I think someone from corporate watched this: the Gordon 3.6 knife. Though it is still advertised at 3.6 inches on the site, the package has been changed to 2.6 in store.
@@bentaylor4570 From a standpoint of maximum cutting edge, it's bad, but adding on that extra amount makes it clear to customers that it possibly won't be legal in places with 3.5" blade limits instead of misleading customers into thinking that it is definitely legal.
All the Gordon knives seem like good buys. I bought two of the Gordon 8" survival "Rambo" knives a couple years ago. They were on sale for $5 somehow. Modded them by grinding/cutting out the saw part and adding JB weld to the handle to blade joint to strengthen. They work great for batoning on small logs or split wood for making kindling.
From a knife nerd’s point of view, those Gordon knives are made of cheap, crummy steel. But sometimes crummy steel is good enough, and if you’re batonning logs with it, edge retention is not going to be your primary concern. Besides, those $5 knives are better than no knife, which you can’t say about many $5 knives.

I have the original version of the Gordon knife. The blade was longer, it had a serrated edge for the 1/3 closest to the handle, and the texture of the handle was much rougher. Harbor freight often updates designs or changes manufacturers and keeps the same item name so that is most likely what happened here. There is a video a guy on here made about the differences in the two versions. I've been using this knife for a few years, best under $10 knife I've ever bought. Harbor freight often has a sale where they let you buy items under $10 at 30% off. Your list is perfect for that sale.
Hi. I picked up the Gordon pocket knife yesterday. Not bad! A little stiff and I would prefer the line lock to extend out a little more but for $10, its a keeper. I also picked up the two stop utility knife. Another keeper!
I have a decent collection of knives of various kinds and prices. The one I use most often is a bargain bin, under $10, might have been about $6. You can tell the build quality isn't the best (the grinds are visibly inconsistent), but it cuts great, has double studs and back flip (great for we lefties), opens smooth... Yeah, it is everything I need from a knife to sit on my desk and open letters. Which, as a desk bound worker, is what I use a knife for primarily.
I actually quite like that doyle ratcheting screwdriver. I have a klein version that is non ratcheting and am now thinking of upgrading to that one. The bit set is pretty standard from what ive seen in stubby multi-bit screwdrivers too.
Glad I saw the orange sliding knife so I know now I can get more at a harbor Freight. Thanks!! These are great for many light cutting chores around the house and home garage and can be operated one handed.
3 cr13 steel actually isn't that bad for a knife. Corrosion-resistant, fairly wear resistant, easy to sharpen, retains an edge, not prone to chipping, it's a budget steel but still pretty darn good. I actually bought that knife for an EDC merely for self-defense just because of the price. Out-of-the-box it was pretty darn Sharp but I still used my waterstones and took it up to ten thousand grit and stropped at 0.5 microns that's roughly 49000 grit. It was actually able to take an edge that fine and retain it without an issue. Actually one of the sharpest knives I carry 🤷. I wouldn't go using it for Bushcraft or anything like that but for a utility knife or self-defense this knife will take a scalpel like Edge. I bought one just to check it out but after seeing how well it took that edge and how well it has kept it, I was thoroughly impressed. Next time I go into harbor freight they're going to need to pull stock from the back cuz I'm going to take all they have on the rack. My favorite feature of that knife is the backflip. With a single flip of my index finger it's open and ready. Pretty decent little knife for $10 I actually got mine on sale for 6.99 🤷 I was actually really impressed with that little guy. The fire starters I agree I've also found them easier to light over the premium brands. I'm kind of a survivalist so I pick up cheap things like that whenever I can and pretty much every time I go into harbor freight I don't leave without one of those things I have like 20 of them 🤣. But as far as a Walmart pocket knife that does well try the HART folding utility knife. I'm not sure what steel it is but that is another knife that I was very impressed with on its ability to take and retain an edge. Second sharpest knife that I carry that is not carbon steel. With the same sharpening process, I can cut curves in newspaper with both the hart and the harbor freight. And I use them regularly for household tasks and even cutting apart cardboard for recycling and we all know cardboard is harsh on an edge; yet only ever had to sharpen each one once since the initial.
I have the GK21. Love it. Pretty good for less than $10. I lose knives. Some people think $50 is inexpensive. Nope. I can 5 of these for the same price and if I lose one it's not a catastrophe..
That Gordon flipper is by far better than any gas station knife. They are measuring the total blade length from the tip to the back of the flipper tab. I got a couple just for tool box knives.
