Great content, Professor. I was a kid in the 80's in my native Panama City, Panama, so it's the soundtrack of my life and Phil Collins was a major part of it. It's amazing how you're able to captivate an audience by talking about an artist and not beig able to play a single note from any of his songs. Remarkable, thanks for the video! Keep 'em comin'!

Genesis wrote some of the most downright beautiful and well constructed pieces during the 70s and even the 80s, I always considered them a "musician's band" both because every member were fantastically talented multi instrumentalists, and I find that musicians of all stripes have a lot of love for Phil and Genesis. Heathaze off of Duke may be the greatest songs ever written and the stretch of Genesis albums from "Nursery Cryme" through to "Abacab" are some of my favorite music ever in any genre or by any artist period. I personally like Peter Gabriel's version of Genesis a bit more for the story based theatrics and his ridiculously charismatic stage presence but Phil created a musical empire.
A more appropriate way to end a video about Genesis and Phil Collins might be 30 chords and the truth LOL

Phil Collins and Genesis-the soundtracks of my life. Saw Phil in concert during the Serious Hits tour in 1990. The guy was an energizer bunny! Fantastic. He is truly one of a kind. Drumming god, singer extraordinaire, writing phenom. The talent is crazy. The Genesis 1986 Wembley concert is off the charts! That group is gifted beyond any other group. The finale Turn it on Again is a master class in performance. I don’t know where Phil got the energy to perform nonstop for years at such a high level. Thank you for doing this tribute. When you see all the consecutive song hits over 10 years, it’s mind blowing. Phil was great in Miami Vice and his music was used a lot in that show. The 80s were great times! Best times for music. We will never see great music again.

I discovered Professor of Rock the other day with a video extolling the forgotten classic Level 42’s Something About You. Now he drops a video about my hero Phil Collins. I’m right at home here. I might also add to the accolades that Phil is responsible for making gated reverb a staple of the 80s music diet. He deserves not just a spot in the Rock hall of fame, he should be knighted for his contribution to the arts and British culture.

Great video. Ive been a fan of Genesis and Phil's music for years. I've had my fair share of teasing and jibes from fellow musician's over the years as he criminally gets seen as a bit of a joke here in the UK. Sad but often true.
But as you so rightly say in this video the guy was prolific. Listen to those early Genesis records, his drumming is virtuosic and frankly stunning. His voice on Invisible Touch is possibly the most muscular and powerful of all the Genesis records. his solo albums Face Value in particular, is brilliant in its breadth of styles and experimentation. I still listen to that record and hear new things.
Time Phil and his band mates were recognised with respect for great musicianship and songwriting. Genesis were truly progressive rock. Each album a leap forward from the last.
Thanks for making this video! x Matt

But people only hear “one more night” and “Groovy kind of love” His first album is stunning with many styles of music. If anyone gives me grief for being a Phil Collins fan then I assume they are ignorant twat. It is ok if they say they are not keen on his music or voice as tastes differ, but to say he is rubbish is just plan stupid.

This video is everything. I mean, Phil managed to run a worldwide famous band and solo career AT THE SAME TIME. And hitting the charts over and over again. He went from really complex progressive rock songs to deep beautiful ballads, drumming, singing, playing piano, producing. Touring all over the world constantly. And never acquiring that rockstar figure but the complete opposite. He clearly doesn't get the recognition he deserves. But, from a Chilean 27 years old fan (look where his music has reach to) who have been listening him and Genesis since first memories, Phil is one of the greatest of all time. Great song. You guys should also listen to the album that it’s from - “Chinese Wall”. Lots of catchy original songs on there (some are just as fast paced as Easy Lover) & Phil played drums & sang b/g vocals on the whole album.

They had a scripted, discipline video all set up for Easy Lover, but they made so many mistakes that were so memorable along the that the "Oops Loop" that was supposed to be released turned out to be the actual video itself. Too much fun to make, and too much talent in the room. That's what happens.

I've been a fan of Genesis (incl. solo careers) since No Son Of Mine was released in the autumn of 1991. That was the first single from the We Can't Dance album. The amount of great music those guys did with the band and solo is so incredible; it seems there is always a song or an album for every mood and every phase in your life. This musical legacy will be part of my life until the day I die. Thank you, Professor, for this portrait of the legendary Phil Collins, who often get so unfairly treated.

I’ve been a devoted fan since 1974. I think his book was forgotten to be discussed. Wow ! Was that great! He turns whatever he touches into gold ! I can’t even pick one song.......there’s just too many !! When Phil took over the singing duties , I loved the band even more because his voice does justice to ALL the songs from the Gabriel era. I love Gabriel. He is a wonderful writer but his singing isn’t anything near the beauty and strength of Phil’s. All of his kids are super talented too ,!! Hs such a cutie, I wish I knew him !!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I totally loved this review on Phil Collins career, it's one if not my favorite artists of all time, you've said it all about him, such a terrific performer, i know it's modern but the soundtrack from Tarzan it's one of a kind and even considering he played most of the instruments and arrange most of the music, Face Value is priceless with every song in it, We Can't Dance by Genesis is a masterpiece without having to gave any dis respect to the other albums before it, his collaboration with Philip Bailey from Earth, Wind and Fire in Easy Lover is a must for all music lovers out there, anyway thank you, thank you for giving us such a remarkable notes on Phil's career, apreciate the Spotify's playlist and everything in it, keep it up!!

Listening to the cassette my mom had of Face Value and the Genesis album Genesis were the reasons when I got further along in grade school, I signed up for concert band and took drums through my later years in grade school and kept up with percussion in junior high. Phil Collins is and was an absolute master of the skins. All the intricacies of his work with Genesis and his solo hits- the man is a true gift musically speaking.
Not that he'd ever see this, but thanks for all the music and the inspiration to learn an instrument, Mr Collins.

Thomas Scott Anytime I hear someone say “corporate rock” or “they sold out” because they dared to write a hit song that appeals to the masses... it just screams “Music Snob” to me. And just because a song or album is popular, that doesn’t make it bad.

I just got tickets for his new genesis reunion tour at the end of 2020 and I can’t wait for that also . Absolutely love the respect you showed in this video as he seems to get a lot of hate for a reason I have no idea why but long live the legend that is phil collins

I've been a huge fan of Phil's since I was 11 years old. I feel like he and his music have been with me throughout my entire life. My husband proposed to me after the But Seriously concert that he waited overnight in line on the street to get tickets for (before there was on online, lol!) I rocked my babies to sleep humming his songs, they got my through my husband's battle with Pancreatic cancer which eventually led to his death in 2008. At Phil's latest return to the stage my daughters, both young adults now, got us all tickets to go see him in Boston in 2018. After seeing Phil solo and with Genesis 9 times, I sat between my girls and relished every moment of his performance as he sat in a chair for all but one song. It was incredible, my eyes were filled with tears and my heart was full. Thank you, kind sir, for showing Phil some love and giving him the respect he so richly deserves.
