    What a great month, I am 39 and almost want to quit my IT to become a pilot but am sure not a good idea at this age

    • @geekontheflightdeck
      @geekontheflightdeck  18 дней назад +6

      I started at 29. Even at 39 with average timelines you can be at an airline by 44. Captain by 48 and still have 17 years left to go to mainline and make Captain again by 56. These are very conservative estimates.

      I do. My current fun car is a Model X Plaid. No one needs 1020 HP…but it’s fun. Most of the splurging is awesome vacations for the family though.

    Absolutely amazing insight with a very open attitude to your wonderful career. Thank you. My 15 year old son wants to be a pilot here in the uk. Your salary now is amazing but how do the new young pilots afford £100,000 to start their careers?? Training is so expensive and then your first salary job is £30,000.
    How did you afford to fly? Please. Stay safe and you need to get flying to the southern hemisphere where it is warm weather!!

    • @auwz66
      @auwz66 16 дней назад

      There isnt really an easy way around it but some airlines like Ryanair offer training cost agreements. Your best bet is to start lookng at the likes of Atlantic Flight Training (they are in Ireland) or something similar. Costs are going to be high, c£120k. Its not a fast process either, expect it to take a number of years. University courses with associated flight training also a good route, slightly cheaper, but still nigh on £100k. The other option is the RAF, but expect the quality of candidates to be the tippy top of the crop. Best of luck, good news is you have a few years to budget!! Make sure he gets the right A levels btw.

      Thank you. Tips for IFR: Never memorize an approach plate, for non precision level off 10 feet or so high and add a pride nose up trim. Just a tad to fly down to MDA. This way if you get nervous at worst you will climb a tad instead of sink below minimums. Have fun

    How much did you take home after tax on the 43K

    • @geekontheflightdeck
      @geekontheflightdeck  15 дней назад +1

      Complicated due to our pay system. Even though I earned 43K in December, I was paid much less and will get made whole January 15th. I was paid an estimated amount for December which was much lower than what I actually earned.
