Great Neil Sedaka Beach Boys homage. From one of the most underrated artist we’ve had. Every time I come across this track I find myself listening to it at least 4 or 5 times.
I could listen to Roy Wood all day. He's the most underrated artist of all time, he could play almost every musical instrument. His music doesn't sound any different now to what it did in the 70's ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@joesophie90 I've always loved Roy Wood but he should be knighted for everything that he's done for the music industry. He should definitely be knighted while he's still alive. He and Jeff Lynn put the Midlands on the map with their music inspiring others. I was still in school when Flowers In The Rain was the 1st record played on Radio 1, Tony Blackburn was the DJ
I've got the 45 (single on the Harvest record label) where Wood thanks Neil Sedaka and Brian Wilson for their influence...a delightful single...and I can't ever remember seeing this before !
Roy's catchy and meticulous tribute to the Beach Boys and a rare sighting of his hipster look, just before he went doolally with the stage make-up! The audience often looked a bit glum in early '70s TOTPs. Not this lot, though! You go, girls!
Ummm,Roy had already gone doolally a year before in 1972 with the dyed hair and face paint, with Wizzard - you do know that in 1973 he was releasing solo stuff like this, alongside his Wizzard releases. I do prefer this look of Roy's and Ricks.
I was lucky enough to see him at the Marquee club in Wardour street back in 1982. It was definitely one of the best gigs that year. He did loads of the old songs from the Move and Wizzard - then because it was December, He finished the set with "I wish it could be Christmas every Day" Awesome Guy!
Am I the only one who thinks Rick Price was always looking funny and really motivated and enjoying the show and he was a really good background player for the shows with Roy?🤔😂😉🤩🥳
Well it’s a pastiche of early sixties records (Beach Boys, Sedaka, Carol King) and Roy uses lots of the production techniques from those days. He sings the first few lines with a ‘dry’ vocal mic and then the following lines are using more reverb, delay and double tracked vocals as per some early sixties records (e.g. It Might As Well Rain Until September).
@@keyboardpaulh9540 Thanks for the explanation. I hadn't heard this track before and was a little shocked at how different his vocals were from the Roy Wood I thought I knew. He also looked so much younger than I thought he was at this time. It's a catchy little number.
Here’s a RoyWood song that DEFINITELY sounds like a homage to the BeachBoys.. (called ‘Why Does Such A Pretty Girl Sing Those Sad Songs’ ): 🎶😎💕 ruclips.net/video/l9To94tvjrA/видео.html

Old rockers tend to be pretty right wing, even Neil Young was a Reagan supporter at one point. They've seen how much Labour screw the country each time they get in power, look at Starliner.
Roy is such a great song writer and singer but he treats fans so terribly. His ego is out of control! Sorry Roy. I love your music but not you! Same as Van Morrison.
If I could meet and chat with any star from the 70's it would be Roy Wood. I've always liked every group he's been in.
He is far-right arsehole.
Great Neil Sedaka Beach Boys homage. From one of the most underrated artist we’ve had. Every time I come across this track I find myself listening to it at least 4 or 5 times.
You should listen to Eddy and the Falcons 'Roy Wood' and the song you got me running
I'd forgotten just how good Roy Wood was back in the day.. Very catchy tunes 👌
Roy's hair style and hair color look really good here! It's a a real natural look for him.

I thought he could play *any* instrument and he can't read music - he plays by ear

@@sandraharding2624 Wizzard was my favourite group, when I was a kid - I absolutely loved them!
@joesophie90 So did I and I still love to this day
First single I ever bought 50 years ago today (23/1/74)
I bought this single when it came out. I was 15. Mental song. Played it to death. I still love it today all these decades later!!
Jesus, 50 years ago!! Unbelievable!! Seems like only yesterday these tunes were being played 😮😊
A proper music legend
One of the greats.
First time seeing this performed. Pure class from Roy Wood. My favourite song by him or The Move and Wizzard.

