    We installed our soft start 3 years ago thanks to David of Fate Unbound. It's awesome not lugging our 3500 watt inverter generator, but using the 2100. It really is a game changer.

    When I replaced my air conditioner, Coleman had a soft start option so I got that as well, and it has worked very well. I have a 13,500 BTU Mach 3, and I see about 13A starting, and 11A steady state current. You could easily have two of these on a 30A circuit. Two 15,000 BTU air conditioners might be iffy, you would have to start one and make sure it was running OK, then start the second. If both compressors kicked on simultaneously (17A each * 2 = 34A) it would probably trip the circuit breaker.

    That is a true game changer for anyone using a man A/C unit on a lower amped circuit. Reeeeally glad you touched on the fact that this isn’t a magic wand and that one should still understand how much they are drawing on a circuit.

    You two are just too fun! Since our class b is older the roof and sides are rounded. Because of this it's tough to do anything on the roof and the ac could use some tlc. I'm pretty handy but Paul makes it look so easy. You could easily pick up side jobs doing rv and bike repairs with a line of people waiting their turn.

    I own a 28' travel trailer with a single 13,500 A/C that will run on 30 amp service. State Parks in Fl. are in the process of charging $7.00 per day electric charge due to high electric costs. I have been charged $11.00 a day at a COE park. I do not have 2 or 3 A/C units or washer/dryers or an electric fireplace. The big rigs require much more electric capacity than trailers my size, so why not make it mandatory that RV manufacturers must provide soft start for more than a single A/C unit, or, if you require 50 amp, pay a premium.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  3 года назад

      I know lots of parks do charge more for 50 amp service. I am sure soft start would love to be installed in the manufacturing process. They may even have something like that in the works!

    It is important to understand that there is a much bigger difference then what you are explaining between 30 and 50 amp. The 30 amp is at 120 volts. The 50 amp is at either 240 volts or TWO 120 volt legs. This means in a camper plugged into 50 amp and wired for 120 volts you could conceivably pull a total of 100 amps (Two 50 amp 120 volt legs). So the actual available amperage is 70 amps more when plugged into a 50 amp outlet. This is why the breaker is a double 50 amp breaker. It would only be 50 amps at 240 volts but could also be two 50 amp legs of 120 volts.

      Yes! As long as you're comfortable with stripping and connecting wires, you will be just fine. The first step will be to take off the air conditioner cover and find the exact model of your AC. For ours, the ID plate was on the side panel that we had to unscrew. Then on soft starts website you will find specific instructions. Let us know how it goes!

How long should it take for the AC unit in the main living area to cool down the rig when it's about a 95 outside/ inside? Loved the video as well as the relationship you both have together. On separate topic what is your opinion on the Alliance Paradigm 310RL? We are looking at one for our second and last trailer. Thoughts? Keep up the great information.

      Hi Steven, around the time we bought our Solitude 310GK we reached out to Alliance and NEVER got a call back, which fits what we've heard since, that they have poor customer service. Keep in mind that any trailer you'll get is going to have problems - sad but true - and you're going to want a company who is responsive to their customers.
      Just food for thought, good luck with whatever you decide and thanks for watching! P.

    I have 2 13500 dometic with soft starts. What size generator should I buy

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  Год назад

      Surprisingly, it depends on the generator. We've found the Predators not to be as robust as the Hondas. They actually can overheat and shut off. I would do the research as we are hesitant to give you a gen size and then be wrong.

    What do you do when you have a 30amp camper?

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  2 года назад

      Your 30amp will have just one A/C I am guessing. With that a soft start will allow you to run it just using a heavy duty electrical cord. This could be handy when parked in a driveway. Of course, you will not be able to also run your microwave or your electric hot water. Just be sure to buy the heavy duty power cord.

    • @shawnmatthews5118
      @shawnmatthews5118 2 года назад

      No, it has two of them, but I can only run one at a time. I’m looking for a way around that.

    • @shawnmatthews5118

      I am thinking of rerouting a second line that will operate independently of my 30amp system I can run an appliance grade extension cord out to the pedestal and plug into the 50 amp with a 30 amp adapter.

    So it converts 30 amp to 50 amp??

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  3 месяца назад

      It smooths out the initial draw on the AC, so that one AC will work on 20 amp and two will work on 30 amp. Test it, your mileage may vary.

    My Jayco Class C 2019 came with two ACs and is just 30amp. I've been wondering if the SoftStart would let me run one of my ACs on solar? Nice to know it is easy to install.

    I have an older Class A (1993) that has 2 AC's and 30 AMP service. It has an Onan Marquis 7000 Generator. There is a switch in the cabinet behind the driver which allows me to select the rear AC or the Front AC when hooked up to shore power. With the generator, it doesn't matter as it will run both simultaneously regardless of the position of the switch due to a dedicated 20A breaker on the generator. So, how can I run both AC's at a park, if I can only switch between the front or back? I guess this system isn't designed for my configuration.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  3 года назад +1

      Hi David, I'm not sure if there's a workaround for your shore power set-up or not. I would suggest calling Soft Start's help desk and asking them as I suspect you're not the first person with that set-up.
