    His defense was that he wasn't speeding and he honked his horn, so it wasn't his fault that people didn't get out of his way fast enough. He blamed his victims because he is a malignant narcissist and he believes he can do no wrong. The truth is that he was out on bail, he beat up his ex girlfriend, her friends called the cops, and he was enraged and didn't want to go back to jail. So, in his rage and fear of arrest he mowed over dozens of people without blinking an eye because they were in his way and he's a monster. I think one of the funniest aspect of this case is that the jury returned verdicts on 76 counts in about 3 hours. That's about 2.5 minutes per verdict, including any breaks. Just going through and signing the forms would take at least 30 minutes, That tells me that there was absolutely no disagreement in the jury room.

    • @QemeH
      @QemeH Год назад +190

      I think the major "sticking point" was the last charge. It is also the only charge they requested to re-watch evidence for on the second day. It should also be said that these jurors were apparently willing to WORK, because they requested evidence late into the first day and elected a very late stopping time when the judge clearly gave them the option to break whenever they felt like it. So it is safe to assume they didn't argue a lot, just made sure among themselves that everybody was in agreement on EVERY charge - you know, to be thorough.

    Now that I've had a chance to sit down and realize what was going on with this case, I realized that it wasn't just the judge that Brooks was trying to get to slip up. It was everybody. Because if one person had slipped up in this whole thing, he could called a mistrial. The whole point of this case is getting everybody to be the reason why the mistrial was called. I forgot about when apparently there was a tweet that happened and he tried to use that tweet for the mistrial. The questions that he asked the witnesses, if he had gotten the rise that he wanted out of them, that would have been a reason for mistrial. If he had gotten somebody in the jury to act out of conduct, that would have been a reason for the mistrial. That's what this whole thing was about. Who can I pull to be the reason why there is a mistrial? And there was no one who jumped. So as much as we applaud the judge for her professionalism. Each and every person in that courtroom deserves, I think, just as much praise, especially the victims and those affected.

      Technically it is in the law. No Jury member has to explain his vote. So at the end the prosecution can have the best proven case in the world. If one of the jury thinks its to harsh, or really likes the defendant, (s)he can just declare "not guilty" and theres nothing a judge can do about that. As to why someone would find that P.O.S. Not Guilty no clue. I dont think he uttered a single sentence that didnt hinder his own course....

    That jury nullification thing really hits home with me. I'm a prosecutor in a small rural county and I had a trial where a young man (21 or 22) was accused of burglary. We had it on video - he broke into the store, he shoved as much beer as he he could down his pants and carried out two more cases, but all the jury found him guilty for was petty theft. Their reasoning: He's just a young man and didn't *_need_* a felony burglary on his record. All that did was encourage him to do commit more crimes because he thought he could get away with them even if caught. Now he's in prison for 10 years after being convicted of his 5th DUI offense, so at least karma caught up to him.