Harbor freights $4 feeler gauge tool makes an awesome key organizer and the metal feeler gauges are super simple to mod into other tools, lock picks, flat heads, prys, bottle openers etc.
I've had some friends say that harbor freight pistol grip clamps tend to bow the steel rod, but only under heavy pressure. I guess they could be that once-in-a-while use thing, just not for continuous heavy duty jobs
I’ve been waiting for awhile for that ICON RXFT-35 toolset to be back in stock in Northern CA, I don’t know how long ago you picked that set up. I will try to ask them to check the back next time I’m in the store, I did call the local store to have them check stock and they said nada and they don’t know when!
I picked up the stubby and the pocket knife a couple weeks ago with a 30% off any item under $10 coupon. The knife has been corrected as it now says 2.9 inch knife (it’s also model gk 24).The detent on the lock is pretty stiff so much that I can’t use the thumb studs but for $7 it’s a perfectly acceptable knife. The stubby has worked great so far.
Definitely test the magnesium bar I carried one on a bicycle for 2000 miles and found out it didn't work. It wouldn't even burn when I put a blowtorch on it, let alone a spark.
I had this problem too, but they've become more available at my local store within the last month. Check back in with them, they might have turned up at yours. :)
Another fun fact. The first item in the video has a grove in the back of the pocket clip is for snapping off the dull blade tip. You take the pocket clip out of the back, snap off the dull tip, then put the pocket clip back. I would bet that blade is replacable out the back as well.
Even the Gordon "paraframe" knife, I tend to enjoy WAY more than the Gerber - it's construction is better, it has better shims, and you're less prone to touching the edge through the frame due to it's design, and it has a flipper. As beater knives, they can't be beat.
What is pocket clipped to your front pocket? Btw i got the. Peasants knife for Christmas. And because of your past the other day i just ordered the armbar. It will be he first multitool. She works at a wedding venue so the cork screw will come in handy
I went to my local HF to get the Gordon pocket knife. Someone else who saw your review got there 15 minutes before me and cleaned them out! I asked if they would let me know when more arrived and hold one for me. Nope, against their policy. I wound up getting 2 of the 69 cent retractable blades, green and blue for my color themed EDC photos.
@@maxlvledc these Gordon knives are the real deal! I used a T6 to change the clip for tip up carry and touched up the blade on my Spyderco Sharpmaker. I would compare this knife to the Sanrenmu 7010 and the Ontario Rat 2. Thank you for reviewing it.
I have a small ratcheting screw that came with 70 drivers and I paid $6 at Home Depot. Purchased 12 years ago parts are warrantied forever and I use it all the time
Did a search for "Harbor Freight" in your video catalog this morning after I saw your video on the Gordon Multi-tool. Already had the Icon ratchet set, but was intrigued by the Gordon knife. They have definitely updated the web site and in store to all say "2.9 inch" so corrected now. Awesome $10 beater that my son is about to learn to sharpen with. Great work. More HF videos!
Dude needs to check out the Olympia utility knife. 4 different locking points and it’s butter smooth in operation. Con is that the pivot WILL come out if it is not screwed in enough. Would recommend blue Loctite with it
the HF trigger squeeze clamps are crazy for the price point. I have had the moving end piece snap on me bc its plastic and im dumb, but i save the clamps by using the hardware to bolt a piece of metal or quick cut up scrap wood as a replacement clamp end. 5 bucks for the ratching mechanism and slide bar is super worth it👍
I've been using mine and breaking it in over the weekend. Changed the clip to tip up carry, touched it up with my Spyderco Sharpmaker and used some graphite for a little bit of lock stick. The only negatives are a slightly weak detent and the clip is a tad too tight. Confirmed with a second sample. Overall a great achievement in inexpensive knives. I was at Cabelas today and they were selling a RAT 2 in Aus8 for 40! 8CR13mov is similar to Aus8 and the Rat is not worth 4x as much.
Oh yeah! Need that Doyle ratcheting stubby! And I got that Gordon liner lock knoife in my pocket. Lousy pocket clip- gone in one week. Unable to locate a driver to fit the screws.
