    here's one downside for this fabulous mic system, when you use it with an iPhone you only get mono mode you do not get separate stereo left and right channel. Please DJI, with a software update could you please make it so the iPhone will stay in stereo mode in not forced into mono mode… I know you can use the transmitter's as recorders but it's just one more step I have to work with when I get into post production. I work on long documentaries and I don't need more files to keep track of or hard Drive space…

    • @TechTravelBeyond

      Yes...you have to use an Apple Certified adapter like this video showed by GadgetGuru. He uses a Saramonic Apple Certified adapter: ruclips.net/video/8NjVTMbxE8I/видео.html. DJI doesn't have that licensing, so is perhaps the reason why.

    • @krammman

      yeah, the C-35 cable is $50
      DJI just fix the connector work it out with iPhone otherwise don't advertise that you can use it with the iPhone because you can't completely use it. Mono is useless

      Yes! The DJI Mic can be used with Android and iPhone. I showed the example of the DJI action which uses the USB-C as you would for Android. I also showed the iPhone footage and used the Lightning adapter. As for your choice, since the charging case, adapters and cables are included, I showed the advantage could be the DJI mics. I went from Rode to DJI so watch again to see the advantages. As always when starting your channel, use what you have and if you want to invest, your audio is the thing that counts because most viewers will stop watching if they cannot hear good audio. • @TechTravelBeyond
      @TechTravelBeyond  2 года назад +1

      I’ve not tried the USB-C to lightning port. If the adapters don’t work for you, perhaps a different adapter with your device that has 3.5mm TRS input. That would be a go-to if the small adapters don’t work. I use the 3.5mm TRS cable with my Osmo Pocket 1 &2 and Osmo Action since the USB-C wasn’t designed with audio input standards like the Action 2.

    Chuck, have you experienced low volume recording when recording to the mic/transmitter? (ie:backup recording) Mine doesn't work well. The volume to the receiver/camera works great. From what I've seen, it's a problem.

    • @TechTravelBeyond
      @TechTravelBeyond  2 года назад

      The DJI manual says the mic recording is -6 db of output level compared to what is output from the receiver. In order to increase it, you can try increasing the gain for the mic via the receiver menus, but if your also outputting to a camera, you’ll need to adjust input levels in the camera. I did a voiceover and while the volume was lower, I increased the track level in my editing software without any issues.

    How strong is the hotshoe mount? DP Review said it was weak and broke within a week of use.

    • @TechTravelBeyond
      @TechTravelBeyond  2 года назад

      The hotshoe mount is small and plastic. I haven’t removed it after I put it on because it fits in the charging case attached. The clip is also not as big/thick to fit in some hot shoe mounts as the Rode’s so you may need to find another place to clip it. I’ve clipped the Rode to its 3.5mm cable and have done the same with DJIs since I don’t often run/gun as I film. Thanks for watching!

    Need your help. The first time I used these i.e dji wireless mic and uploaded my video on RUclips the sound turned out too low. I had set the transmitter to + 3 and receiver to +1. Also I am using a dji Pocket 2 with a dji audio adapter(your tip, thanks). What audio levels do I set on the receiver and transmitter to get a satisfactory audio if not perfect. Thanks . I cannot find any videos on YT on setting gain levels in different environments. What's the thumb rule for setting gain levels between the transmitter, receiver and the camera.

    • @TechTravelBeyond
      @TechTravelBeyond  2 года назад

      You have a whole lot of variables to check. Check the levels in your camera, and then when editing you need to set the audio levels to be the same for your clips, and you need to set the audio output levels of your file to what’s acceptable for RUclips. While I have the workflow for my setup, I learned from various RUclips videos for all I’m using. You’re gonna have to study all that for your setup. Thanks for watching!

  • @BenEncounters
    @BenEncounters 2 года назад

    Can you start the recording on both transmitters at the same time using a single button on the receiver? And do you think it will work if I put both mics on my two shoulders facing forward as I interact with strangers? Would it be a good configuration to capture my voice, as well as the voice of the strangers, at a similar volume?

    • @TechTravelBeyond
      @TechTravelBeyond  2 года назад

      According to the DJI Manual (dl.djicdn.com/downloads/DJI_Mic/DJI_Mic_User_Manual_v1.0_enI.pdf) you can only start back up track recordings using the individual Record button on each receiver. As far as mic placement, you can place one mic on yourself, and the other strategically to focus on other sound sources. If you are doing a street type interview, you can clip the second mic onto a surface or buy a mic holder like this one: amzn.to/3yloOZF This works similar to the one for Rode wireless mics. Hope this helps!

    • @TechTravelBeyond
      @TechTravelBeyond  2 года назад

      1. In order to hear what you recorded on iPhone, you must remove the DJI receiver from the lightning port to hear playback on the iPhone speakers. 2. Voice control is a feature on the DJI Action 2, just like the GoPro. 3. Depressing the linking button stops and starts video recordings on iPhone just like you can with the volume up/down on the iPhone. I did the sample with the iPhone 13 Pro for that and made sure to set both examples apart from each other.

    I don't understand this channel business left channel right channel
    Is that the two transmitters ie one is left one is right ?
    I just got this.
    Also wtf is mono or stereo as both lines (what are they called? Are they the channels or they left ear right ear) move up and down in the equaliser or audio thing in premiere pro.
    If I mic up a second person if they have their own transmitter how to set it up so their voice goes on separately.
    The settings inside this are stereo mono and safery plus L/R and R/L what benefit is that switching thing ?

    • @TechTravelBeyond
      @TechTravelBeyond  2 года назад

      This mic competes with the Rode Wireless Go 2, and they pretty much do the same thing. Both mics can be set up to record on separate channels (one mic as right, one mic as left).
      There are some who film interviews in stereo and if you listen on headphones or on a stereo TV setup, you get the stereo imaging as recorded. When you have two people designated as your talent, one can be mic'd as on the right, and one on the left to reflect where they are positioned as you would in an interview. This will help in the audio representation of what it would be like if you were in the same room. If your talent changes positions, you don't have to change mics because you can easily change their L/R designations in the receiver.
      If you get creative with wireless setups, you can film a scene like they do with liv mics in a theater set up in a stereo matrix to give your viewer a feel of their movement from right to left on screen, etc.
      For most with RUclips and Instagram content, this wouldn't be necessary, although you can apply to content if most of your audience is listening in stereo and the medium supports it.

      I did see a video not that I fully understood it yet where you can adjust each voice if necessary in premiere pro. But can they be made to come out of both sides together not like ear tennis lol
      Mono obviously simpler but as noted if sounds are off ie one louder there is nothing you can do in post.
