777 Pilot VLOG - Paid Hawaiian vacation!
Просмотров 11 тыс.21 час назад
I thought for sure this trip would go senior to me. This was a nice change of pace from my European trips. Being paid to deadhead in First Class then just fly one leg back home is super easy. I spent about 5 hours on the flight deck total but paid for almost 16 hours. I'll take the easy days as there will of course be tough days.
A Discussion with a Scientist...married to a pilot

Without my wife I would not be where I am today. She is the one that pushed me to be a pilot. We sat down and discussed how we started and random aspects of our life being a pilot family. 2:20 What I used to do 3:00 When we started this journey did you have any prior knowledge? 3:21 What has been the most rewarding part of being an aviation family? 4:14 What has been the most negative aspect of...
777 Pilot Month in Review. 77 Hours, $43k and 5 nights in hotels
Просмотров 12 тыс.14 дней назад
December was easier than I thought it would be. Living in base and having a great wife meant I could easily pick up extra trips. This is by far the most I've ever earned in a single month and I am very grateful for the job I get to do. January should be interesting as well.
Where in the world did I spend Christmas?
Просмотров 9 тыс.21 день назад
I could have just stayed home....or I could go fly a plane and make a enough money to take my family on another awesome vacation. I chose the later. I don't emphasize money on my channel often for a reason....as I never want to appear to be sensationalizing or bragging. This career is life and generational wealth altering. This is just one example.
777-200 DFW to Korea and back...my longest flight ever
Просмотров 98 тыс.21 день назад
Incheon has been on my list for a while. It is a very senior trip as it is very efficient. This trip came to me as a short call reserve assignment. The concept of waking up and having no idea where in the world I will go to sleep is still not lost on me. While I enjoyed the trip...it was incredibly long. I look forward to going back next month to visit Costco. 5:50 Flight to Korea 6:52 Arrival ...
Working Christmas....it's just a day

Part of working in the travel industry means you will work a holiday every now and then especially when you are on the bottom of the seniority list for your status. Things changed recently when my airline started offering incentive pay to work certain busy travel days and now senior pilots are opting to work on holidays to get that extra money.
6 Days, 4 Ocean Crossing and a whole lot of drama. 777 Pilot VLOG
Просмотров 14 тыс.28 дней назад
This 6 day stretch was a rough one. So many issues. Not complaining but rather discussing that not everyday is rainbows and unicorns. Sorry for the giant blurring I had to do. I need to make it a point to put my ID in my pocket while filming. Though it is not hard to figure out my employer, there are reasons why I don't openly show/state they name/brand. 00:27 Headed to LHR 8:07 LHR debrief 15:...

