62 years old and just now learning to cook. Getting one of those cooking pots today. Thank you.
I’m so glad to find this instant pot method! Game changer!
When my kids were young, I used to make hamburger gravel. I would flash freeze the ground cooked ground beef on a cookie sheet and then break it up and seal it in a gallon freezer bag. We would take out what we needed, reseal the bag and put the rest in back for next time.
That’s a good idea!
I'm a bachelor and I need help cooking. Thank you for posting this!
So glad to know that I’m not alone in hating the smell of ground beef cooking!
😄 we’re in this together!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I always buy the 10lb rolls of Ground chuck 93/7 and I used to cook it in batches. Lol. 😅 I saw your video, and tonight, it all went into the instant pot with fresh onions and garlic to eliminate another step for me later on 😂. This was so very helpful! I appreciate it 🙏! ❤
Awesome! I’m glad you found it helpful!
So helpful! Thanks for sharing.
Great video, Kim. Thank you. This gave me a couple of good ideas on how I can improve my food prep . . . not just for me, but for my dogs as well!
I’m glad you found it helpful!
Brilliant. No fuss, no mess cooking ground beef to can. I'm thinking by using a fat separator with the liquid, you could have some beef "broth" left over to can. I'll try and see if that's true. Thanks for this great idea.
This is fantastic, I am definitely going to use this method now! Thank you or all the detailed advice you put into this (e.g. about leaving a gap for the float valve and how to get the plastic off without too much struggle)
I’m so glad you found it helpful!
I personally LOVE the smell of ground beef cooking. One of the best smells!
I’m glad you enjoy it! 😃
Brilliant! I didnt know I needed this process, but what a time saver! I can a lot of ground beef, but always brown it/cook it first. Thank you sooo much!
God bless!🙏
I’m so glad you found it helpful, Sandi! I’d love to know more about why you can meat. Is it to save space in your freezer, or emergency preparedness? It’s something I’ve never thought about doing.
Some of both. I "winter can" meats, etc to reduce my power outage anxiety, but also to have longer term storage that's quicker to put to use. I buy on sale, such as it is these days, freeze it & then can it when I have time. Thanks again for the instant pot idea! Take care! 🙏
holy moly - I did not expect the entire 10lb chub to fit O_O
You are the meal prep Queen ✨
This is a wonderful idea. Clever way to cook without fuss.
What a great tip! I just took out 8 lbs of ground venison to make jerky, canned about 30 lbs & still have more. This is last years deer & Mr is out hunting now 🦌🦌🦌🦌 This will give it a longer life versus sitting in my freezer uncooked and forgotten! Having it ready for meals will be an incentive for me for sure.
It definitely makes meal prep faster! Hope your husband brings home another one for you!
Thanks for your video! Just a tip for you, too; After touching raw meat, please wash your hands before touching other things. I also noticed you put your arm/elbow on the counter right where you cut the meat. 😢
Thanks for your input, Patricia, I hope you found the video helpful!
Such a good idea, thanks, Kim. This would have e been so good for me during seeding. Harvest is coming.
Thanks, Helen. Yes, this would be really helpful during harvest! I'm curious what your go-to meals would be with it.
I make ground beef/veal/ pork cabbage rolls. I pre cook my onions and parboil my rice to add to the cooked meat before making the cabbage rolls.
Yum! I love cabbage rolls but have never made them myself.
Muy inteligente, muchas gracias
I save that broth to use in soups.
My mind is blown. Here I am thinking that I was being clever buying in bulk but freezing raw ground beef. This just makes more sense.
You *were* being clever, but this is next level 😄
I use my instant pot to put together food for my dog, he’s loved to switch. But my family hates the smell. Weather probably isn’t always conducive in your area, but I plug my instant pot outside.. no more crying once the cook releases. Perhaps one might use the garage in inclimate weather
Yes, I have taken my pot outside to avoid smells in the house, even in the dead of winter! 😄
thanks, keep it up!
This is genius
Love it!

