  • I expected to go to London often. This marks 4X in a month. I think I might start looking for a part time job over there ha. Still getting used to the 777. I will have a wrap up at the end of the month but I think I am on track to make what I would have made if I were an Airbus Captain but I will be working much less.

    There could be worse places than London. Luckily there’s tons to do. I fly in about twice a month as a passenger and it’s once you scratch the surface there’s a lot to enjoy for me anyway. Next time you’re in London if you want to get away from the tourists:
    - On weekdays at lunch time Leather Lane near Farringdon has about 30 food stalls. Brick lane for food on weekends.
    - If you want to eat somewhere nice at 4AM on a Tuesday a place called “Duck and waffle” was open 24/7 when I lived in London pre covid
    Brixton is nice on the weekend.
    Windsor is sort of near Heathrow and has some sightseeing
    Hottest hot wings of my life excluding McGibbins in Montreal was in Red Dog Saloon London. Bodeans chain is hit and miss but do decent Kansas BBQ.
    If you want to get a fancy snacky gift for your wife check out Fortnum and Mason (I think they are also in the airport too).

    Another great Blog, thank you. I am from Uk but now live near Boston. I don’t like the Boston / LHR routes as it’s to short and with it being overnight you might get to doze off to sleep,if your lucky and then your woken up to land in LHR. I am a “ Kirkland Airways “ exec platinum and often fly Boston to LAX, very often takes around the same time as Boston , LHR but not so hard on your body. It amazes me that your 777 that you flew to London in very likely sat as it does every day for 9 hours doing nothing. Sometimes especially in the summer the aircraft would fly LHR, BOSTON, MIami
    Another one would fly Miami , Boston, LHR. Much more fee time use of aircraft .
    Suggestion , go visit Greenwich to see where GMT is. Thanks again

    First, I may have already asked this question, how does it work when /if you promote to Captain, do you go straight to 777 since that’s what your a first officer on, or wherever they need new captains, or how does it work

    • @geekontheflightdeck
      @geekontheflightdeck  28 дней назад +1

      I’ll have a video explaining this soon but at most US Airlines you can go to Captain on any fleet that your seniority can hold.

  • @DarrenMcQuaidKKFS
    @DarrenMcQuaidKKFS 27 дней назад

    Is it difficult to switch bases at your point in time or does it become easier the more senior you become? (essentially becoming a commuter pilot as you mentioned)

    • @geekontheflightdeck
      @geekontheflightdeck  27 дней назад +1

      Varies by airline. Here it can be easy through the union or company. Say you are based in Miami on a 737 but want LAX 737. If another pilot in LAX 737 also wants Miami it can be done through the union where you just swap. You don’t have to know each other just both need to be willing.
