Roth may just as well have been playing poker, with all his cards lying face up!! Outsmarted, outmaneuvered and outgunned at every turn. Even the badly botched hit at Michael's home was a sign of gross incompetence on Roths part. Relying on an open window and perfect timing from long distance. From that point on, Roth was the sheep 🐑. Micheal the wolf 🐺. Michael Corleone was the most powerful character ever portrayed on film. Al Pacino's brilliant performance lays bare one glaring fact. No one is more cunning and ruthless than Don Michael Corleone. And woe to all those who oppose him.

But at the same time, Roth destroyed Michael by destroying his marriage with Kay with that assassination attempt in his house, Fredo betrayed his own brother Michael because of jealousy in which Michael had his own brother killed in which Michael regretted in Part III and in Part III his daughter was killed. So Michael won but Roth severely damaged him.

Forealz. Kay is insufferable annoying whiny hypocrite. If Appolonia didn't die she would have made a great wife gun moll advisor. She knew what Michael was & supported & truly loved him. An she understood the Sicilian mob culture.
An I always believed Appolonia was his one true love. With Kay it was a build up love of comfort. Appolonia was love at first sight. The way they both looked at each other when they first met.

Roth played this well. He went to a meeting that day, celebrated his 67th birthday, told Michael off about what he saw, then all of a sudden, he’s dying and needs to be put on oxygen and beforehand tells Michael the story about Moe Greene. Afterwards, he played the game well. Told Fredo to dispatch some military personnel to kill Michael’s bodyguard at the right time when he tries to kill a supposedly frail Roth on oxygen. Then Roth flees, Cuba’s being taken over, Michael has to testify at committee meetings engineered by Roth. Michael wins, but Roth is still free, smug, and thinks he’s won. But Michael dispatches Rocco. The rest is history!