If you have dogs, cats or any other pet that eats meat you can give them the liquid from the hamburger. With or without the fat depending on their dietary needs.
That's a great suggestion! We don't have pets, but very helpful advice for those who do!
WOW 🤯 This is a true game changer! My only wish is that it was available in print form. Otherwise, 👍👍👍👍👍😁
Thanks Roberta! Glad you found it helpful!
1) Buy 10 pounds of beef in a tube
2) Cram it all into pressure cooker with some water
3) Apply heat
There you are, wish granted
Very nice method 😊
Hamburger Bean Casserole.
I use it for taco salads/tacos, spaghetti meat sauce, and hamburger helper occasionally. Sometimes to make American goulash.
American goulash, I’ve never heard of that before! I just looked it up and it definitely looks like something my family would enjoy. Thank you for the suggestion!
Nice!
If you put the bag in a firm container the bag won’t collapse as you’re filling it.
I use a rolling ppin to flatten the zip-loc's
Oooh now i just need an insta pot hey? I do freeze cooked meat but wow that appliance would work great for saving time!
We eat tacos or cheeseburger soup or chili. Add some lentils to chili and u can use less meat! 😅
Ha, well I wouldn't say you *need* one, but it does come in handy sometimes! Cheeseburger Soup is a hit around here too. Lentils to use less meat is a great tip! Because of digestive issues we can't do that, but that's a great tip for others!
Ohhhh... cheeseburger soup? That sounds delish! I hope that your recipe is here on RUclips.🤔
@@robertamavendooglefraggler9463 not yet but I should film it at some point!

A weekly occurance at our house!
Where's the beef?! Your house 😀
To come to pressure the temperature the temperature is hotter than boiling. 212° That's why it cooks so fastt....

The link is in the description 🙂
Is it possible to use the ground beef juices as a stock?
Yes, that's totally possible! I'd strain it, then let it cool and skim the fat off before using. We don't make a lot of soup otherwise I would hang on to mine but it would pile up too quickly if I saved it.
How much of that liquid that you pour off is fat? I would have like to see that chilled so I could see that fat to water/broth ratio. Also, no salt?
Sorry, I don’t usually use the liquid, so I don’t have a fat/broth ratio for you. Regarding salt, I season the meat later when I use it for meals.
How do you keep it from giving the "food burn" sign? I get that almost every time.
I haven’t had that issue, my meat just browns where it touches the bottom of the pot. But if you’re getting that error on your machine I’d try reducing the amount of meat so it’s not such a tight fit, and having something elevate the meat from the bottom of the pot- some balls of aluminum foil under the meat might help?
What size InstaPot did you use? It looks bigger than mine, I have the 6 qt. Also what fat content did you use on the ground beef?
Those are great questions I should have thought to address, thank you for asking! I just have a 6 quart Instant Pot, and the beef is lean ground beef (In Canada our beef is just classified Regular, Lean, and Extra Lean. Google tells me lean equates to 17% fat content).
Thank you so much!

How do you get rid of excess grease?
Do you mean how do I dispose of it? If I don’t skim the fat and use the broth, then I just freeze it all in a yogurt container and throw it in my garbage on garbage day.
What size instant pot are you using?
It’s a 6 quart, there’s a link in the description 🙂
My big problem with cooking with ground beef is losing all that good fat that you are throwing away. Since you have to use water in the instant pot, your grease is mixed with water after cooking. I want the grease, and don't want it watered down. Any suggestions?
When I cook a smaller amount (~4lb) in the instant pot, I don’t even add water! The fat in the beef is enough liquid to cause the pot to seal without me getting a burn error. You could try that!
You can also take the liquids the. Out in your fridge. When it’s cooled down, the fat/grease should solidify on the top and be separate from the water. I do this when making tallow.
Did you use a trivet?
No, just directly into the pot.
Beef talow
Tostada’s
Do you have a 6 or 8 quart pot?
It’s just a 6 quart!
Cook high or low?
Cook at high pressure.
Thanks so much! Cooking now! @@kimbitner
What would the cook time be for cooking half a roll at once?
In the past I’ve done 5lbs for 25 minutes, with a natural pressure release.
@@kimbitner Thank you! Will be a big help. I like doing freezer meals in bulk, so I need some of it for meatloaf, the rest for all else LOL
What do you freeze your meatloaf in? I had a bad experience once, froze it in a metal pan and when I cooked it the meatloaf tasted like metal. It was awful, totally inedible! Any tips?
@@kimbitner I have several versions. But the simplest is just egg, bread crumbs and BBQ sauce. A decent amount adds lots of flavors and keeps it moist. I don't usually freeze meatloaf that has any veggies in it like peppers or onion cause those taste funny to me after being frozen. But the BBQ ones turn out just fine :)
TOTALLY misread the question LOL I freeze it in these ancient corningware loaf dishes

😄
Such an excellent idea. Ground beef smell is horrible.
It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who thinks so 😄
That 10# tube is nasty food. A butcher told me to never buy it, it comes from Chy-na
I can’t comment to the quality of the beef where you are, but I’m in Canada and our standards are strict. This is 100% Canadian beef.
Never knew I could do this! Thank you!!!!
I hate the smell of beef cooking either any beef.
Glad I’m not the only one! It’s a struggle!