Not only to the beach Boys, but in the second verse, he turns into Neil Sedaka and continues to ping-pong between the styles for the rest of the song.
loved this song in 1973 when i was 13 still loving it in 2024 at 64
Love nearly all songs from Roy!!!!!! Absolute great and amazing!!!!!!
I was lucky enough to see him at the Marquee club in Wardour street back in 1982. It was definitely one of the best gigs that year. He did loads of the old songs from the Move and Wizzard - then because it was December, He finished the set with "I wish it could be Christmas every Day" Awesome Guy!
Takes me back Great time's 😊
12.51 always gives lots of little added bits in his songs always lifts my spirits love it x

Rick Price had charm and was a brilliant musician he was also in the band Wizard and later with The Electric Light Orchestra.
One of the UK's finest Pop stars 🎵🌠
I'm glad I saw you in person you are gorgious Helen xxx
Happy Days! Great memories. 🙃😊
Wow. He looks lovely there. Nice little song too xx❤
Looking a bit like Dennis from Dr hook
I'm digging the "clean, no logo, HD" ethos. Well done sir.
Love this song! Thanks so much! I can't believe I got my favorite video in HD! I must say Roy is phenomenal with his lip syncing
! 💙🎵 💚
Roy Wood 👍
Thanks for uploading, i love the HD.
Beautiful Roy Wood lo e him
Aina kuuntelen❤
Great sixties feel to that one......

R.I.P. Rick Price.

Love you Roy
R I P Pricey thanks Rick
I'd never put the hurt on you Roy.. .. 😘
Like me all grandparents now 😂😁
cool as !!!
Those bobby pins making his hair just the right length
First time i seen him with no paint on his face😮
And he sure was cute underneath that paint❣️❣️
Rick Price sadly missed, rip
Looking like Leon Russell ❤.
Roy looked so much better in this than in his Wizzard guise...
Omg Roy wood looks so gorgeous.
daje suba fajne
That modded jazz bass can be seen being played by Rick with Wizzard, the Move and even early ELO. Would love to know what happened to it
Great times.....I wonder what those girls in the front are doing now, all those years later...probably kids and grandkids! Anyone know??
Roy always be the father of ELO
Yeah, no Roy Wood no ELO..
Let's have an autobiography Woody
Roy seen here with the sadly missed Rick Price who went on to team up with Roy in Wizzard
Roy sans makeup or hair color post Move is rare
Phil Spector meets Carl Wilson Beach Boys
Excellent, but can someone explain why his voice sounds different as he sings the first lines than it sounds in the balance of the song?

It's called a chord change
@@7henke7 No, not the cord change. Don't you hear the change in the vocals at the 0:30 mark? It's mostly reverb.
Are these videos available in physical media (Blu-ray)? Thanks.
There's been no official release of the TOTPs clips as far as I know.
Sounds a lot like Carl Wilson here.
I don't know why some comments mention the Beach Boys if this has nothing to do with Sunflower's Forever (1970)
(Or at least I think so)

This indeed sounds similar to the boys
Sounds like something from the Sunflower or Surf's Up era
What's going on with Roy's bass guitar pick ups?
🦸🦹💯
Boulders.
Roy and Rick Price swapped instruments!
What's even funnier is that Rick Price is strumming a Fender 6-string bass like a guitar, like Roy Wood in the Fire Brigade performance in TOTP.
Whos the other guy.
It's the late, great Rick Price, who was a member of The Move and Wizzard alongside Roy.

and also the little vocal bit in 'oh what a shame' 👌
Thanks for that tip. It even has the B. Boys' organ sound!
Is that Lemmy up there?
Also thanks Roy uks own Phil Spector
pity its a mime
shame they have to mime.

Kiddie music.

I’ve never heard this before. Any stories?
WHAT!
He looks more like the "transgender Roy Wood" in THIS video.