I got two of those 69cent razors a while back and it's been one of the best bang for my buck items I've put in my work bag in the last year. It's not sexy or over engineered but those things have been awesome to have around. The best part is they're so cheap I have zero worry about breaking or losing them
I see that you opened the box with the mx clip. Is that your edc now? I am thinking of either getting a wave or mx clip (they are the same price where I live). Which would you recommend? I am leaning towards the wave because of the oho blades, longer wire cutter (I tend to cut thick soft wires for electrical) and bit driver. I am switching from a Blast wich had the perfect toolset for my need except for maybe a diamond file. But I need the oho blade so these models come to mind.
@@maxlvledc To be precise, the wave costs 180$ and the mx clip costs 175$ due to high import taxes on the leatherman. (Charge is also 230$ here) I am surprised by your answer. Would have thought that you would choose the wave. I get that the spirit has a better build quality, but the wave has the bit kit, diamond file, serrated blade and micro driver (these are the things I either use a lot on my Blast or would really like it to have). What it lacks is the awl and chisel (which I don't use) and long reach philips and flathead. It also has the longer wire cutter which for me is the main reason to choose that. I found that the cutter on the skeletool did not satisfy my needs and the spirit seems to have the same size, so I opt to choose the wave. What would be your main points on choosing the spirit? Maybe your reason to choose the spirit would be different than my criterias?
I have the Icon RXFT-35 & got it out to check out my new ratcheting screwdriver from Vessel. When you showed it on the $10 special program, I started running to my car to get one, but my wife said to stop, that it sells for $45. Do you have a special price or code number?
First off, thank you for recognizing a good product despite the price point. Other youtubers seem to go out of there way to trash bargain products. I picked up the Gordon knife and utility knife today. Saved me 30$ over a spiderco Astute I saw on clearance and the knife is great. Wish I had the utility knife when I was cutting paneling, as that second locking position would have saved a lot of wrist pain. Great finds, thanks!
I buy a pack of zip ties everytime I drive by a harbor freight. A couple bucks. Thousands of uses. The plastic isn't super ethical but would be good even in a survival/prep kit. I use them for construction.
For me, I would probably carry my peasant knife still. Cheap and fairly light still, but I tend to use it for a little heavier work than just opening boxes. I am also a fan of the thrunight archer mini flashlight. I have to have a proud push button on the back of my flashlights, twists just irritate me.
Great video👊 also take back what you don't like get something else. Could you do a video on the ICON pliers that they compare to the knipex. Tell us what you think
I have a Milwaukee little stubby ratcheting multi bit screwdriver, it looks just like the Doyle but has bits stored in handle, you push the bit out of handle with another bit, there is like 8 bits or something
The logical would be to measure the blade from the scales forward, it's a marketing ploy, they've measured the blade before assembly, sneaky advertising but legal, enjoy the vids from Aus 👍🍻😊 Oh & the 8cr is on par with 440s, depending on the temper of the steel, if it's baked right it's great, to many choices these days for neanderthal bone scrapers 😂
I like to use those smoked safety glasses when I use the OxyAcetylene torch. Fun fact! 5/16 is about* 8mm. So that stubby ratchet might actually serve to be SUPER functional. Anyway.. looks like I’m off to buy that knife. and have $113.00 of randomness sneak itself into the shopping cart. I can’t leave that place without spending $100 minimum 🤦♂️. *5/16 is 7.938mm. So 0.062mm or just 0.002 of an inch off. In the experience of most, it fits. Nice and snug.

I will have to get one if the flippers. I bought a knife branded by Crescent from lowes that has very similar construction. It has a 5cr blade but still a decent knife.
I wouldn’t call Harbor Freight “my local hardware store.” More like “the behemoth that is driving local hardware stores out of business.” And most things at Harbor Freight cost way more than they did a few years ago (although, admittedly, the quality of some of their products has improved). But there are still some good bargains to be had at HF, and I still shop there sometimes.
I don't know about your hardware store but mine has a ton of stuff that Harbor Freight doesn't carry, and they cater to what people need locally. Shop small!

Did you say that model number rxft-35 was $10 or less? Because they want $45 at my local HF.
Oh yeah! Need that Doyle ratcheting stubby! And I got that Gordon liner lock knoife in my pocket. Lousy pocket clip- gone in one week. Unable to locate a driver to fit the screws.
I just bought a squeegee there on sale for $5. Folding head and extending aluminum handle so it packs small, good for keeping in the car.
I got two of those 69cent razors a while back and it's been one of the best bang for my buck items I've put in my work bag in the last year. It's not sexy or over engineered but those things have been awesome to have around. The best part is they're so cheap I have zero worry about breaking or losing them
Very nice haul! I see a trip to Harbor Freight in my very near future.
