Pro Tip: When you buy your ground beef and portion it, flatten it in the bag. Not only is it easier to stack in your freezer, but because of the greater surface area it defrosts far more quickly.

I can't tell you how many times I wanted to make dinner after work and the ground beef was in the freezer. This is a great idea. Thank you

Karen, this worked fabulously! I freeze my ground beef in half pound packages and following your instructions, I didn't have any Frozen parts to the meat. I was able to chop them apart with a wooden spoon and saute the one pound EASILY! Thank you so much for this great tip and video! I tell other instapot owners about you regularly. 😁

I saw another video that suggested longer time - I went with that because I didn't want the rest of the meat super browned and a big chunk of frozen meat in the center. Thank you for the video.

Dinner was a hit! Not only did our regular ground beef come out amazingly moist and tender, we will have no problems digesting it, which is the reason for me rarely eating it. My husband really enjoyed himself too and could not stop commenting about, how pillow soft the meat tasted. You're awesome!

I freeze my ground meats by flattening them. And stacking them. Saves space also there's no big frozen chunk rolling around the pan. It's a great method

I’m so happy to learn this! I have a bad habit of thawing meat in fridge and it going bad before I cook it. I live in pain so a flare will put me off cooking for days. Not good for thawed meat!

Very helpful video! Would recommend hand hygiene after touching raw meat though, before you contaminate the outside of your instant pot and anything else you might touch. What is that tool you used to break up the meat? It looks great!

If I need crumbled ground beef and it’s frozen, I just put it in the frying pan (I guess putting it in IP on sauté would work as well) and scrape the browned meat as it cooks from the frozen chunk until it is all brown and crumbled. Your method would be better if you were going to need the meat whole to shape into patties or HB steaks. Great video! Thanks for the tip. 😊

As a Microwave heats from the inside to out and Heat Based heats from the outside to i, perhaps a combination of the two woulf be an interesting experiment? Whichever way there is boung to be SOME cooking taking place, that is the way of things.

When you put the ground beef in the instant pot to defrost it looks like it is in a plastic bag, is that correct?

No - take it out - and remove any paper.

5-6 minutes for 1 lb. of ground beef then it's ready to break apart.

I feel like unless the meat is cooked completely when you are done that the microwave would be quicker. You can defrost a pound of hamburger in 10 min.

It depends - just a pound of extra lean ground beef or a pound of ground turkey combined with 1.5 cups of water doesn’t generate much fat.

Well, I tried this just now with 1lbs of frozen hamburger and followed the directions exactly as outlined in the video. We now have an incredibly overcooked chunk of meat that is closer to a shoe than hamburger. Waste.
