In the birds of prey movie, it shows a little more of how their actual relationship was, it’s very glossed over but it does show that Joker used Harley to benefit himself. In the comics, Joker has done very awful things to Harley, like once he poisoned her pet hyenas and then basically made her kill them or die from the hyenas. This is a quote from one of her origin stories: “Unfortunately, theirs was a classic love/hate relationship: Harley loved her “puddin”…But he hated how she cramped his style. So he fired her off in a missile, which was certainly not the first time he shot her.”
He's not anything like what the real Joker would be like. He's good for the cute little story line they are pushing here,but a criminally insane psychopath like the Joker would be exactly like Heath Ledgers portrayal. A psychopathic serial killer doesn't want or need a girlfriend. If he did want a woman he would take her. Someone like that doesn't have the capacity to love.
