodies. Magic Mr Wood and the boys!
The song that turned me on to the move as a 10 year old my late mother thought woody was a freak.still the best single from the lads.my song to be played at my funeral still stands up today as fresh.

Great days, that's what you call lovely memories, hang on to them.
Happy days, a lovely story. Wish I could turn back the clock lol
Roy Wood is a true LEGEND!!!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏

Brilliant
I got this for my 10th birthday in 1968 and still love it.
Ace The Face on bass. Rock legend. Great showman. Never got the credit he deserved. The Move actually looked threatening with him and Burton on stage together. Just a pop group when he left. Used to frequent my record store in the 90's. Lovely fella. Rock on Ace !!
Is he playing on one of those rare Fender 'slab' basses?
@@faeembrugh Well spotted yes it is 😉👍🏻
Roy fresh from the crusades 🤔
Trevor Burton and Ace Kefford always gave the Move a cutting visual edge, and it's demonstrated perfectly here.
I was just wondering if anyone else remembered the names of Trevor Burton and Chris "Ace" Kefford. It was always Roy, Carl & Bev who seemed to get the attention back in 68.

Yeah they were the dynamic duo
@@GeorgeCrumb3923 always scrapping to 😂 not sure who said that wood or wayne
The Move were a fantastic rock band
First time listening to them, they were very good mate.
Roy always seems happier when playing this tune. I love that
Yeah, the whole band are up for this one.
GREAT song writing! Roy Wood and Bev Bevan are psychedelic royalty!!!
I love the mid 8 in this song. Simple, brilliant little counter melody.
Good to see Dave Cash doing the intro. Kenny and Cash was my favourite radio show on the Pirates.
Wow ,was für ein Song!!
Liebe Grüße aus Leipzig
Their best single and a great performance here on TOTP hosted by Dave Cash.
Was reading in Paul Stanley's book that this song is where he got the idea to start writing Firehouse at 16 years old by simply starting the chorus. "Firehouse, cause she sets my soul afire".

One of my first memories of TOTP and still one of the greatest songs ever.
I remember this from my school days. Time goes so quick. And life really is to short.
We had the best music EVER.
Me too my friend , I was in high school , just loved all these songs 🎵 from that era , life is too short ,, and now I'm 69 yrs old , that went by so quickly,
Quality song, first heard/saw this on Top of the Pops 2 in 1992. That was 30 years ago and this song was only 24 years old then.
Love Roy Wood since I was 7yrs old saw him on totps in 1967... Hooked.. 🎉❤
Can't we go back to when this was pop music no issues, no messages, just pop music.I loved the 60s ❤
You are having a laugh. 1968 was the year of unrest all over the globe!
First single I ever owned....bought for me by my mum as i was only 3. Still an amazing track....wish my brother would give me my copy back 🤔
Can't get this out of my head 😫 😅
When I was a young girl this was the most risky song ever. I sort of liked The Move (I had seen them in those suits) but then they changed. Still, at school i imagined myself that girl (oh, how I wished).
This is still a song I like from my youth.
una mckillen h
My Mum wouldn't let me buy this because of THAT line!
Sonny & Cher instead … oh dear!
Takes me back to England ,when it was England? I was 10 remember it on top of the pops, was happy then? now a manic depressive? Wish i could dive in the screen and go back to instant happiness?
Fire Brigade
The Move
Cast your mind back ten years
To the girl who's next to me in school
If I put my hand upon her leg
She'd hit me with a rule
Though tomorrow won't be long
You're gonna have to play it cool
You've been fascinated by her
She could set the place on fire
Run and get the fire brigade
Get the fire brigade
See the buildings start to really burn
(Ooh) Get the fire brigade
Get the fire brigade
If you jump, you've got to wait your turn
Friends all seem to laugh
I feel I have to make a compromise
Try to reassure myself
My head must need some exercise
Half past ten in the morning
She just took me by surprise
True, she set the place on fire
You've been fascinated by her
Run and get the fire brigade
Get the fire brigade
See the buildings start to really burn
(Ooh) Get the fire brigade
Get the fire brigade
If you jump, you've got to wait your turn
The lights across the street
Throw a rainbow in her hair
I'd love you all to meet her
I'll be there, I'll be there
Notice that my eyes have been
A misty place since Saturday
Brings a feeling we might need
The fire engines anyway
Though tomorrow won't be long
We're gonna have to play it cool
You've been fascinated by her
She could set the place on fire
Run and get the fire brigade
Get the fire brigade
See the buildings start to really burn
(Ooh) Get the fire brigade
Get the fire brigade
If you jump, you've got to wait your turn

