She'd make a great Archbishop of Canterbury, denying all wrongs and having a tearful moment or two whilst ordering a couple of inquiries to be carried out by total incompetents and instructing that at no point is she to be informed of anything found.
Real name? No wonder, when she chose her career, she wanted the ‘protection’ of the law …. Meanwhile, in defending V, she happily throws all those OTHER cretins under a long, long line of buses: 38:55 “Miss Vennells was given the impression…”
It is telling that Vennells did not have the courage to present her own abuttal - instead using her solicitors, Corker Binning to very unconvincingly speak for her. At the presentation of her 775 page witness statement to the Inquiry, it was stated that her legal fees were £400,000. Presumably that has doubled in their creation of the abuttal. Vennells was paid £6million between 2007 and 2019. I sincerely hope that Vennells will be required to pay her own legal costs. It would be a travesty of justice if they were to be somehow wangled out of public funds.
I am sure that the lawyer defending Paula Vennels is highly qualified in obscuration, deception and obstructive directioning. CEO Chief Executive Officer. In charge, buck stops here, responsible for the operation of the organisation. If she was not up to the job she should have stayed in the typing pool taking notes.
Like rats of a sinking ship they are all running for cover blame each other deflect ignore I can’t recall but the problem was they were all there and they all knew and now they’re trying to cover up again. It’s an absolute disgrace. They all need to go to jail and pay the time.
WHAT A COW!! How she can sit there and defend Vennells' gross incompetence and neglect - as well as her brazen disregard - is quite breathtaking. They should ALL be prosecuted. The 'poor little me' line definitely DOES NOT WORK!!
I recall a famous plaque on the desk of former U.S. President Truman - “The Buck stops here”. P.V. lawyer’s take note, all your clap trap cannot hide this simple fact.
So PVs lawyer is basically saying that Jason Beer got it wrong when he questioned Vennells ? I dont think so ...he worked meticulously to ensure he nailed all the necessary evidence..this lawyer is basically trying to unpick this..and failing miserably
Government line to be given to Parliament in response to the Wyn Report - 'It is our view that it would serve no useful purpose and therefore not be in the public interest to pursue prosecutions at this stage against named individuals.'
Reverend Venal , I saw nothing, heard nothing, and know nothing! It was a big boy that did it and he ran away. What a pathetic excuse for a human being, Post Masters appealed directly to her, she ignored every plea.
It's clear what happened. Firstly, the lawyers and investigators were utterly incompetent. Once the miscarriages had occurred, those in senior management levels were more concerned with protecting their lucrative positions and bonuses. There must have been a stage where they knew but dug in to protect their positions.
I thought her lawyer did a very good job. After all, it is clear from the inquiry that POL was behaving institutionally and many of the injustices had little to do with the one person at the top for part of the period. Her culpability is that she didn't change or challenge it - but that applies to numerous others - including lawyers - too. Also, in context, PV is bound to be hung out to dry so reading into the record this defence is a preparation for any trial.
@ajons190 If by "POL was operating institutionally," you mean run by overpaid, arrogant, incurious, but vindictive incompetents driving an industrial scale 'legal miscarriage machine' aimed squarely at the SPMs then I guess I have no argument with you. On the other hand, if it's meant to excuse their despicable behaviour...
Unless P. Vennels was resident in a far-flung country, how Vennels could not be aware of the computer faults & subsequent prosecutions.
Because she was completely useless, and because she had no idea what was going on, and failed to answer any questions.
How many of those responsible will face a CRIMINAL trial and PRISON?
None, obviously 😮
Nein
@jonathangeddes9786 Absolutely, the inquiry will go on and on and on and on and......😞

All willing to throw each other under the bus to protect themselves..

Vennells can afford an expensive lawyer. Her victims could not.

Surely, anyone in their right mind would ask "Why are we having so many cases?" This is a typical example of impractical and stupid upper management.
I’m sure the Courts will make the ultimate decision! May take a few years though
its definately a corker coming up with that excuse shame on you

Miss Binning is only doing her job.

Why did Ms Vennels stop Mrs Crichton from addressing the Post Office Board??
That was Alice Perkins
Well the criminal courts will bring out more issues Madam that your client will have to face
She was blind, deaf and wholly dumb and indeed criminal. For her lawyer to claim anything else, is also criminal
The public will make their judgement.
So PVs lawyer is basically saying that Jason Beer got it wrong when he questioned Vennells ? I dont think so ...he worked meticulously to ensure he nailed all the necessary evidence..this lawyer is basically trying to unpick this..and failing miserably
Here’s a fantasy presentation of the first order! Vennells will want her CBE back next.

Spin and more spin

I am beyond words, clap trap.
Vennells is hell-bound.😂
So its all the lawyers faultPV
and paid a small fortune (with performance bonus) to perform the job she failed at.
PV trying to get out of it

At the end of the day she was the CEO so the buck stops with her. She knew what was happening
Like a slippery eel trying to wriggle off the hook……..
