    Thank you! Great video. FYI The long line waiting for the Vatican Museum, where the Sestine chapel is located is due to a couple things. It takes a few hours to walk through the incredible museum before you even get to the chapel. Entry closes at 2pm because it takes the staff 4 hours to clear the visitors and make sure things are secure. I’ve been through it twice and can truly say it is well worth the morning wait. If you want to visit St. Peter’s, the wait is much much shorter.

    Maybe you went over this before, but im wondering... you are on reserve from home always...
    I've seen other pilot / flight attendant vlogs where they have to hang out at the airport to be called assigned a flight...
    Is that a totally different subject because i don't recall you ever were at the airport on call waiting to be assigned..
    Thanks... Ryan from Florida..

      Some airlines have Airport Ready reserve. The Flight Attendants at my airline have that. Pilots do not. Why? Good question.
      My previous airline had it for pilots and flight attendants. I did a full year of it when I was the bottom pilot.
      As far as the beach….I don’t care for natures toilet but thank you for the offer. Ha

    One more question. I always thought every flight ( I fly from TPA to Europe and vice versa) went up the east coast and through Halifax,Gander, southern Greenland, etc. One time when I came back from Frankfurt to Tampa the flight went straight across the Atlantic and the first land we saw was the east coast of Florida, Cape Canaveral area. I thought an airline had to be a certain distance from land in case of emergency. To summarize, I was surprised the pilot went straight across the Atlantic and not the northern route that every flight I've been on does. Do airlines do that route a lot?

    • @geekontheflightdeck
      @geekontheflightdeck  2 месяца назад

      Great question. Depends on the verification of the aircraft of its ETOPs rating. The Airbus 350 has the highest at 370 meaning over 6 hours from a suitable airport.

    Question: if you were getting rocked around in bad turbulence why were you not allowed to go any higher to avoid it? Thanks!

    • @geekontheflightdeck
      @geekontheflightdeck  2 месяца назад

      It was only moderate. Crossing the ocean we are in a non radar environment and assigned a speed and altitude to stay clear of other aircraft.
      There were aircraft above and below us within range to be an issue if we changed altitude. Most of us were down low to avoid the turbulence. Going much lower (in the 20s) would have consumed far too much fuel.
      Moderate turbulence is annoying but perfectly safe to fly in.

      I don’t comment on policy directly related to my employer.
      My understanding is two fully qualified pilots need to upfront or a new pilot and a check airman. A line pilot can’t fly with a pilot still getting trained which would happen on a 3 pilot crew

    • @stophavingaboringlife
      @stophavingaboringlife 2 месяца назад

      @@geekontheflightdeck gotcha. I'm working for Brussels Airlines but we don't have flights over 10 hours so we always fly with 2 flight crew but 3 for training flights.
      So, 3 pilots is the norm for the Rome run but if there's any training involved, a 4th one would be added.

We Belgium over a week. We drove west staying in small towns including Bruge then up to the Netherlands and Haarlem for 2 nights. I bet they will return with the XLR.
      Y’all fly 10 hours with 2 pilots? The FAA limits us to 9 with 2.

      Block time is what is scheduled gate to gate. That’s the least amount I’ll be paid even if I’m early. If we run over that time we get the extra. So a 10 hour block flight pays 10 hours. If we get there in 10 hours 6 minutes we get an extra 6 minutes. We get there in 9 hours 50 minutes we get 10 hours.
      We visited YYZ years ago when my older wanted to see a waterfall. Perks of the job. Canada side is better. I have overnighted in YYZ YYC and YUL multiple times. YUL is my favorite in the spring and summer. I recall an awesome mall downtown that was several stories in height.