I don’t know if there would be much interest in the topic of tax …. how taxes work for a high income earner…. Things that most people that earn less than $168k don’t see. For example by June (for me anyway)’ someone who makes over $168k gets a “pay bump” because they’ve reached their social security tax limit and social security tax no longer gets withheld from their pay. Over 200/250k you’re now subject to the 0.9% additional Medicare tax. Over 250k your investments are subject to the 3.8% NIIT. Again it’s very personal to everyone specific situation and how much income the spouse makes or being single changes things., but high income earners face a different situation than people who don’t. Whether to make traditional 401k or Roth 401k contributions, etc…
Hi Darren, on your way to ICN, I noticed a right heading near Hokkaido and then a circled route to get to the sea of Japan. Curious why this routing? Looks like it happens every now and then this month. Thanks. Like your video!
Hi… Maybe I didn’t word my question correctly what I was trying to say is that United allows you to listen to the ATC communications as a passenger I was wondering why American airlines does not allow that
You would have to ask American Airlines that question
@ Thank you I thought maybe it had something to do with the pilots as yourself not wanting that
I can never answer airline specific questions as I can never appear to be a spokesperson
This is inspiring in regard to building wealth for your family. I’m in the process of doing a career pivot. I am projected to start this fall. I am beyond excited about my career decision.
Capt is #2 in base or #2 company wide?
Company wide
Another great video featuring THE PIMP WAGON DELUXE!!!!!!!! Always look forward to Thursdays when I get a notification that you've posted.
Darren, I love your videos. I'm not a pilot, just a sim enthusiast, and hopefully someday I will start flying lessons.
Thank you. Take a discovery flight some day
I really love the evolution and growth of your channel. Just wholesome good informative helpful content. I also love that your viewership and subscribers are growing too.
Thank you. The only problem I see going forward is being able to respond to every comment and question.
Thanks for the info Capo! CPL and A+P here. I really needed that push to keep on the path! "Generational Changing career path" - that one hit home.
Haha! I know you hate it, but I love the fact that you're flying so much to Buenos Aires. Let me know if you're getting bored there and would care for advice on what to do on an overnight 🔵⬜🔵
The Other Dallas Airline!😂😂😂 ❤️💙💛
I have seen some of the cleanest kitchens, freshest ingredient homemade American food classics in S. Korea. Too bad they don't deliver to America.
Why in the world do airlines not allow beards. One reason for me to do executive
Can you slow down a bit when you talk. You speak so fast in airline jargon that as a non industry person I have a hard time following 😊
Question. Is English your first language? I do the best I can. I have a speech impediment.
@ sadly it is not. Lol. I enjoy your channel
I'm not a pilot and feel it's too late for me to start, but I love watching your channel. You're one of the few who comes across as genuine and authentic, which is refreshing nowadays.
#2 was on this flight, as you noted it is packed with hours over 3 days. I know it is personal preference, but what's Ideal? LAX flying to SYD 3 times a month? This flight?
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Some love 3 3 day trips with 28 hours others prefer shorter flights
Love your site. Keep up the good work. Your talks are inspiring. Thank you.
Going to Hanoi via Narita from DFW in February, maybe see you on it!
Thank you so much for this video
The famous word riddle t-shirt 🤣
What does a hand flown pattern in a Triple 7 look like?
9am, lying in the crew hotel in Dallas trying to rest before a 17 hour flight home… keep an eye out every time I pass through the terminal to see if you’re in the arrivals hall etc 😂
Thx for the video Darren, as always! Is there a contingency plan in the unlikely event that the Korean controllers don’t get to you before you bust NK airspace?
Thank you. Turn to an area with the least traffic which would have been towards the approach for 15R.
Wish I could see these live - but living in Rome makes it difficult time wise. Really appreciate and enjoy your posts. Thanks for making them.
I think I’ll try one on a European overnight one day
Morning!
Looks like you stay right across from the Songdo Central Park. Will be a really nice spot to see the Cherry Blossoms in spring if you manage to get another ICN flight at that time. Thanks for sharing your trips with us all. Great to see you got the mushroom soup this time.
have yuou used the live translate feature on your meta glasses yet?
No. Mostly just video and photo and I use them as headphones
@@geekontheflightdeck you should try it out. they have limited languages as of now but its a great feature!
Great analysis Showtime!
Correct, the Pepsi does have lime in Korea. Next time you fly to Incheon, there is a big shopping mall behind your hotel, about a 20 minute walk away. You can grab a taxi and tell the driver you want to go to Hyundai Premium Outlets, where you will find the interconnected shopping malls. Plenty of food to choose from there. Great video!
Thank you very much for this!
Hey Darren! Was this part of your January line or from December?
Nope. This was a line trip for January I traded in to
Being weight restricted did the non revs make it on your flight to Korea?
My first trip Nonrevs didn’t get on. This trip they did but only to max seating capacity. Many were left behind. Leaving DFW the restrictions are harder to deal with as we need the fuel due to winds.
How often do you do the Korea trips? I see the Dallas to Korea/ Japan flights just about every day when it’s sunny in my area a few hours west of Seattle.
I’ve only done 2. They go very senior. I can only pick them up if they are in open time.
It’s weird not seeing you on a London trip.
Korea trips looks awesome! Thanks for the vid :)
Lol I wasn't expecting that
The mental image of that tesla in the courthouse parking garage… lol, I love it
for most of us down here, that salary is astronomical. wow.
You are amazing Sir! Your videos do more than inspire me. They move me into action. ✈️
You pronounce Lotte “loht-te”. Teo syllables :)
That’s the pimp mobile you’re in.
Good looking family :). Great episode, thank you. 71F in Key West.
Thanks for the video, great as always. For the CA to reach #2, would that be close to 30yrs?
More than that.. closer to 40. He’s from a different generation.
Wow! That’s incredible
The seniority numbers you posted are very interesting. Is that based on flight hours alone or a mixture of flight hours, time with the company, etc? I guess it's easier to somewhat size a pilot up by the seniority number than to ask how many flight hours, etc., that one has.
It’s purely based on date of hire. That’s it. Even then a pilot could be hired. Take a leave of absence and come back 10 years later being service but low hours.
What is the alternate airport when you fly in to icn??
Depends on the weather
You may need to make Korea a regular trip for churros.
Just had my commercial check ride with a DPE who just retired as a 777 captain with your company. Having watched your last Korea video, I asked him about his experiences leaving Incheon and dodging DPRK airspace 😂
I bet I know him if you’re in the DFW area. Last name Peterson? If so he did my very first OE on the 777.
@ yes! It was B Peterson! I was curious during the ride if he knew you but didn’t ask xD
And as always, thank YOU for an awesome report. 🙌🏼 greetings from Germany and you better don’t take the Frankfurt one yet its cooooold
Is that dogleg approach to 31L still done? I’d like to recreate it for the sim.
Not that I’ve seen. If you join the 35L localizer you can break off and turn left to land 31L fairly smoothly
I really enjoy your content Darren! Would love to host you on my flight schools (Flex Air) “View From the Flight Deck” webinar and speak to our students about your journey!
Great video. I’m definitely sitting on the left side window seat to see NK airspace when landing at ICN. Pick up another trip I’m flying there in 10 days. Get that London money though.
