St. Louis auto experts say thieves can easily steal cars without keys or fobs

- News 4 found an auto repair expert who says he knows exactly how thieves are doing this. Joe Barbaglia, owner of Columbia Auto Repair in The Hill, says they're taking apart pieces of the inside of your car behind your dash board and sometimes using advanced technology to get your car running. Barbaglia says car thefts have been out of control.
I always take my key out of the ignition and lock the doors when i get out to pump gas. In 2022 everyone is suspect.
In Memphis they would just knock ur AZZ out and take da keys

There is no punishment for breaking the law anymore. Private prison systems and bleeding hearts. You get punished for defending yourself or your property though.
Don't be a drama queen. People never got busted for car theft in the past, this isn't new. It's just becoming more common now.
Put a kill switch and don’t keep your fob close to your door at night
This will kill 99% of the opportunities they rely on to take your car
I just had an automatic start that has a kill switch I believe. Will this help.

The only way to stop these folks is with under cover stings by private individuals that way when the criminals are caught you can get the justice that the police can't give call the morgue when it is over
You can do that and they can still steal your car , all they need is a chip amplifier
They stole that car at the gas station because she was by the car with her fob or it was in the car. They didn't do something special 2 take it

Key fob could have been with the owner. Those infiniti vehcile only use the fobs to unlock and start the car. Once it's on it can be placed in park and back in drive without the fob having to be nearby. So that person pumping gas likely had the vehicle running when it was stolen

As somebody who lived through the surge of car thefts in the nineties, the club doesn't work... You have 2 options, cut through a steel club, or cut the soft stirring wheel. Lost a 92 Honda that way. It seems like you would need something like a deadbolt and steel/chain snow tire cover. Wrap the column with the chain tire cover and lock it. If there's no leverage to break the steering column cover a criminal will pass. Make sure its visible when parked, so that it can be seen through a window without the need of breaking said window.

How does that get around the steering lock? Ok you start the car from behind the ignition but surely that doesn't overcome the steering lock ...

fuel, starter, ignition, power, ecu hidden kill switch any of these will deter vehicle theft. or personal favourite air/smart tag. gas theft different story. theft where i am is by towing. cut brake lines hook up to tow.
Every time I exit my car, no matter for how long or how far away I will be, I lock it and pull on the handle to make sure it’s locked

@@DESIGNS-vo1mt These new cars, which do not need a key to start, are easy to steal. You have your fob in your pocket and you get into your car and press a button and the car starts. As long as you are within 5 feet of the car, someone else can slide behind the wheel and push the button and drive off with the car. Therefore, you pull up to a gas station, turn off the engine and go to the back of your vehicle to pump gas. You are standing within 5 feet and someone jumps in your car, pushes the button and off they go. As long as the engine is running, you don't need the fob. Once the engine is turned off and there is no fob within 5 feet, they can not restart the car. So it is a one-time use stolen vehicle.

first off if u notice the car they stolen in the video the gas tank was on the passenger side not driver side if its on the drivers side it would be hard to steal inless u get in the passenger side and most van and cars are hard to get across to the driver side and some truck

The club is a really bad anti theft device. the club may be tough but the steering wheel it is hooked onto is a thin metal tube which can be cut with a hack saw in seconds. Get a security system with an immobilizer if the vehicle means anything to you.

I literally got gas at that exact same pump yesterday morning and I noticed the flyers, now I see what happened. Geeze... I have a baby so I always make sure to take key and lock doors.

Sure. When pumping gas in your car, just take out with you all your valuables, suitcases, golf clubs etc. whatever, and lock your car. Simple.
I will never buy a car with gas tank door on the passenger side.