Classic song from a brilliant band 😊
Bev bevan is a true legend of percussion and gent too was at the move last official gig and as late as it was he had time for everybody on their way out.
My dad met him a few times when he was in ELO and they were absolutely huge - same, always had time for people.
those naughty lyrics, the "siren" backing vocals on the chorus...sheer timeless genius. Roy Wood, we bow down to thee!
I was delivering bread for landers in Kettering at this time, Good days. ❤❤
The Brummie Beatles, lol. Always loved this. Underatted band, much like the Kinks and the Small Faces in this regard.
best band ever after the who
there never was a cooler bass player than ace kefford
If it wasnt for top gear i wouldn't have ever heard this song ❤️👌 Top gear has showed many good things 👌👌
Great song! Love the switch of vocals from Roy Wood to Carl Wayne.
Thank you, Jeremy. It's an absolute Gem.
The Move is One Band That Get You Going, Fire Brigade Get You Moving!
The year of the perfect pop songs.
What a song!!! Move was better than most of the more famous bands!
First record i bought 👍
They were very famous in the UK. Not so much elsewhere unfortunately.
I agree with you
When the world was a much happier place. What the hell went wrong. I used to listen to this in reverse on my reel-to-reel taperecorder. The very best of the Move.
Is easier to think the world is a happy place when you're young and innocent. This is a nice song
It's like we're being punished for anything that was any good back then and music certainly was. The 21st century is absolutely disgusting.
The original band was lucky to see them live twice and they were absolutely brilliant at the time musically second only to The Who
Fantastic song and brilliant band, Oh! what a good looking guy Roy is under all that hair lol
What a rocking good song this was. Happy memories!
Excellent track very 60's just love it.
The song uses a riff derived from "Somethin' Else" by Eddie Cochran, a work that Wood would continue to reference throughout his career

I remember humming this all day at school. Now I'm 58 and still humming it...….
Good on you, dont stop.
Very good.
So here I am watching TV... snooker from Sheffield... and for some reason this song popped into my head. Why I don't know but just had to give it a full listen...
Roy Wood heading up The Move with a great song of my youth, but rubbish miming though.. 😂
You'd be right. It IS a young Bev Bevan on those drums!!!
OOOHHHHHH
that's the youngest I have ever seen him.
Bev Bevans and Eric Stewart [Mindbenders 10cc] both had that little boy face well into their late 40's.
Incredible song! I wish it was on streaming services so I could listen to it in high quality. Roy Wood rules!
Absolute talent take me back to those days
Anything Roy wood or Ray Davies touched epic brilliance, 80s kid
I love them, 2000's kid
Love Roy Woods voice - always did even when I was 11 yrs old and loved this song.
Sorry kids you were given a raw deal not to be around in these days of the Move.
We have much less bands now, but there are still a few like Greeta Van Fleet and there are also bands which are still active like The Stones
Lol, its so long ago your reference to 'kids' would include 50 year olds.
I have always adored the music of The Move. Their songs were super cool!
I was and still remember how brilliant this was from junior school '68. FAB.
I'd say they were eternally blessed
I got this for my 13th birthday. ❤️
These was the times music was so so good
Great to see Dave Cash,
For those who care...This is the song that influenced Paul Stanley of KISS to write the song Firehouse.
+B Real Yep, Kiss will be the first to tell you how much The Move was a big influence for them...
Also Cheap Trick was influenced by The Move.
Kiss LOL who next will you quote bonjerky? Lol
+DealReal12 Please take your meds!
This song is influenced by Eddie Cochran
Great 60's band, Their songs are still so vibrant.
прелесть 😖❤️👍
Awesome!❤
Paul Stanley’s book brought me here. I don’t recall this tune but it’s very 60s and British influence. Interesting.
growing up in the u.k., they were just part of the fabric. only now do i realize just good they really were.
' To były czasy, to było Radio Luxemburg. Pozdrowienia z Polski, z Warszawy.🇵🇱
They all were young & talented
Amazing song absolutely beautiful
Described as the greatest song that could have been written by Eddie Cochran.
great song, one of the best for that era.
still gotta listen to this classic in times of a scamdemic. 68 we got on with it.
GREAT DAYS GREAT MUSIC.
Wow~! I love The Move.
Strange - The TOTP's announcer sounds quite American.
Thanks for posting this!
Canadian actually
Dave Cash. He was British but had spent some years working in Canada, hence the accent.
The DJ is Dave Cash, and he is described as British/Canadian.
Saw Roy guest a Cheap Trick show @ Tramps NYC one Thanksgiving '95: California Man (of course), Blackberry Way & Fire Brigade! And Roy stuck for encore vocals on Dream Police. Heady night. Helluva show.
Fantastic, I love this song
Amazin 45 , thanks to the Move , excellent band 👌 👏 🤩😍❤
Oh no am I really so old I remember this and bought it!!! Fabulous record/song.
Really enjoyed this, thanx for posting. At least BBC didn't swipe this one
One of the greatest British bands from the mid 1960s. Carl Wayne and Roy Wood were legends.
Amazing!👍👏👏👏
Carl wayne when on song had a great voice
He is and always was beautiful! Love ya, Roy!
このシングル盤を持っていて、ディスクユニオンで売った。何と、370円が4,300円大化けしたよ!ロイウッドが好きだった。
Love this song! I got into 60s music as a teenager watching Pop Quiz with Mike Read and also my older brothers. I wish my 12 year old daughter could appreciate this music, sadly, she is into One Direction.
Perfect Pop,one of the best ever!:-)
one of the first songs i remember as a kid at school in sunderland. thanks Roy.
Funny, this also reminds me of grammar school back in the late 60's...
Paul Stanley of Kiss said be based the song "Fire House" from this.
Bev Bevan still going strong now - I saw his band supporting Jasper Carrott in Eastbourne a couple of weeks ago.
It's pretty odd that my first wife's name was Bev. True story.
I love how the lead vocals are shared on roy woods songs
That was the greatness of the early Move songs. All members shared lead vocals and sang Hollies-style harmonies too. They lost it when Ace Kefford left the band in 1968
23rd March 2023 , yes, i am still listening
Brilliant music from a brilliant era
I was 14 when it came out. Brought back some good memories.
What a freakin plethora of talent here
