- Darrell Brooks hinted at calling his ex-girlfriend to the stand on Friday but refused to confirm his plan. "It's Erika Paterson, your honor. There is no mystery," District Attorney Susan Opper proclaimed. "Everybody think they know what I'm thinking," Brooks said, denying the theory.

I think I remember a witness that he brought in, when cross examined and asked by the prosecution "how many kids do you have" he objected saying "relevance" and the woman started to sob. He ran over her kids and then said that they were irrelevent to her face. It's genuinely "mind boggling" that he is that devoid of empathy and that he's still been breathing for a couple of decades
But he wants to bring up his kids in his closing. It is disgusting. I hope he never holds his newborn.

The ADA did an amazing cross examination of her by slowly, and gently asking her each and every injury her children sustained. It was damning and brilliantly done by the ADA. The pain Brooks caused that woman was palpable. I cried

He is stalling the process because he knows that he is going to get life sentences, 1 for each life taken. This judge should be given a year vacation to any location of her choosing, with the ability to have an unlimited income and private jet.

It's unfortunate that the law cannot make a distinction between providing a defendant the opportunity to defend themselves and allowing a narcissist a platform to delay proceedings.
Unfortunately, in order to have the former, we must allow the latter as well. And thank the judge, prosecution, and witnesses for their patience.

In his mind its him vs the world, which he is right. Its exactly that. So thats how he exactly reacts. Even really controlled. If you were in that situation, where literally everybody you see, hear, meet, smell is against you, chances are high you would lose your mind long time ago. So do you really have the right to judge him? Yea of course you do, free speech.
Unfortunately in order to maintain the right to defend yourself you have to entertain the clowns along with anyone who may be able to take that on themselves.
To make that decision for others puts the integrity of that very right in jeopardy and opens pandoras box for future nitwits to try to refer to that one incident as precedent.
They handled this perfectly and allowed this piece of garbage to bury himself while never putting the right allowed in this country at risk.

@Kevin you are right! I never thought about that. He never had a letter- thats why he tried to claim someone "moved 'it off his table- but then said he was not blaming anyone. I feel sorry for anyone who has had to deal with this guy. If nothing else is accomplished (other than Justice) I think this trial made him realize what little control he really has. Sad part he will never change.

Oh my gosh - - - it's fair to say that he's going to interrupt those poor family members with constant objections and disparaging muttered remarks as they give statements about the worst day of their lives. I almost wish the families refuse to give impact statements, depriving him of the satisfaction of mocking them further after everything he's already put them through. Their words won't mean a thing to this guy. HE'S the victim.