Are you able to do a video explaining the different steel types commonly found on knives and multitools?
I see that you opened the box with the mx clip. Is that your edc now? I am thinking of either getting a wave or mx clip (they are the same price where I live). Which would you recommend? I am leaning towards the wave because of the oho blades, longer wire cutter (I tend to cut thick soft wires for electrical) and bit driver. I am switching from a Blast wich had the perfect toolset for my need except for maybe a diamond file. But I need the oho blade so these models come to mind.
Same price?!?!? Mx clip hands down not even a contest
@@maxlvledc To be precise, the wave costs 180$ and the mx clip costs 175$ due to high import taxes on the leatherman. (Charge is also 230$ here)
I am surprised by your answer.
Can you get these anywhere else? we dont have harborfreight outside USA
What chain shops do you have?
@@maxlvledc We have mainly Scandinavian chains not international ones.
@@supernova1976 ahhh, yea, no idea.
I have the Icon RXFT-35 & got it out to check out my new ratcheting screwdriver from Vessel. When you showed it on the $10 special program, I started running to my car to get one, but my wife said to stop, that it sells for $45. Do you have a special price or code number?
No, it's just a bonus item I mentioned because I picked it up in the same trip for $45
@@maxlvledc kind of "bait-and-switchy" having a $50 item in the $10 video.
Where did you get that ruler?
I daily that gordon 8cr knife and ive had it for a year and it has worked flawlessly
Great finds, thanks!
doyle make excellent pliers when their sets are on sale...grab one
I have tried the magnesium fire started, it is working with small blade😅 but better with actual knives
Dope video dude. I need a cheap pocket knife for work because I keep letting people use mine and sure as hell they get lost every time...
I buy a pack of zip ties everytime I drive by a harbor freight. A couple bucks. Thousands of uses. The plastic isn't super ethical but would be good even in a survival/prep kit. I use them for construction.
Any particular reason you prefer tip up carry? Tip up carry is my biggest gripe with most "nice" knives and kinda a deal breaker for me.
Mostly it's training..I've gotten so used to it.
Gordon measured from the taint. Just like me.
Useful and informative, thanks.
I broke like a dozen of those clamps as they couldn't hold the pressure on the clamp part, but the pump grip.
That knife was surprising.
The knife looks like it had a reversible ambidextrous pocket clip. You could have just checked the clip anyways since you can move it.
I have a Milwaukee little stubby ratcheting multi bit screwdriver, it looks just like the Doyle but has bits stored in handle, you push the bit out of handle with another bit, there is like 8 bits or something
I would guess they’re measuring the knife folded. Which is a weird way to measure it. 19:10
I think HF is measuring the flipper tab on the blade.
Go to Harbor freight all the time
Kinda a cool place
The logical would be to measure the blade from the scales forward, it's a marketing ploy, they've measured the blade before assembly, sneaky advertising but legal, enjoy the vids from Aus 👍🍻😊
Oh & the 8cr is on par with 440s, depending on the temper of the steel, if it's baked right it's great, to many choices these days for neanderthal bone scrapers 😂
That is a cool pocket ruler. Anyone know what brand/model?
I like to use those smoked safety glasses when I use the OxyAcetylene torch. Fun fact! 5/16 is about* 8mm. So that stubby ratchet might actually serve to be SUPER functional.
Anyway.. looks like I’m off to buy that knife. and have $113.00 of randomness sneak itself into the shopping cart. I can’t leave that place without spending $100 minimum 🤦♂️.
*5/16 is 7.938mm. So 0.062mm or just 0.002 of an inch off. In the experience of most, it fits. Nice and snug.
The icon ratchet system was $39 at Harbor Freight today. Employee said its never been $10.
neither did I, I just mentioned that I ALSO found the ratchet set. sorry for the confusion.
@@maxlvledc yeah me too ! I've be4en scanning thru the video looking for the spot that you talk about this kit to be sure it was actually under $10 ! Something in my head told me that there was no way it was $10 or less. Very Confusing Sir - But I forgive ya !! Thanks for all the other info.
They probably measure from the base of the shaft to two inches past the tip.
That’s what I do, anyway lol
I will have to get one if the flippers. I bought a knife branded by Crescent from lowes that has very similar construction. It has a 5cr blade but still a decent knife.
havent been to harbor freight in a long time.. had no idea they sold knifes lol
Shop small!
@@fredfinger7092 Also true.
